Like I thought, I must have let him get killed..so there's no hope. My last save with Jowen is after the conversations, the one before that is 23 hrs of gameplay ago..so it's too late for the mage/lyrium dialogue..too bad there wasn't some story line about Erwin/Irving and him possibly being needed in the future...If I'd had a clue, I would have protected him.

Let's see...can you talk to Jowan/Isolde/Teagan and see if "Isn't there another option?" pops up anywhere in dialogue? Like I said, never gone down that route...Bioware may have left in a back-up option somewhere.
At the Mage Tower, if the circle has not been dissolved, and Irving's dead, then a Senior Enchanter should be on the way...maybe he's there by the next visit? No idea. Return there once and see if the situation has changed.
