Liked: Enemies w/classes. They were too few and far between in ME1

The recruitment missions, Especially Garrus and Jack.

Disliked: the paucity of weapon choices. One of my biggest beefs w/ the first game was that picking weapons was really a no brainer. there were tons of them, but once you got the specter gear there was no point in doing anything with the other stuff besides sell it. Same thing in this one. For the huge deal they make about your weapon load out, you think it might actually be a tough decision. Besides the heavy weapons i never changed a thing.

Tough to limit it to just a couple of choices.

BEST THINGS

The deeper characterization throughout the game, particularly for certain characters.

A further development of "shades of gray" dialogue choices and tough decisions.

Better combat system.

Great voice acting again.

WORST THINGS

Loading times. I don't care if it's an elevator or a loading screen. The issue is not what I look at during loading, it's how long the load takes.

Lack of greater investigation into the background and origins of the Reapers. I'd have loved to have learned more, perhaps try and investigate more Prothean history found in the Terminus systems. Some more exposition like the Vigil conversation in ME1.

That paragon and renegade choices are always the same place on the dialogue wheel. I don't want to know this, particularly with the more morally ambiguous choices in ME2, why undermine that by making it obvious in the manual that certain choices are paragon and certain choices are renegade.

Best:

1.) Combat.
2.) How engaging I thought the story was.

Best:

1. The new squadmates and interactions in general. I ended up liking the new team a whole lot, and the way Shep interacted with the environment gave a much more fleshed-out feel to the universe.

2. Garrus romance. I really need nothing else.

Worst:

1. Graphical hiccups galore. The annoying texture popping is gone, but there were a lot of damn weird moments where shadows would flicker randomly and people's body parts would phase through one another. Ick.

2. Scanning planets. I enjoyed exploring planets in a hands-on fashion, but it was slow and kind of boring.

Like Best: Everything, aside from...

Like Least: ...planet scanning (physically painful experience with a PC mouse), being unable to sell resources for credits (too much of the former, not enough of the latter), hacking/bypassing (frustrating mechanic, and breaks the flow of the missions), Shepard's armor (when tooled up to the max it's OTT on clunky), not being able to buy extra casual outfits somewhere (would be nice if this is something that DLC can add to), and not being able to NOT take the heavy weapon (all of which are huge).

The Best

1.) Hearing the bits and pieces of your accomplisments over the extranet. :) The little emails you got

2.) Being bad but still being good working for Cerberus.

The Worst

1.) So hard to find N7 missions :(

2.) I really like the upgrades... took me near the end of the game to finally figure out how they worked. That you just have to buy them

Best:
1. Characters and dialogue, especially Mordin Solus. The writing, animation and acting in this game is breathtaking.
2. All of the new gameplay features - combat, inventory and levelling. Shepard being able to shoot straight at the start of the game and no longer needing to carry around 150 guns in her trouser pockets made the game feel more immersive and believable. RPGs have truly evolved with this game.
Posted Image
Worst:
1. Liara's radical change of personality. The shy, innocent young Asari of the first game suddenly became a ruthless schemer in this one and the explanation given didn't satisfy. They went too far, none of the original Liara was left.
2. The price of the collector's edition here in the UK. 50% extra is far too much for a couple of in game items, a booklet and a "making of" DVD.

1. Characters. Unashamedly, especially Tali.

2. The lack of an inventory. I HATED how overflowing the inventory was in ME1. Good riddance.

Dislike

Paragon and Renegade points unlocking or restricting conversation options.

Just a few things I'd like to say, in response to other posters.

a) With the cooldown, you have to draw the line eventually. Spamming incinerate would be overpowered.

B) I liked the mission complete screen! Awesome music and a cool TIM background. Recap of what happened to.

c) I agree, we should be able to dance with our romance.

d) I'd like a little more dialogue after you beat the game, but it's probably best not to have too much. A little talking while cuddling with your romance option would be nice.

e)The game didn't seem to be dumbed down to me. You still need to use your powers well to survive. If you want to min/maxing, go play WoW or something.

f) I didn't mind not seeing Tali's face. If it's in ME3, the wait makes it even better.

g) The gameplay is great and better than ME1. If you don't want to be torn to shreds, use cover and don't stand out in the open asking to be shot.

Good

1) Biotic powers

2) Space exploration is quite fun now, although I imagine I'll get tired of it eventually.

Bad:

1) Shops don't restock as often as I'd like

2) MOAR ARMOUR/WEPONS

BEST:

1.) Overall, the combat system is much improved. It is much smoother and I like the ramp in difficulty. In ME1, even if you were playing on Insanity, it wasn't that hard. ME2 is much more tactical. There are a few changes that I didn't quite understand. Like why do all of your powers recharge after use instead of the individual power you used. Also, I want to change my weapon and gear when I want, not wait until I'm on my ship or reach a special locker. But these are small complaints.

2.) The overall tone of the game. Everything looked better and more realistic. It seemed more dangerous. I love how they included more about the different races and branched off into more adult territory. The characters themselves were more fleshed out and endearing. IN ME1, there were many characters I either didn't like or just didn't care about. I thought Kaiden was boring. I liked Tali and Garrus but didn't feel they were developed enough. Ashley came off mostly as a racist ****. The only character that I really cared about was Liara. In ME2, I like all the characters, though some more than others. I was sore about the lack of F/F love options but that doesn't make me not like the game. just takes away some enjoyment.

WORST:

1.) The lack of story involving your old squad members/love interest. Obviously, I'm not talking about Tali and Garrus. With Ashley/Kaiden there is very little. I understand the anger because Shepard is with Cerberus but one would assume that there would be more of a gray area, especially if you chose one of them as your LI. After seeing someone that saved your life and fought along with you and maybe even made love to you, you would think there would be a less stiff reunion. As for Liara, she did get a lot more time in the game than the characters I previously mentioned, but it still seemed a bit off. She did a lot to bring Shepard back and all he/she gets is a kiss? Most of the conversation branches are not very personal. It just seemed that it should have been....warmer.

2.) It wasn't nearly as involved as ME1. The first one seemed a lot longer. There were so many side missions and something about it seemed more personal in the story portion. Maybe it was the LI part. I don't know. If you think about the characters in ME2, there seems to be a lack of dialog between you and the team. For instance, once a character tells you about their personal mission, it closes off any new dialog options until you do the mission.

Best:

- The game, really. Overall it's a lot better executed than ME1.

Worst:

- No romances for me. That kind of killed it, especially if you - like me - have been ecstatic about the Tali romance for some time now.

- Not enough side quests somehow. The main plot quests are there, but it feels as if there's nothing else to do.

1. Squad missions and the Garrus romance

2. Combat system

Disliked:

1. Not enough dialog with crew (Garrus, Tali, and Grunt esp.) More LI dialog.

2. Want more customization of armor. Not enough items to buy (guns, upgrades) in the shops

1) Paragon/Renegade Interrupt system

2) Side missions

Dislike

1) Lack of skills, items, weapons , vehicles, armor, party interactions…basically a bunch of stuff that was already present in ME and got completely cut out instead of enhanced.

2) Gimped codex.

Liked:
Characters in general - The love interests are better than in ME1 and the squaddies all have far more interesting backstories. Though some still seem kinda bland (I'm looking at you Jacob) and Zaeed doesn't have a dialogue tree.
Heretics - Legion's revelation of the splintered geth nation was the most fascinating reveal especially if you ended up telling the quarians to go to war earlier during Tali's loyalty mission. The ability to force new "beliefs" on the heretics via the virus was an interesting decision.

Disliked:
Mission Finished screen - Should've been handled more in-character such as a report written by Miranda (if you exhaust her dialogue tree between missions she keeps talking bout being busy... what else would she be doing except shuffling paperwork?)
ME2 squaddies being severely reduced in ME3 - I just hope that Bioware has thought about what happens to these new characters that I've grown attached to. I'd rather not have the characters relegated to NPC status or worse due to budgetary concerns of fleshing out characters that are dead for some players. I agree that some characters just aren't going come back (I'm guessing Samara/Morinth, Jack, Thane, Zaeed, Kasumi) but not all should be sent packing.

And one extra dislike:
Paragon decisions almost always results in the galaxy being full of rainbows and kittens where everyone ****s candy. As far as I can tell the only dodgy paragon decision results in the new asari merc getting away. Paragon players need to face more consequences for thier everybody is nice attitude (someone should stab them in the back).

Ninja edit:
I also love the soundtrack. Epic music for epic moments.

Improved framerate (360).  This was one of my biggest issues with the first game- sometimes it was so bad I couldn't shoot properly.

Interrupt system- I play as a paragon, but some of the renegade interrupts are just too awesome to pass up. :)

Dislike:
No elevators- just boring loading screens.  At least there was banter/announcements in the elevator.   Now I just have to stare at the same old, boring picture of the normandy over and over again.

Lack of character background- I wanted to have more chats with garrus and jacob.  Instead I got 2.  Also all of the loyalty missions were the exact same setup- it would have been nice to actually talk to the characters to learn they have a mission rather than have the journal magically know they want to talk to you.

Things I like best: how easy and fluid using powers is in real time, and the setting for all the quests on Illum.

Things I like least: Tali and how gimped the Sentinel can get when fighting off against dudes with a lot of armor.

Likes:

1. The new characters. Their alot more interesting thent he original ME1 characters and the ones that are in both games (Garrus, Tali) They really did a good job of developing their story.

2. The story. BW really made it clear that you are up against a GIANT force, and it will be damn near impossible to beat them. During the collector base mission, I was on the edge of my seat because I was so worried something might happen to my crew. And the human reaper was a nice touch.

Dislikes:

1. The soundtrack. Its not as upbeat as ME1 was (Like on Ilos for example) The music really made ME1 a game of its own for me and the soundtrack for ME2 sounded just dull.

2. TOO MANY LI's. Man, what happened to two choices for both male+female? It feels like I could recruit a maple tree on my team and hump the sap out of it when we romance each other. :P

Good things: armor customization and the fact that the story revolves around the squadmates.

BAD things: needs more armor variation and needs to let us customize our teamates.

Loved:

Characters: Some of these characters (Tali, Legion, Mordin) are the best created since the BG series, add to that relevant and emotional side quests and you've got a thing of beauty.

Combat: Loved the new interface, never been a fan of hybrid RPGs, and all those JRPGs in my youth got me sick of tactical RPGs, so 3rd person shooter with heavy role playing elements was refreshing.

Hated:

The Villain (not TIM, he was more of a protagonist with characteristics associated with villains): This applies to both the ME series and DA:O but after giving us such a deep villain as Jon Irenicus Bioware floods us with all these Deus Ex Machina "we are going to destroy everything" villains. I want a villain who I will have a tough time killing after seeing things from their perspective, Andrew Ryan comes to mind from Bioshock or Tywin Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire, you did this with Teryn Loghain to a small extent and even a smaller extent with Saren but the Reapers and the Collectors are just nonsense and not cool Lovecraftian nonsense.

Side Missions: Much, much improved from ME1, but I would like the next set of side missions to have relevance to the story and emotional heart similar to the loyalty missions.

Runner up Pet Peeve: Could we please get standardized armor for my crew during missions (modified for different species of course), they don't feel like an elite infiltration team but more like the super friends. Standardized Cerberus armor would make the team look really spiffy.

Good:

Combat was awesome. There's actually a real variety of tactics and gear to use.

I liked the loyalty mechanic. I liked the idea that I was motivating my people to storm the gates of hell and come back out of it.

Simplified level-up mechanic.

Bad:

Shoot the big red eye.

The surveying felt like filler.
