Would i have problems running mass effect 2 CE ordered from USA in europe on the PC?

On the same note; I managed to pay for ME2 on a UK website while in Tokyo on a Japanese laptop, and once the game is installed and run for the first time a check is performed online which appears in Japanese. Might this contribute to the problem I am having, where the game does not load at all but instead it "encounters a problem and needs to close" when in full screen?
At the moment I am trying to use the EA applications to fix it (including downloading the activation file for Adobe AIR separately) but nothing happens despite the process of EACoreServer appearing in the Task Manager for a good 10 seconds or so. My laptop's specs are between minimum and recommend for ME2, and I've updated everything I can including Microsoft .NET Framework 4 for Windows 7.
