My problem was that I was a rogue on the way to the break in at the estate the first time when Zevran's encounter came up. Playing with two rogues isn't ideal so after dealing with the Crows and getting to the estate I just left and reformed my party. This broke the quest and so I had to do the ambush with Zevran.

Aw I just can't get myself to kill poor Zevran. (Or any of the other possible party members...) He's like some stray animal you just have to pick up because it has such a sad story. It might be dirty, smell and have diseases, but once you look into their eyes... you just can't resist. And I think he's cute. I love his personality. Yes, I know, but everyone who got him to "love" might know what I mean :P (Well, one thing I didn't like... that earring from him, or better him telling me how he got it... *shudder*. That's not a present a girl likes)

By the way, has anyone else had trigger problems with having as many relationships as possible in one game? (Had to break up with Zevran twice, with Leliana twice too and in the end she still thought we had a relationship going and I left her to marry Alistair and become queen (though she didn't mind me kisisng Alistair when she was in group, so definitely nothing going on anymore))

My first play through as a "good guy" i let him live and only killed him when he turned on me later in the game. Playing with my "bad guy" i slit his throat after he tried to ambush me.

would've been nice if there had been an option to hire him yourself to either kill Howe or whoever -or- as an information gatherer. alas, no.

I would like to further confirm that Zevran did not backstab me when his old friend came to attack me. This is because his approval was very high.

I got a kick out of seeing a convo with Morrigan n Zev with Morrigan (I forget how this is worded but basically) talking about Allister being King n the one that puts him on the throne needing "protection" lol. Seems Morrigan doesn't mind Zev hitting on the male PC but def has a hard time with Lel doin it.

You can get Zev to a 100% friends n not have him hitting on you. You've just got to becareful on how you talk to him but he's a blast to have in your party. I remember when we were in Denerim killin the darkspawn in the beginning of the city n I heard Zev say "Should we compete for points." I busted out laughing thinking damn why couldn't we lol.

On my first playthrough I romanced Morrigan but was still very nice to Zev, not exactly romantic nice but buddy buddy nice anyway. Imagine my surprise when Morrigan confronted me at one point and told me I had to choose between her and Zev! I didn't think I'd even been romancing him!

Anyway I chose Morrigan and told Zev we were just going to be friends, which dropped his approval by 10. He still fought the crows with me though, and was all buddy buddy at the end of the game.

Thankfully I've never lost Zevran to the Crows. He's my favourite character, but I'm always quite high with all of my companions which only poses a problem when I'm trying to romance someone specific. I really wish they didn't force the character to constantly make you choose. It's a game! Why can't we have a little bit of something on the side or be in love with two people? Ah, oh well. Zevran is a great character, don't kill him, he's cool.

I could never kill Zevran. He grows on me every time. And he's hilarious, which is great. My first playthrough I ended up halfway romancing him but dumping him for Morrigan and his break up dialog just broke my damn heart. "I am many things, a killer, a thief, a lover...but I am not a cheat." I ended up giving him a large amount of gifts after that, and at the end of the game he traveled with me after Morrigan goes and has her crazy baby and abandons me. Seems my char ended up with him after all, the sly devil.

Also, all his Loghain related dialog is hilarious. He's worth keeping alive just for that. "I pick Zevran as my champion." "Does no one else see the irony in this?"

when loghain is in your party, the banter:

Z: Do you remember me?

L: You look vaguely familiar.

Z: You hired me to kill the Grey Warden

L: Ah, yes. Now I remember.

Z: I just wanted to tell you that I failed.

L:...Thank you for informing me.

classic. Just classic.

Took him with me on my first playthrough. He betrayed me near the end.

My second playthrough I slit his throat. Nobody ****s with my mage.

For my third playthrough I'll probably make him a regular partymember. Two bisexual suave rogues in one party. Backstabbing through the male back door. Hee hee!

I was dead-set on killing him (or at least getting him locked up somewhere, which sadly isn't possible) because it is really stupid to let an assassin whose mark you are not only live, but travel with you. And his way of going from "YOU DIE NOW!" to "Huh? I'm alive? Hey hottie, wanna f*ck?" in one solid whack of a sword to the head does not exactly help make him look more trustworthy.

Then I found I couldn't do it. Well, I did it the first time but it didn't sit well with me, so I reloaded. Maybe it's because killing a bound and beaten person in cold blood hardly ever feels "good" (and it shouldn't), maybe it's because I'm too bleeding-heart and like to give people a chance unless certain lines are crossed. And I admit I was curious to see what he was like and wanted to give all companions a chance in my first playthrough. So I spared him. He'll never be among my favourites, but he does have his moments. And when Taliesen ambushed me and Zevran showed up out of nowhere to join the battle, I was a tad moved. He didn't have to help. He could just have let me kill the assassins without risking himself. But that he was there showed that he is capable of loyalty. I asked him to stick around afterwards, which he agreed to and didn't seem unhappy about at all. So that was a much better resolution than I was expecting when I first let him join.

Maybe I'll give him the rogue spot in my away team during a future playthrough. His total lack of lockpicking skill is a real pain though, and starting with an abysmally low Cunning score doesn't help.

I spared him, and barely used him until I messed up romancing leliana and he took my side killing the crows. After I persuaded him to stay on as a follower for the treasure, I brought him along often. The conversations with him and Oghren/Wynne beat out all the others. I told him politely I wasn't into guys without offending him, and he tagged along at the game ending when I went to look for Morrigan.

i killed him on my current game. after all, he would have done to me if i lost that battle. as i play the game, i am beginning to feel that this is an unforgiving world. "do unto others what others are doing unto you."

slitting his throat is a "mild" option. i wish there had been more options, like "gouge his eyes, cut his tongue, or decapitate him". after all, this is a violent, dark fantasy epic. should be no-holds barred. ;)

I think people just have no idea that it is possible to change certain outcomes of the game. When Zevran backstabs (pun intended) you in the first game, you then automatically assume he will backstab you in all games, so you kill him off, missing out on some outcomes.

If the game were to somehow give some hint that it is possible to make Zevran not backstab you in the encounter with Taliesan, people would have worked to make it happen. But because it's not obvious, most people than rage-kill Zevran.

But that's what makes the game great. It's unpredictable, and when something unexpected happens, you are pleasantly surprised.

I was going to, but then I couldn't kill a wounded, beaten Zevran. So I took him along, dumped him at camp (what rotten skills that elf has, really, who started him with such terrible attributes and no lock-picking skills, I wonder?), but then he grew on my PC. So she took him along, and things developed.

It was very moving hearing him respond to Taliesan's offer with "No. That will never happen!"

Meaning he would never leave my PC, let alone killing her off.

I wish there was a way to start him out with better stats and skills, though. I'll keep my eye on the modding community, maybe those clever people will come up with a solution.
