What kind of problems are you having? I have a 7.1 surround system and use the windows sound manager to set it up - I don't bother with the 3rdp application at all. - works fine for me in the game. I can hear a conversation move from left to right from the 2 rear speakers, 2 side, 2 front and center when I spin around.

To low8all: Are U using SPDIF or analog?

I'm using analog. So, yes, separate cables for each pair and sub as opposed to a single SPDIF. But it's all about the D/A - A/D conversion ya. Tried this?

If I set my speaker configuration to 5.1 in windows speaker settings (windows xp, I have 5.1 speaker system), then run the me2 configuration program it detects that its set to that, I then saved settings and try running the game.
However ingame I have missing sound, or when new sound plays like people speaking, ambience background like the engine noise on the normandy and music would cut off kinda . Or when fighting I don't hear any music at all for example.
I fixed this by setting speaker configuration to stereo speakers for desktops, then re-running me2config and re-saving it. All sound or perhaps "sound channels" seems to play properly in-game now. Before it was like 2 or 3 channels active and when it tried to play more, one or more of the other channels stopped playing kinda or would get cut off.
I'd still like to get proper 5.1 sound though.

I have a center speaker, left & right speakers, 2 surround speakers and a subwoofer.

Edit:
Rebooted and installed the game into Windows 7 using the sound drivers included with the OS and the sounds seems to be working properly even with 5.1 speaker setup, no sounds are being cutoff what I can notice. So it was probably a driver issue (considering the Dell Sigmatel Stac 92xxx C-Major HD Audio drivers are from 2005 and can't be found anywhere else, that works anyway.) Also in Windows XP if I set hardware acceleration to none it would play without cutting off sound, however the sound would crack/pop and kinda stutter instead.
