Gameplay trumps lore, especially when it's something so trivial.

I cant understand the dislike for this new feature. In ME1, if youre rifle overheated it was about a 5 second wait until it could fire again. Now, it takes less than a second to slap in a new heat sink and your back firing at the enemy. And to those that say they run out, youre not paying attention to where they drop. Nearly every enemy drops one when they die, so it is really hard to run out of ammo. I actually find that this feature makes combat flow a lot better, but that might be just me
It's a perceived break in the lore that is supposedly geared toward attracting shooter fans. The first part I don't care about, but if you've been to any of the romance threads, you know that the second is rather unpleasant.

I dislike it immensely. Especially since I'm the only being in the galaxy operating with heat sink limitations. Neither my squadmates or enemies have to deal with it.

If they changed it in 3 where you had to reload but they let you have infinite heat sinks, then it wouldnt bother people that much i would think.

Have you played on Insanity ever, say this when you run out of ammo & Harbinger decides to post up on the other side of your cover with a bunch of other collectors scoping in on your head.

You pick up 1 heatsink, you do not get an extra clip for the Heavy Pistol. You get 5 rounds. You also get 1 and a half extra clips for the SMG. (Of course, if picking up heatsinks was 1:1, everything in the game would have to drop them.)
Ignoring that, there should be 1 ammo pool (say 100% carrying capacity) and your guns chew through it at say 5% per clip. Any clip you pick up can be used as ammo for any of your guns after all.
Finally, if you pop out a heatsink, the "ammo" capacity of that should be lost. But then, when did you ever see a game where that happens.
And I'm a fan of heatsinks and having to reload.

Except that they don't work like heatsinks at all. They work like bullets.
Hence why ejecting your "heatsink" halfway through a clip doesn't make
you use your whole clip... as well as waiting three hours doesn't give
you even one more shot.
Also: If these heat-sinks are universal, why is my heavy pistol empty and my SMG still has 500 rounds?

Yes they do. You've never seen an enemy release a heatsink?

But they never run out of heatsinks, is the problem.

It's more of a break in lore to fix a break in gameplay. The gun mechanics weren't balanced at the end of the game (especially if you gave certain party members certain guns).
Thermal clips didn't fix anything for squad members.

This was my other problem with it. Heat sinks are 'universal' yet all my weapons don't draw from the same pool of available sinks.
Also, why couldn't I reuse sinks when they cooled down? Your weapon should never be rendered unable to fire just because you don't have a new sink. If you didn't fire your gun for a bit, the sink should have cooled down.
If they wanted an ammo system they should have just made it an ammo system. The heat sink idea was very poorly implemented.

It might as well be bullets, they just wantd to call it thermal clips, it still breaks lor though since games are considered canon and it's not in the first game or any of the books for that matter.

I think they were talking about the fact that enemies and squad mates can't run out of ammo.
