Simple questinon, can I simply not kill the thorian to beat that quest? Or is the thorians death garanteed?

there was a lot of speculation about this when ME first came out, but much experimention, datamining, pestering BioWare employees and reading tea leafs failed to provide any answers and the general consensus was that it's just a glitch

It would have been funny seeing the Turian Councilor's reaction to the living Thorian, if capturing it would have been possible. Too bad the door to the next node doesn't open unless the current one is dead.
Though considering the amount of things cut and/or modified in the final game, and how small the space between those markers is, it could be possible that at one point in the development you could have taken it alive. Right?

I think those are just remnents from the puzzle with the the pressures of the door. The thing you had to do to get the Geth ship off the tower. The markers are in the same place and they usually go away mid-way through the fight.Dethateer wrote...

there was speculation you could just damage the thorian enough to have it conceed, but (apparently) the writers couldnt be bothered finishing that arc of the story so they just let you kill it instead.. it would have been a huge paragon boost had you left it alive and come to a compromise, don't know why they gave up.. would have been some useful information if you saved it, maybe it was too difficult to write into the story.. guess we'll never know

I don't think it was killed. We only killed a part of it, like an arm basically. It's going to be mad at us in ME3!

When i saw those markers, my first thought was "YES!!! I dont have to kill it!" but then when i could'nt get any further till i destroyed he node i was dissapointed and upset. i mean what right do we have to wipe out an ancient sentient plant life-form? it could have been a huge help against the reapers!
