I don't normally create rant topics like this, but wth?

Granted, all the ME1 love interests all got the extremely short end of the stick, but why is Liara so far behind what even Kaidan and Ashley get? It's asinine.

The only unique things a Liara romancer gets is Liara's picture on your desk (meaningless), and an awkwardly shot "kiss" upon entering her office. After that "kiss" it makes no difference to anything whether or not you romanced Liara, and absolutely nothing is said about it. It almost feels as if BioWare completely forgot that Liara was romanceable and threw together that awkward "kiss" as an "Oh, ****!" moment.

If you romanced Kaidan or Ashley, though, you actually get content pertaining to the romance...

1) You can tell Kelly how you feel about Kaidan/Ashley.
This isn't much, admittedly, but it acknowledges the romance and your Shepard's stance. It gives you the opportunity to voice how you feel about your ME1 love interest. You can tell Kelly that it was 2 years ago and things are over, essentially breaking up with them. Or you can tell Kelly that you still have feelings for them, which solidifies your Shepard's feelings and gives you hope that you might reunite. There are also other options in that convo to voice your Shep's opinion about the ME1 LI.  So why doesn't Liara have one of these conversations? Why can't Shepard tell anyone how she feels about Liara? Why is it swept under the rug so completely?

2) Kaidan and Ashley send you an email.
This isn't much either, just a few paragraphs, but it is way more than Liara fans get. Kaidan's email tells your Shepard how he felt about your night together and how he feels about you. I assume Ashley's is the same, though I've not read the actual email. These emails further the relationship acknowledgment, regardless. They say that your ME1 LI still cares a lot for Shepard, and goes towards giving the player hope that the relationship isn't over.
Where's Liara's email? You couldn't write three paragraphs from Liara that says something similar? What the hell? Liara fans get absolutely nothing!

Unless the rumors about Liara DLC are true and there is something in that episode dealing with the romance, then what am I supposed to think about my Liara romance? There's absolutely 0 acknowledgment of it in game other than the meaningless photo and the awkward "kiss" scene. Why is her romance completely unvoiced by everyone, including Liara AND Shepard?! :pinched:

Hopefully the shoddy treatment of ME1 LI's in ME2 doesn't hint at how crappy they will be in ME3. At this point I expect complete and utter failure at giving us any sense of fulfillment.

I agree, very disappointing. I also didnt like how you couldnt go to Illium as soon as you found she was there. Im sure if i died and got resurrected the first place id go would be to see my lover.

Over all im finding most of the differences from importing a ME1 character are so minimal and sometimes barely even noticeable.

Can't do anything more than just agree at this point. BW really dropped the ball.

Well, i do see your point, thoug it's not my original impression.  Perhaps we'll find out more as the comic continues, we'll get a dlc to make up for the shyt Bioware gave us in Liara's role, or we'll have a nice satisfying ending /romance carryover.  As it stands for my Liara playthrough, we'll see.  Her pic is on the desk, so it's clear how *my* Shep feels about Liara.  Idk, we'll see is all we have right now.  There's fun in anticipating a sequel, but it's not fun when the writers anger so many fans because they were too lazy to add enough romantic dialogue.

I also am surprised by this. I didn't realize that you could talk to Kelly about Ashely and Kaiden. It's an impossible situation for those who want to end the relationship with Liara without breaking up with her.

That being said - I do feel I did get more than Ashely/Kaiden since I can spend some more time with Liara. Also, the fact that she is the one that saved Shepard - and her feelings around this did cement the relationship for me.

But yeah - no email? No verbal acknowledgement? Why?

There are many holes like this in a game that is usually so well written. That and the fact that they practically hid the option to learn what she did for you makes me hope that it's all in DLC. However, I can't help but feel that DLC is not main-game and hence less important.

I agree with this guy. She had to come to terms what Shepard was dead. And since the asari live for 1000 years, they can't spend the rest of their lives wondering about one person. Take the Matriarch in Eternity. She's had tons of lovers in her life. She has no regrets.

If Liara is your ME1 LI, the only difference you see in game is a kiss vs. a hug. That is it.

All dialog is the same, between Shep and Liara, between Shep and Kelly.

I agree. It's a load of horse crap.

Seriously, why couldn't Liara send you an email saying she wanted to see you on Illium? Why does she have to send that greeter for you, and wait until you get to Illium. Liara knows your alive and working for Cerberus.

It could have been a quick e-mail: 'Hey, I heard your still alive! Come see me when you get the chance...I'm on Illium'. If you romanced her, the email then could have had an extra line pertaining to that....'BTW, I still love you sweet-cheeks' or something less cheesy.

This.

@ OP

What they did with Liara & Sheperd is the one thing I can't stand about MEII. They really dropped the ball.

EDIT: Hopefully if these types of threads are continually made every day Bioware will fix this in III and bring the Liara romance back.

I think they left Liara intentionally vague because of the comics and possible DLC. As soon as I ran out of conversation options with her I assumed there was DLC on the way. If they leave her romance stuff for DLC it pretty much garantees all the Liara fans will buy it.

I was dissapointed that I missed th coversation explaining what she had done. I wonder why they made such a huge point from her so minimal and trivial.

I think that Bioware hit it right on the spot. Liara was my ME1 LI and when I went to see her, something felt out of place. So I went for Miranda, basically told Liara to hit the road. But once I beat the game, came here and found out there was more to Liara, I still didn’t have any regrets. Because it will be some kind of drama about it in a expansion,DLC or ME3.

I came up with my own personal story justification for it. Probably complete rubbish in relation to canon.

Liara's awkward around Shepard because the male "friend" who the shadow broker killed was her lover, so she feels like she was unfaithful to Shepard's memory.

I feel that since you had been dead for two years she had to try and move on. I don't see anything wrong with how it was handled.

Did you realise the dialogue options on ilium when you ask liara why she is so mad at the shadow broker? That's the point where you break threw her built up defense and see what's underneath. She brought you back because she couldn't deal with your death. And she's seeking for revenge going after the person who wanted to sell your body. Seriously, that few lines of dialogue are better than all the crappy mails from kaidan or ashley.

But yes in one point I agree, in me3 we need a huge amount of romance options for our me1 li's, as far as you stayed faithful of course.

i know Asari go through stages of development and change their demeanor later in life, but 2 years?!

what happened to the awkward archeologist girl who was crazy-curious about prothean relics and history? I guess that part of her died? and now she prefers offic work?

She also acts like a completely different character now.  even the way she talks and carries herself is totally out of sync with who she was in ME1. She's cold as a witch's teetows.

i just thought the whole thing was funny. beyond my comprehension. why the hell would anyone stay faithful?

Shepard is as valuable to Liara as any other Prothean data disc, nothing more, nothing less...jk, jk

I agree completely, it was so weird to see Liara acting out of character, and then knowing that she barely acknowledges the romance at all, even after she's done so much to resurrect Shepard, is even weirder.

Maybe she's afraid she's being watched at all times, and doesn't want to put Shepard at further risk? Or...maybe it's just an oversight by the writers...

All the ME1 romance options get minimal time. Obviously, they'll all get bigger roles in ME3, so sit tight. If you were following ME2 before it was released, you should have never expected much more from the ME1 romance options in ME2.

To people saying Liara "moved on because she's an alien"... No. XD

As she says herself (whether you romanced her or not) she "couldn't let you go". Liara knows Shepard is being rebuilt. Kaidan and Ashley do not, so THEY try to move on. There is absolutely no reason why Liara would "move on" after only two years, especially knowing that Shepard is being rebuilt. Saying she's an asari and "moved on" because her life-span is long implies that you know nothing about Liara.

That was the whole point, BW didn't want people to be to validate their choice of adding the new crew.

You realize Bioware purposefully made the ME 1 LI's cold to encourage most people to fall sway to the new options. If they had made Liara jump all over you and give you a thousand kisses and all cutesy, no one would question to "endure" their loyalty to ME 3.
