How was it "pretty clear"?  Where is there any suggestion he's out in dark space besides pure conjecture?  Also, the Reapers are supposed to be hibernating.  What woke them up?  If they aren't hibernating, then why leave Sovereign behind?  If his entire job is to wake up periodically and assess the state of the galaxy, it's useless if the Reapers all wake up and check anyway.  If Harbinger is keeping tabs on the galaxy in dark space with the Collectors, why leave a Reaper behind at all?  Why not engineer the Collectors to be caretakers of the Citadel, or have them be a sleeper race that integrates into galactic society, secures a Council seat and then activates the beacon?

I suspect Harbinger woke up during the Battle of the Citadel, either because Sovereign alerted him directly ("I'm opening the Citadel, get everyone ready") or because Sovereign's destruction sent some sort of signal to him.

That would really ring of the Babylon 5 plot. The Reapers as Shadows and the beings of light as Vorlons. It would be a bit deus ex machina though to all of a sudden bring in another ancient race of super powerful beings that now save the galaxy...

I was thinking the same thing.  Shepherd is going to need SERIOUS help WAY beyond Cerberus, the Alliance etc - ONE Reaper almost defeated everything the Alliance could throw at it.   We see probably a hundred thousand or more at the end of ME2.  A powerful yet unknown ally must be found in ME3.

I really really really hope this isn't a Deus Ex Machina. I absolutely hated when the undead stormed Minas Tirith in LotR: RotK. Really it was the only sour point in the entire movie.

I just hope this remains a myth... or is a plot point in another ME game that is outside of Shepard's trilogy.

I'm tired of them dropping these baby bombshells in the planet descriptions and then never revisiting them...

First these beings of light, then you've got the Leviathan of Dis, planetary evidence of whole extinct races wiped out by the Reapers, craters left by massive ship weapons that were actually recovered, Jupiter brains, great mysterious shapes in the clouds that disappear when you get close...

I mean, are these things ever going to turn out to mean something? Cuz they sure make you interested in them.

I bet they will be several mission that Shepard and Co. must go to in order to build the anti-Reaper army (besides those you have already recruited... Geth, Rachni, Quarians, Krogan and council races).  Maybe you might have to broker peace between the Geth and Quarians... but I would guess it will be about these little tidbits.

Yeah, but cool little things like this in the planet descriptions are so easy to miss it almost makes it doubtful they'll follow up on it.

You and me would go, "Finally! They're delving more deeply into this!" but other people would go, "What the hell are they talking about, 'beings of light'? Where the heck did this come from?"

I guess my message never posted, and pardon the double post if it did, but...

Excuse me if this has already been mentioned, but isn't it possible that the "Beings of Light" are the Hanar? The Hanar use bioluminescence to talk and there still is plenty of mystery around who they are and who the Enkindlers are. It is possible that the Enkindlers aren't just the Protheans, but maybe something more. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Hanar are a key part of the galactic fight.

In addition to resurrecting a thread from over a year ago, you've gone and proposed that the Hanar are the saviors of the galaxy....

I think I need to lie down...

Huh?  I don't really see any mystery about it...  they tell us flat out that the Protheans were the Enkindlers.  Even the Hanar believe that, as they protested at a Prothean dig site (they believed that the Enkindler's artifacts should not be disturbed).  There could always be a plot twist no one expects, but there's not really an active mystery about it.

Though I do wonder if their beliefs about the Protheans are hinting at something bigger.  They worship the Protheans because the Protheans helped them develop early civilization.  Remember that Prothean artifact on Eletania in ME1?  The Protheans were at the very least watching humanity's ancestors as well.  Though as some have pointed out, the description given of one of the machines sounds disturbingly like an Oculus.  So was it the Protheans... or the Collectors?  <Mordin>  Implications unpleasant.  </Mordin>

Oh please, no need to get butthurt, its your own fault for doing a no-no in the first place. There are plenty of fun things to do here, one just happens to be giving people a hard time.

Exactly.  There are two endings I wouldn't like for ME 3.  One being a random GOD LIKE force that saves the Galaxy or another being that to defeat the Reapers, everyone has to become a primitivst and destroy the Relays, Citadel, etc.  Both would make me pretty unhappy as those endings have been done to death.

It terrifies me how you predicted the ending(s). Terrifies. At least we still have ME1 to enjoy.

To be fair given the scope of the universe, everything we do is largely irrelevant to the overall picture. A insignificant galaxy among a potentially infinite number of other galaxies.

But then this is a story about us, would be nice if the Reapers were tied into that grander scheme, but we're stuck with narrow-minded ghost child.

(Didn't notice that this was a necro, the prediction made here was pretty accurate though. Heh.)
