That 'guy' is actually an mutuated woman. As a matter of fact, she is called the Broodmother. Search and you'll find strategies for it on the Internet.

Basically, kill from range. DO NOT engage in melee otherwise she'll pick up and squeeze the life out of anyone who gets too close. Let your PC keep melee weapons handy to kill the tentacles and any darkspawn that attack. Meanwhile, the rest of your party uses bows and spells from distance to take out the Boss. Takes a little while, so keep some poultices handy and heal as need be. Otherwise, pretty easy to take down.

I just focus fire on the broodmother and keep my squishy characters away from the tentacles. Watch your health and she dies fast.

Today I hit her with Storm of the Century. It took her health down to about 10-20%, killed all the tentacles, killed all the darkspawn within the middle area and killed my whole party except my AW PC in about 40 seconds. My AW then took her down with Starfang. That was just insane to cast that spell combo in such a small area, there was only a space of about 2 feet where I could stand without taking damage.

Yea, drop AoE and hold in the background.  It works really good.  Then just defend against enemies and tentacles.

Okay, firstly. The Brood Mothers Tentacles don't appear through the rocks. So put all your mages/archers on the rocks.

Focus on killing the Tentacles and Darkspawn, and ignore the Broodmother until they're all taken care of. When fighting from a distance, she uses her spit attack, which did about 40 damage to my level 15 party. Spit works a little like scattershot. It hits the original target, then splits and attacks nearby party members. So have one character get her attention, and put them on the rock in the middle, and put everyone else in the back. Trust me that even with a purely melee party, you're better switching to range when you attack the Broodmother (switch back for Darkspawn and the Tentacles of course).

The trick is to kill the adds so you take very little damage.

I read that as "...but there's this fat guy with testicles..."

You had me quite confused...

What level are you and what difficulty? I've had no trouble with her and my main character is the tank. I've tried attacking the tentacles but I've found it easier and quicker just to rush her and hack away. Just wear the best available gear and make sure Wynne is ready to heal.

And if all the advice given here doesn't help, you can try watching the video in my signature.

I don't know if killing the tentacles matters at all. I used to just ignore them and kill the boodmother, until I saw other people's videos and found out that the tentacles are worth XP, now I kill them. :P

You don't have to kill the tentacles to beat her.  It helps to get them out of the way.  They go in hiding for a bit which gives you alone time with the broodmother.

And of course more xp.

There are a few: Bloodline, Backbiter, and The Veshaille. The first is a drop in the Deep Roads, the second from Arl Howe, and the third is sold by Bodahn.

The camp merchant sells a very good axe.

If set up properly, Alistair can be the best tank in the game as well as a mage killer.

It took me a couple of tries to kill her off the first play through. My mage uses freeze and keeps the others healthy. I also try to use range attacks. That seems to work best. Good luck.

LOL!!! I am currently playing what I call the Arcane Estrogen team (Wynne SH/AW, Morrigan SS/AW, Leliana B/A, PC AW/SS). I was planning to have all three mages drop Storm Of The Century on the Broodmother just to see what would happen.

I cast it once and it killed evryone but me, even with shimmering shield I was taking over 20 damage per tick, everyone else was taking about 90. This will kill her and the darkspawn but will kill you too if you don't get the hell out of the way. Storm of the Century is soooooooo awesome.

They do say that among Brood Mothers, morbid obesity is the number one killer.

Not sure if you noticed but all three of the mages are Arcane Warriors, so they will walk in there with 100 mental / physical and 75 on all of the other resists.  To make things even worse not only is Wynne full healing, but Morrigan is as well, so both of them have the group heal and individual heals and lots of healing pots.  Will be fun to watch though.  ;)
