The problem is that a sapient machine (say... Legion) has fears, feelings, and whatnot. It is only different from you in the sense that it resides in a metal body, but it is as much a person as you or me. Us being made of cells doesn't automatically make us superior.ere5234 wrote...
You know, that is a good counter. But i meant clones and reapers with that. Geth and AI i am simply disliking and if they are not trying to kill me, i would allow them to be around.. more or less. But legal rights, thats a different matter. Certainly at no point would killing a machine be a crime, unless someone owns it (in which case what it does is the responsibility of the owner ;p). The Geth and Reapers have already voided their right to exist by killing any organic life at all, whatever the reason. (to bring it back to ME2 ;p)
Legion as a single unit is sapient and has a right to exist, but the Geth as a whole are a single mind. A single massive machine mind. In a sense that is the worst form of dictatorship for the individual. Should Geth be allowed to exist? Normally yes, but only on the condition that they allow the Quarians back on their homeworld no questions asked. But we both know that won't happen (at least in reality) The Quarians would never let Geth exist in close proximity. Also, if this *were* reality the Quarians would be legally responsible for all damage caused by the geth, which includes the Heretics. And *all* geth would complacent to every single death caused by a geth - which includes the attacks on freighters and ships that not only the heretics did but also the "legion" geth. Since they are one mind, every killed organic life is the crime of ALL geth.

And I would support such a law, but dogs aren't sapient.
Twas a bad example, for lack of a better one ;p. But dogs are about the closest it will get. I wouldn't support such a law by the way. A law won't change public opinion and if you think racism is bad now, wait till such a law passes. Maybe only an Alien Contact could change that, but chances for that are Nill.
Such a law would never pass of course because Human Rights Organization would rightfully complain that (sensible) Human rights should always rank above dog rights. Dogs and Cats (generally pets) are already an exception because the law does not handle them as mere "wild animals" - But as the property of an owner. In a sense the Geth are the Quarians pets ;p

Also, Quarians got what they deserved, imo.

Throughout the game, by and large, players' Shepards have been allowed to make their own decisions. Whether the lives of civilians were worth saving, whether to kill the batarians, blah blah blah. We get to set the moral path for Commander Shepard.
But suddenly this changes at the end of the game. We are shepherded into killing a baby. This is outrageous and morally repugnant in the extreme. It is simply disgusting that we be forced to destroy an infant to progress the game. And to those who suggest is it necessary because it is a Reaper baby, this is a sickeningly intolerant view. Justifying the death of any child or childlike being based on its origin is simply racist.
I am disappointed at BioWare's decision to push their neo-fascist views on us through Mass Effect 2 and hope that the next instalment of the game does not have us committing even more disturbing acts of infanticide. I for one did not play Mass Effect to role play a baby-murdering psychopath.
You're absolutely right. In the first game we were forced to kill a cute little squid. Now we're being forced to kill terminator-babies. I bet the end boss in ME3 will be a metal bunny rabbit.
Sickening.

Anyways, since we're derailing into srs bzns;
A clone is no different from naturally occurring life (aside from current issues with telomeres causing cells to think they're still old, and not brand new). Cloning, in fact, exists in nature. An identical twin is a naturally occurring clone, being possessed of the exact same genetic makeup as it's sibling.

And we look forward to doing it again and again and again and again.....
Then reliving it in ME3. Ah, the days we killed the baby reaper. Oh, Kaiden my love, you should have been there with me for that...
