Prepare to have minds blown.

Millions of years ago, an alien race ruled the galaxy. Being an incredibly advanced race and controlling the whole galaxy's collection of habitable worlds, they were quickly running out of unused space in the galaxy. Soon, they began scouting other galaxies, but realized that finding other galaxies with garden worlds was impossible. They came to the realization that soon, not only would they run out of resources to support their own species, but doom the chance of new life forming for the rest of time, in their galaxy, and possibly the whole universe. They soon new what must be done to prevent themselves from burning out the galaxy. They sacrificed themselves to turn into the "Reapers", and built the relays to keep growing species from expanding outside of their set place in the galaxy. They would then retreat out of the galaxy and return when new species were at the height of society, killing them all and stopping them from making the mistakes the Reapers almost did.

Shepard will have to choose whether to continue the cycle, or risk dooming the universe to lifelessness.

Tali- BOOM starting with a controversial one. I don't know if there is a character that gets more nerd love than Tali, but its for a good reason; she's the most developed character in ME2. Her backstory is at once the most personal and also the most insightful into the ME universe. It tackles father/daughter relationships, politics of a civilization, the importance of names and heritage, betrayal. I could go on. The point is, her story, even if not her physical body, is coming back.

Agreed; character involvement I think is less important than her backstory. From my own experience, I didn't recruit her on one playthrough, and she died on my second. Despite this, I think her story and the quarian/geth plight in general will be central to ME3. If you didn't recruit her, or she didn't die, she will likely appear in ME3 somehow. People like the quarians, so if she isn't available, another quarian will be. Being able to recruit Veetor would be interesting.

Legion: If not Legion, a different geth will likely appear in ME3. All geth are connected to the network, and the heretical vs true geth conflict is a huge plot development. If Legion survives, he will likely remain on the team. If Legion dies, another geth will still be Legion because "we are all Geth." If he is sent off to Cerberus, and not recruited for the SM, he will likely make an appearance in ME3 that way too. Legion-lover or not, given the adaptability of his character, he will be back in ME3.

Garrus: although Bioware set it up so his recruitment was necessary to ME2, if he survives ME2, I have a feeling he will be sidelined in ME3. Or maybe not--he is one of Shepard's most dedicated squad members, and wanted to bring Saren and the Reapers to justice from the beginning. I am least sure about Garrus' role in ME3--he died on one of my playthroughs, so surely that will have reprecussions if I import that save file. If Bioware brought him back for ME2, there's a possibility he will be a squadmate in ME3, and he has further room for development growth, especially after his personality change in ME2.

Mordin: has a fan base, but as an older salarian, he probably won't survive long (being over 40 is rare anyway). I sadly think we will lose him in ME3, as he was one of the most memorable members in ME2. Or maybe he will stay on the ship if he survives ME2, but only as a crew member, not a squad member. Let's look for his nephew, who Mordin mentioned once or twice.

Grunt: I imagine if he survived, gamers can likely choose him to accompany them in ME3, or recruit Wrex/Wreav. If Wrex/Wreav is recruited, Grunt will likely go back to Tuchanka. Or if he wasn't opened in ME2, gamers can in ME3. A krogan will likely appear in ME3, considering all the talk regarding the krogans and genophage and tensions in the past two games. I have a feeling Wrex/Wreav can be recruited again in ME3, perhaps as an ambassador for the krogans; Clan Urdnot will probably be the strongest of the Krogan clans in ME3.

Bioware sidelined the ME1 characters for a reason: so they could return in ME3; I think this sets up a precedent for these characters to return as squadmates. Although people might be sad if Tali, Garrus, or other people from the ME2 squad don't make it, they will likely be sidelined for the return of ME1 characters. Or dead.

People wondering about the romances in ME2: it's clear that the ME1 romances are more important, even just stated from previous interviews, but this doesn't mean ME2 romances were worthless, even if they are secondary to ME1 romances. But there will probably be more romance options in ME3. I think the romance option will have more ramifications than fans can imagine.

Bioware will face criticism from everybody depending on which characters are sidelined, die, or created (and there is only so much room for character development with the main plot and subplots) in ME3.

But if anything, it tells Bioware that they can make some truly wonderful, memorable characters.

well if i can assume ME3 will be a representation of what ME2 was to ME1 then id have to say ME3 will probably have nothing to do with ME1 and ME2s big choices like with the rachni queen or the collectors base, but i do see bioware putting niftu cal back in ME3. i also see bioware adding 42 more layers of poop to enemy defenses so the combat can be more like every other third person shooter instead of using BIOTICS and TECHS which should be the entire idea behind MEs combat, biotics and tech abilities. i also see bioware adding 9-47 new squadmates, for no real reason whatsoever. i can picture bioware also adding weapons that dont serve a purpose. maybe theyll have heavy, heavier, and heavyerester weapons in ME3.

and ill still buy it.

my one hope is that they turn biotics and tech abilities into abilities that turn heads. i want my heavy weapons to be my abilites. i want to take out collosi with biotics not a stupid heavy weapon that shoots nuke grenade. make singularity into the "nuke grenade." i want to use biotics to their full ptential, not just a throw here and a lift there. i want to use 1000 newtons of force to crush a mans skull. i want to use 1000 newtons of force to jump over large dog houses. dont limit my biotics to "throw you here" or "pick you up there" abilities. doesnt that make sense to you guys? make the abilities better in ME3. thats all bioware has to do.

Wouldnt it be funny if at the end of ME3 you wake up on Eden Prime after the beacon went off only to find all 3 games were a dream? Lol

If this happens I will smash my Xbox and all 3 games. And mail it to Bioware.

EDIT: Well, no, I wouldn't do that, and I know Bioware wouldn't have a cop-out ending like that.  I would probably play the game again, but be disappointed in the ending.

Maybe some people like the "it's all a dream endings," I don't know.

Actually, there's a pretty good explaination for this. Remember Miranda's log, they went from Celluar reconstruction, to bio-synthetic fusion. Now, there's an ME novel that'll be released this month, Retribution, where TIM starts experimenting with fusing human with REAPER-TECH. Suddenly Miranda's remark makes me wonder if there's more than one reason Shepard's eyes glow red if you're a Renegade. It would also explain Shepard's abilities regardless of class, these are experimental/prototype upgrades being used. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Shepard is immune to Indoctrination in ME3.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a new plot twist. The new Normandy was also made from salvaged pieces of Sovereign. It’s plausible that they were able to remake Shepard with powerful Reaper technology, and the horrible tests Cerberus did in did in ME1 improved their techniques and made it possible.
