Liara is irreplaceable as far as I'm concerned.

As far as Ash and Kaidan, I don't think they owe Shepard that much of an apology (not butt-kissing, at least).   I think they were justified in their concerns that Shepard is working for Cerberus.

Agreed, I thought those 2 were the only characters in the game (including Shepard himself) that had any sort of believable reaction to all the events going on.

This sums it up.  Long after Shepard is dead Liara will still be around, she'll still remember the time she spent with him but she's gotta carry on with her life.

Well in all honesty with Shepard's cybernetic rebuild couldn't he in theory live a longer life than the average human now?

sorry to double post but...

i think it's on illium there's an asari who says "the great thing about dating a human is be around them for a hundred years and then take 5 decades to get over their loss and you can move on."  or something to that effect.  and if liara has any sex in the comic book i'm putting it as the rebound or depression sex.  just anything to make you feel better while you feel miserable.

It's the asari that's dating the krogan, she says that krogans have really long lives so it's not like marrying a human where you just stick it out for a hundred years.

I agree, there is no other Asari like her in the ME universe.

I would say yes.  Miranda expects she will live longer than the average human b/c of her enhancements.  I can see Shepard getting a similar treatment, as Miranda was the one in charge of the Lazarus Project.

Still, Shepard won't live as nearly as long as Liara.

Honestly I think another good reason for her not coming along is that she doesn't want Cerberus to also know whatever she finds out and is doing. EDI tells you in the beginning that the IL has the entire ship bugged all to hell and back. Any inquiry Liara made would be reported to him and Miranda at the same time.

I would also not be in the least surprised to find out that along with the SB Liara has been sending out feelers for information on Cerberus and the IL.

I doubt Liara was just romancing Shepard just for the mere experience of being with a human. When you go to the lengths that she did in order to recover his body and bring him back to life then you know there is more to her feelings for Shepard than a mere fling or friendship.

You have a point. Liara is right in the middle of battle between Cerberus and the SB. She is in a very precarious position and she could very well be gathering intel about Cerberus too, hence why she stated she could do her work on the Normandy.

No, most people don't. It's just the "I LUVS TALI!!!1!11!!" thing is overwhelming. Most people who see that one dialog section recant their hatred if they even had any.

no

I'm sorry I saw it and all I wanted to say was "Seriously? you pick avenging frogboy rather than save the galaxy with the man you loved so much you just could not give up even after death?"

If they did that, my Shep would die either from in-game suicide or exernal suicide (me not buying ME 3 to witness that bafoonery, hence not finishing my Shep's story)

I wondered about that too.  Shep has a heck of a lot of replacement parts post-Lazarus (nano-repaired heart, armored spinal cord, neural implants, probably at least one prosthetic arm, etc).  He/she could be living a very long time.

That also brings up an interesting point, namely Shepard possibly settling down and starting a family with his/her love interest in the end of ME3.  It would be rather hard to do with Liara under normal circumstances, since you'd be dead long before she got out of the Maiden stage.  However, if the implants kept Shep alive for a longer period it'd be a much better possibility.  It would be quite interesting, not to mention heartwarming, if the devs gave you that option in the end.

Who's saying she's in bed with the drell?  I know some have speculated it, but it's hardly confirmed.

Yeah, I'll in-game suicide my Shepard by failing the ME2 suicide mission royally!  Can't really play ME3 after my Shepard is dead...no need to buy it.

I once again want to offer my sympathies to you folks and any fans of characters who were cut. As this thread title says Bioware really did put a lot of ME1 on the back burner, Wrex, Liara, Kaidan, Ashley, Anderson, Undina, Hackett. It is as if Bioware wanted most of ME1 to go away in ME2.

I am after all a very jealous guy -smiles-...she picks her friend's memory over her first lover (me)....then for all I care she can now belong to frogboy.....someone held the mere memory of me above any possible suitor of her entire race for 2 years.....nuff said

You know what, though? Thinking on this issue further . . . We haven't read the rest of the comic yet, and they may even expand some of this in dlc/ expansion, who knows? If people really loved Liara from ME1, then they will/should (imo) be willing to wait and see what happens in ME3. Of course, letting the forums and devs know that they want to see her more and happy again, but maybe there is more to why they painted her in this dark light than what we now realize?

or i'm being incredibly optimistic again.

Anyway, that's my take on why kaidna and Liara are painted this way. . . fell free to vent ont he group in my signature (there's a link :))

Yeah but then we need to wait until ME3 and who wants to do that...

I realize she went through some tough times, but why is she still cold to Shepard even after Shepard tells her that she was wrong about being hated for what she did.

Because it is just a contrived way for BW to keep her off the squad.  Honestly there isn't a good reason she wouldn't help you/want your help.  BW just wanted to sideline her and that was that.  I'm not sure it is even supposed to make sense or was intended to explain anything.  It simply is what it is.

This. Exactly.

The Normandy SR2 is likely the most advanced ship in the galaxy, she couldn't continue her quest for the SB's head on a platter from there? I mean really, sitting in an office on Illium with a big target on her back is better? There should have been some option after you tell her you don't hate her, other than "How are you?" and "Oh it could be years before I find the SB." Years?! Really?! Then how about we travel together while you pursue this insane vendetta, because, in case you missed it, I'm from a short-lived species.
It makes no sense. <_<

Ummm the human is lost here B)

I am assuming that any Liara based DLC will be about taking down the SB.
It seems that a mission such as this would take up to much space to be on ME3 (if BW did it properly, it could take hours to complete).
I am basing this theory on the hacking quests that Shepard had to do for her.
Maybe once the SB is dead Liara can open up to Shepard.
I agree BW defied logic by making her stay on Illium when she would be more useful on the Normandy SR2 (yes, it is most advance warship ever built according to BW).
I am assuming if this Liara DLC comes out, she will tell you she found the SB and wants you to kill him. Hopefully, she would come along as a squadmate too, but this is probably me just hoping.

And don't forget it has an unrestrained AI now that could probably dig through everything faster.

Even with ME3 the only 'promise' we have is that the ME1 LIs had to survive was to close POTENTIAL storylines in ME3. There is absolutely no guarantee that they will be in ME3 at this point. Considering the badly plotted scenes we got I am not holding out much hope for anything. We got more reaction from very minor characters in ME2 who did not even know Shepard compared to what we got from our LI's who supposedly knew them very well.

Not sure if this was covered already, but do you get the 'magic line' of dialogue option even if you didn't romance Liara in ME1? Presumably the kiss is romancers-only...

sadly the kiss is the only thing that seperates the meeting for people that did or did not romance her.

Its an unshackled AI. Also note we could have Legion and he states that they (the geth) are going through ALL material that gets put on the FTL networks. With EDI and Legion working together I doubt that even encrypted material would stand in their way that long.

My renegade shep was an ass to her, basically called her worthless and told her to shut up.  If she still loves him after that...there's something wrong with BioWare.

Something wrong with Liara, more like it.

Either way, in the comic, Liara is searching for Shepard and refers to him as a friend on numerous occasions.

I say something is wrong with BW because they write Liara.

I agree with the OP.

I had not played ME1.  When ME2 was released, I read a review which suggested playing ME1 first.  So I downloaded ME1, played it through (Engineer ftw!) and romanced Liara.

I was smitten with Liara.  I found her so ... innocent, I suppose.  Pure.  What a ray of light she was, to me anyway.  I thought the love scene in ME1 was wonderful, and I was tickled when I imported my ME1 character into ME2 that Liara's portrait was on my desk.  Playing the music in the room took me back to the ME1 love scene.  It was all very cool, if only in my mind.

I pretty much made a beeline to find Liara when I was able, and was incredibly disappointed in her (non-) reaction to me.  I kept revisiting her, hoping to trigger some new dialogue.  I missed the Liara-gave-me-to-Cerberus dialogue (as on the youtube vid), but it didn't change my feelings.

I suppose her attitude is that she's grieving for the old shepard, the one who got spaced.  That she doesn't accept the rebuilt shepard as "her" shepard.  Until the youtube video, I speculated to myself that maybe there was an asari child (Shepard's love baby) involved from the love scene in ME1, which would somewhat explain her defensive and hardened demeanor.

I guess what kept fooling me was that Liara's portrait stayed up in my office after all of this, making me believe a romance was still possible.  I finally let her go and went with Tali... (though I never did get to see her face, dammit!) ... but every time I entered my quarters and heard the music, I felt a little guilty, along with the feeling I had when I saw Liara's portrait face-down on the desk ...
