Okay, I know I'm slow and behind thread. (Sheesh, I come back in the afternoon and feel like the fat kid in a formation run.) But going back and catching up I noticed someone had called Ash a rabid xenophobe. First of all, she's my girl, so I have to defend her. More importantly to this thread, Ash and Kai Kai's ME3 fates are irrevocably tied to each other. (To those of you who used to be on the old forums yes I'm copying this from an old post of mine) Ehem....
"Ash is a racist." Saw that one coming.
Point one: " Ash doesn't want aliens in the vital parts of the ship."
Counterpoint: Would you like Russians at NORAD? Perchance North Koreans hanging out on the Ronald Reagan? It's a security issue. She's a marine. It's a logical concern.
Point two: "The bear comment."
Counterpoint: I know, human syntax is hard to get a hold of but it's pretty obvious she was voicing her worries that the council will sic humanity on the bear. She WASN'T saying, "Hey Shep, let's send the aliens to their doom."
Point three: "Sometimes she's the one to put (spoiler) down."
Counterpoint: You ordered her to be ready to do that and we all know their health goes back up to half or more as soon as they hit the ground. So you don't want your people following your orders?
Besides, she's concerned for her commander/boyfriend.
Point four: "I can't tell the animals from the aliens."
Counterpoint: Yeah, let me be the first to admit if I was wondering around and ran into a big floating jellyfish, I'd probably think he was an escapee from a local aquarium exhibit. I guess I'm racist now.
I had a listen to the Galaxy news in Tuchunka and they were honoring Ash for her sacrifice on Virmire. They twisted that and said that she had said...when it comes down to it we're all just animals.
Anyhow I liked Ash...the only reason she didn't make it was because I'm crazy for Kai Kai. I hated the fact that they had to break up the threesome friendship between Ash/Kaidan/Shep.
I liked Ash as well, and can you realy blame her for being a little anti-alien? Her grandfather was a high ranking military man (general or admiral) in the first-contact war, who chose to surrender to save his troops. This resulted in humanity being a tad ashamed of Mister Williams, casting a shadow over the career of his entire family, includig the ones that came later.
Shep: "All I could find on you was a long list of crappy assignments."
Ash: "There's a reason for those crappy assignments."
I reckon I'd be a tad resenful of aliens in her shoes.
