Help!
I preordered DAO and have been playing it a lot, always stable and fine. For some weeks I was off it but now decided it was time to play again.. but I can't! the game crashes constantly within minutes of launch.. open a door, press esc or F5, just turn.. anything can make it crash to desktop instantly.
Between now and last played nothging I can recall have changed except I bought the Ostagar DLC, same hardware and I think all same drivers. Eveything else on computer is stable and works as always, just DAo crashes...
Any particular things to look for, cache to empty or anything??
W7 64b system 2.2GHz AMD Dual, 2.5GB ram, 7800GTX graphics.
Game is 2.2a with all DLCs
Impossible to play due to constant crashes

Seems that a lot of NVIDIA video card players are having issues since RTO. I know I had issues prior due to over heating on my 8800GT. Downloading the Riva Tuner helped a lot. I upped my fan speed to 50%.

I disabled RTO but that didn't help either.
There's only two changes to my system though, RtO and a new USB gaming keyboard. Everything else in system and otehr games works fine though, only DAO is a crashing freak show right now...

Try reviewing your Application Log in Event Viewer to see of you can get some details in the errors. Start- Run, type without quotes - "eventvwr" and hit ok.

I am having the same problem. I had to install the latest patch to get RTO to run, now the game crashes constantly.

So I'm not alone then. Guess reinstalling wouldn't help if the presence of RtO is enough to ruin the game...

OK, now also tried a complete reinstall without downloading RtO and it only took me seconds into the game from save to crash back to desktop...
Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with DAO and NVidia (resent drivers).

Also in addition to latest drivers went back to older drivers... only a few secs to crash.
Went to support site but it refuses my password, ok I think, must have forgotten so use the pw recovery funtion that will mail my registered address (also used as login() and tadaaa... NOTHING, no mail is sent out so I'm sitting with a useless game and locked out from support...
This is a friggin JOKE!!!

The exception code may point to a memory access violation. You may want to test your memory. You may also have some spyware/malware, so be sure to scan for that. Your card is about 5 yrs old and you may want to try some older drivers (I know you tried some, but not sure which ones). I have been using the 185.85 driver and it works great for me. Lastly, what are the specs on your PSU? Brand, total watts, amps on the +12v and how old is it? Best of luck.

As I said above I'm already ran mem diagnostics and it passed fine, full system scan for virus etc also passed. PSU is new Corsair 650W unit.
keep in mind too that this system worked just fine just weeks ago, never a problem with DAO. Not sure why it suddenly crashes all the time even with a fresh install. The only bit of changed hardware is my new USB keyboard (Razer Tarantula).

DeIssan: I've been having the same problem - I was able to ask EA/Bioware. If they send me anything worthwhile, I'll post it here.

I too was having crash problems after updating to the latest nvidia driver 196.21 version. After 2 days of pulling my hair out I finally fixed my problem. my fix is as follows.First make sure you have a previous version of nvidia drivers to install.Download Driver Sweeper from Guru.com ,install, remove Nvidia Display Drivers from within control panel,Reboot, put in safe mode,if you don`t know how to do this continually tap F8 while computer is starting up you should have a black screen with several options listed select safe mode ,hit enter and wait until compter enters safe mode.Once in safe mode open Driver Sweeper select Nvidia .click analyse, then click clean. then click reboot when prompted .Wait until computer reboots , you should now be in normal mode.Install earlier version of nvidia drivers and reboot again. This worked like a charm for me no more crashes hopefully it will work for you as well.

Tommy,
What version of drivers did you roll back to? Is going back to 195 enough or should you go back to 191?

I rolled back to 190.62

The reason i used Driver Sweeper is that it removes leftover driver fragments from driver uninstalls

I've been getting frequent crashes too. I had been playing fine without any crashes at all, but when I redeemed the codes for shale and the blood armour (and consequently uploaded the content) I now get crashes within 15 mins; making the game unplayable.
(Note that in my case the crashes switch the laptop off - I dont even get back to the desktop)

Good general advice: defrag your hard drives. Also, check both CPU and system temps if you can. DA:O seems to run hot. At least it does for me.

I see most of you have problems playing and it crashes the game? Then please check the compatibility of your cpu, as for laptops they almost always crash for these things because a PC is no laptop and can handle more and is also more stabile, also make sure you downloaded the latest directX, and make sure you keep your virus scanner active on all time. Also with the addons you will have less difficulities using them while on vista. Even i have a 6800 GFX NVIDIA graphics card in here and can still play the game, so it has all to do with compatibility of your system, and also the amount of free disk space you got left for your RAM memory to display the graphic thouroughly. And does it still happen, then wait till they make an update to prevent the crash for those systems. Problem Solved.

What some people seems to miss is that that many of those with hughe proiblems now have previously been running without problerms for a long time, only recently have the game started crashing at alarming rates.
