Eww, for some reason, what you said just there reminded me of Alien Resurrection when I saw it at the cinema and there was some ladies sat behind and when the Newborn made its first appearance they were all like "awwww how cute" whilst I was thinking "Nooooooooo its wrong!" because I'd read Joss Whedon's original script where the description for the Newborn was anything BUT cute. I just had to cringe everytime it was on the screen from that point on.

As for the OP, I know your trying to be funny but, way I see it, stupid reaper baby shot at me first and sucked up some of one of my friends colony friends, so it has to die for the good of humankind!

Machines don't have babies, and no soul either. Once you start projecting your own human misconception of human life on a machine, or a hybrid, you are basically playing god. It was an abomination of a machine that melted human biomass to form itself. Twas no life, was a machine.



But this topic is hilarious (yeah, i got it was a joke ,p) By the same standard you would have to have a moral crisis for every geth you killed. Or for every toaster you threw in the trash in your life. Machines ain't living things. ^^



And Reapers, all reapers have lost their right to exist already by enslaving the proteans in my book. And of course, i have a hard time sympathizing with a human looking reaper.. that wants to kill me (though technically we shot first ;p)

So whether something (I'm talking machines, not that particular Reaper) is made of flesh or metal decides if it has a soul? I'd say that if a being is sapient, it's kind of irellevant what its composing materials are.

Throughout the game, by and large, players' Shepards have been allowed to make their own decisions. Whether the lives of civilians were worth saving, whether to kill the batarians, blah blah blah. We get to set the moral path for Commander Shepard.

But suddenly this changes at the end of the game. We are shepherded into killing a baby. This is outrageous and morally repugnant in the extreme. It is simply disgusting that we be forced to destroy an infant to progress the game. And to those who suggest is it necessary because it is a Reaper baby, this is a sickeningly intolerant view. Justifying the death of any child or childlike being based on its origin is simply racist.

I am disappointed at BioWare's decision to push their neo-fascist views on us through Mass Effect 2 and hope that the next instalment of the game does not have us committing even more disturbing acts of infanticide. I for one did not play Mass Effect to role play a baby-murdering psychopath.

Well thats a very muddy ground to thread. Geth and Reapers, They are machines, i follow the same ideology as in BSG - Toasters don't have rights when they tried to kill me. Theres 2 Geth groups, Legion and Heretics - to me Legion is just the lesser evil. All self-replication machines are a danger to the galaxy, if we'd let the Geth go unchecked, we would basically create our very own self-engineered reapers in 50k+ years. Also since the Reapers are just another form of Replicators there is little technical difference between geth and reapers. Safe for the size and technology.



To establish what you think of souls, you have to ask yourself just 1 question, would give a Cloned human the same rights as an original human? Clones are no different from synthetic life.

No... he wrote the initial treatment and original script, from what is in that and what was in the film it is obvious someone did a bit of re-writing. Trust me, Joss's script was WAY better IMHO, there was a fair few same sequences but some additional ones as well and granted he probably did have too many people in the 'crew' but it was much better and as I said, the way he described the Newborn was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than that stupid babyfaced *rants a load of expletives of his opinion of the newborn* yeah... all that.

As there is no proof of existance of souls, in humans or anywhere else, i find the argument that "it's only a machine" and "it has no soul" to be both horribly offencive, outragously bigoted, and incredibly shortsighted (not to mention religiously fanatical).

It can be a joke, it might be honest outrage, it might be a start of an interesting conversation about the nature of life, sentience and human rights applied to beings not genetically human, or all of the above.
