It's very possible that the "Beings of Light" the Volus refers to are in fact others of the same race as the Catalyst but have alternate views compared to the Catalyst. The only way to fix the ending would be to have a DLC which introduces another Being of Light lets call it [Inhibitor] which could join with Shepard. This would be where all your choices come into play as Inhibitor will merge with you or perhaps view Shepard's mind and would decide if Shepard's idea for a better future for Organic Co-existence is better then the current course of action. Inhibitor would aid Shepard on the Citadel and Inhibitor would replace the Catalyst which would allow Inhibitor to give Shepard new choices on how to handle the Reapers.

One Paragon option would be to have the Reapers return to Dark Space and watch over and monitor the Galaxy and only intervene when a Synthetic force becomes powerful enough to threaten the Galaxy in a manner the current Reapers are trying to prevent.

Another Paragon option could be to have the Reapers destroy themselves and let Organics and so on decide for themselves and what happens happens regardless if organics do truly get destroyed by synthetic life.

A Renegade option would be for the Reapers to return to Dark Space and wait for the next Cycle to continue their method. Or perhaps extend the methods cycle to 100,000 years instead. Because who cares whats happens if you are dead by the next cycle anyway right?

Another Possible option could be to destroy all current Synthetic life and leave the Mass Relays as well as the Citadel intact. This could be another Renegade option.

I remember seeing Klencory on my Mass Effect play through prepping for ME3, I figured that the "beings of light" were some kind of VI or something referring to the Reapers and stuff... but maybe that's just me.

In other news, holy crap that was a crazy prediction... worse that it came true... ;_;

I really hope bioware was not planning these ****ty endings just so they could make a boatload off a dlc to fix it. But in our modern capatilistic pig world, I would not be surprised.

No no NO NO NOOOOOOOOOO.

Seriously.  You do not fix a bad plot point by adding in new plot points just as bad.

That's like trying to dig your way out of a hole.

Cut out the Catalyst and Shepard dies beside Anderson, while the Curicble fires.  No relay explosion.  Just dead Reapers.  That is a abrupt but satisfying ending.

IF the Catalyst must be kept for some reason.  Then minimize his role as much as possible and just let us tell him to shove it.

Then blow up the Reapers.

DO NOT ADD MORE GLOWING CHILDREN.

Holy crap, fans had already guessed and dismissed the endings we were given two years before the game came out. So much for Bioware reading the forums (at least in advance).

Exactly.  There are two endings I wouldn't like for ME 3.  One being a random GOD LIKE force that saves the Galaxy or another being that to defeat the Reapers, everyone has to become a primitivst and destroy the Relays, Citadel, etc.  Both would make me pretty unhappy as those endings have been done to death.

This guy's worst fears have materialized! Now it's a TWO year old ressurection!

Only the Star Child has the power to perform this kind of miracle.

What kind of magic is that? He just predicted it to a letter? Un-****ing-believable!

By the way, what does this guy think about financial crisis? About global politics? May be we should fire all those analysts and hire him?

But wait... What if this was a part of plot that was scrapped back in ME1?

So many speculations... I guess we can only hope that, in few months or a year, we'll finally know the real truth.

That would really ring of the Babylon 5 plot. The Reapers as Shadows and the beings of light as Vorlons. It would be a bit deus ex machina though to all of a sudden bring in another ancient race of super powerful beings that now save the galaxy...

Well this certainly is crazy and somewhat depressing.

I was trying to work within the confines of what already exist in the game. This way it wouldn't effect what's already happened but instead add upon it. As much as I disliked the ending I don't know if I could feel truely satisfied if they just replaced the ending with a new one that was never intended. The biggest issue with a new ending is the fact that they are most likely already planning the next game and can't change it much due to it being a huge waste of resources to remake what's already started for the next game.

Does anyone else think that BioWare sort of added 'insult to injury" with the way this potential plot was dropped and how the Keepler Verge pops up in Mass Effect 3 right after you investigate Sanctuary?! <_<

The Codex Entry for Klencory in ME3 has some new text added to it as well.

Klencory is a rock and ice planet with an atmosphere composed of chlorine and argon. The frozen surface is mainly composed of potassium with deposits of iron.

Klencory is famously claimed by the eccentric volus billionaire Kumun Shol. His once-ridiculed visions of "beings of light" protecting organic life from synthetic "machine devils" don't seem quite so far-fetched now. His private army of mercenaries are well-established on the planet, waiting for husks to come knocking in on their door. In all likelihood, they will be obliterated by the molten metal of a Reaper orbital bombardment, on its way to somewhere important

So, it is pretty clear that Bioware had intended this ending from the beginning? Is that what we're supposed to take away from this? That makes me even more disappointed in the ending than before. Kind of makes the "YOU MAKE LOTS CHOICE" system more pointless than previously recently established, if this is what they'd intended since the first game released. So much for a sense of agency on our playthroughs. <_<
