They just better have some epicly wicked expansion pack planned to tie this altogether.  I've waited two years to find out what happens to Shep and Liara and with the way things currently stand it is about to spoil the whole ME experience for me. :(

I agree. My favorite part of ME1 was the Liara romance. Without it, ME2 just wasn't the same for me. Unless they have some Liara DLC up their sleeve or she makes a comeback in ME3, it will really have spoiled the trilogy for me.

Well even if we get DLC (unless it is gigantic) and Liara back in ME3 the trilogy is already missing its entire second chapter for me, not much they can do to fix that.  I suppose I can try and keep hoping that ME3 doesn't completely destroy the character.  I supose I can allow myself that much at this point. <_<

Yeah, unless BW half-asses ME3, I can't see them being able to fit the remainder of the story into one more game.
Maybe that is their plan though is to make more than three games.
Nevertheless, we need some massive Liara DLC.

Yeah, if we get a 10-15 hour expansion pack that is nothing but Liara and Shep, that would be enough to make me happy again.

True enough. The good that might come from a Liara DLC would be more and better content to fill that hole of nothing that is the second game for the Shepard/Liara romance.

But in all likelyhood, should there be a Liara DLC, she will in fact be only a small part of it, the quest giving NPC or something.

 Supporting this thread.

Liara got so little in the game. No acknowledgement. No "Sorry Tali, I'm still with Liara. I have a picture on my desk that I stare at longingly when I'm about to go on a suicide mission." The picture and the kiss were nice touches, but a few more acknowledgements of the romance would have gone a long way to making me feel satisfied. I've said this before but, like I said, I'm supporting this thread in particular.

If not DLC, then merely a confirmation of the epic nature of the ME3 Liara romance would be enough for me.

what happened to the shy and sweet girl I saw in the first game? now Liara's so cold... and kinda boring. she's so obsessed with revenge. I don't want a girl like that! it was the easier decision I ever made to forget about her and go out with Miranda

Yeah thats because in the first game she was like a Litlle girl with a Crush...In ME2 she is Cold and wants to kill people...
Yeah she seems real stable.... LOL

Lol I was the opposite.  Kaidan: "I LOVED you Shepard (but I still call you by your last name), that night meant everything to me, I thought it did to you too."   "Hmm that's too bad....now which way did Garrus go?"

Exactly, and as people have said, shep was more excited to see Garrus then Liara which is lame considering Liara was a LI in ME and Garrus was just a friend.

That is sad.  I cringed when my Shepard yelled 'Garrus'!  after meeting him on Omega.   We weren't that friendly, damn!

Pretty much unless they were about to die, everyone in the ME universe was more excited to see Shep then Liara.

Characters change over time. Totally new concept, I know.

Hey check this out:
Writers typically do a better job of explaining changes and it still doesn't explain why Shep isn't given the option to say anything even if Liara won't.

That would probably ****** off the entire fanbase and kill ME3. First, very few want a clone storyline and second, almost no one wants ME3 to start with another clean slate. We want this Shepard back. We want the ME1 members back. We want the ME2 survivors back. We want a continuation, not a "restart".

Well if they are developing brand new squad mates, prepare to restart yet again.  Can we at least keep the same ship this time?

I thought the treatment of Liara was excellent, she's become obsessed and Shepard gets pushed to the side. The scene with the photograph really hit that home for me.

I agree with this guy. She had to come to terms what Shepard was dead. And since the asari live for 1000 years, they can't spend the rest of their lives wondering about one person. Take the Matriarch in Eternity. She's had tons of lovers in her life. She has no regrets.

she said she looked for shepard's body because shepard was dead *and she couldn't let go*

she didn't move on, you just didn't listen.

When BioWare started talking about the second Mass Effect being a darker game I was thinking, "Good lord, how many things are they going to change now?"
In their quest to create a darker atmospshere and obsession to have us cheat on our ME1 LI (Liara forever!!!) they completely ignored the quality is better than quantity rule (side quests excluded).
In a way, this kind of feels like KOTOR 2 (I know BW didn't develop it). It is as if they tried to make an entirely emotionally seperate game from the first one.

Well in a trilogy the 2nd act is usually the dark one and when done well doesn't need to really change a whole lot.  I mean look at Star Wars with Empire Strikes Back, the darkest of the original 3 and a lot of people I know consider it to be their favorite one.  Empire only introduced a handful of new chars so they could continue to focus on the original chars.  That imo is where BW went wrong with ME2, too many new chars and it was kind of pointless since they could all just die anyways.

It also doesn't make sense. The Asari treasure the time spent with short-lived partners, so unless Liara is no longer interested she's being very selfish to say the least.

And yet people keep asking for new LI chars.. I say "No More!". Pick one LI char from ME1 or ME2 and develop it in ME3. It's the final chapter, no time to be a Romeo in all chapters...

Besides, we already have 8 total possible romances.. if we keep asking for more and more loveable chars it's obvious quality/resources for previous ones will fail.

Anybody think/hope that after Redemption is finished, they'll release some DLC?

Obviously, if we all know what happens in the comics, nobody is going to buy them.

I don't think it's just Liara they dropped the ball with. The Universe feels entirely incomplete. Choices don't seemed to have stretched further than the planets you made them on. People remember things incorrectly.

If I was just able to return to Noveria, Feros and the Wards and Presidium from the original game, and see how my choices had affected those areas....

Sorry for being off-topic. Just sayin'.

They really should have planned better and had the comic end just before the game came out.  Poor planning that unfortunately may have had a bad impact on the scene overall, though it feels more like it was a lack of effort than a desire not to spoil the comic.

I agree with your other points as well.  I suppose having choices that carry over with weight behind them was just too hard to pull off.  Most of your choices from the first game are either ignored (like Liara) or amount to a random email or radio broadcast.  Nothing we did in ME1 really had any solid or lasting impact in ME2.

They should have pulled a Star Trek and released them back to back in the 4 weeks leading up to the game with the final issue coming with the game so you could get fully caught up while the game installed.

I'm thinking Feron and Liara will become friends, but I don't see it becoming more than that. Especially in a short 4-part comic, which is already halfway done.

I beat ME2 staying faithful to her. Now we just need to have faith in Bioware. :P

she picks avenging feron over being with shepard.....even if shepard was the one who popped her blue Asari cherry.

sorry but I do not buy the friendship thing

Its more than just "avenging Feron".  The SB went after Shepard, too.  The Shadow Broker is a threat, plain and simple.  I'm sure Liara had every faith in Shepard succeeding, and that he didn't need her, though she would have been tremendously valuable, both in combat and emotionally.

He may have gone after Shep but at this point Liara is doing this for her"friend," she says as much when you dig into why she is going after the SB.

I also think Liara will be a DLC, as the preparations for that are already set in ME2 ...

even it is too late for my Sheppard :-)

They really should never have introduced so many new companions. It's only natural that it would take away development time from others. It seems widely accepted as the main reason that they didn't want to discourage new players who wouldn't know the old companions. If that's the case (and I think it is), it's more than probable that ME 3 will again do the same. All that we should realistically hope for at this point is that the relationship with Liara plays ANY role at all, maybe at least in your particular ending (if the game features relevant different endings at all). Just look at all the other changes they got away with, people still bought the game.

A lot would have probably remained faithful that didn't from the looks of this thread.  I'm sure the devs see Liara's complete mischaracterization as a big "win" for them based on that alone. :(

Now we're just waiting for BW to drop the bomb on us, in ME3 by having Liara really having turned every bit as psychotic and murderous as she comes across in ME2 - that will teach us a thing or two about committing criminal acts just because we trust someone we used to like, hehe.

We are going to start ME3 in an Asari prison because we helped Liara hack their systems.

Ugh, why does that not sound far fetched at this point? <_<

And it will be a cryo facility where we will have been out for 100 years and the reapers are tearing up the galaxy.  This way BW can kill off all the LI's except for Liara just by saying they died of old age and Liara died at the hands of the SB because you weren't there to save her cause she got your ass thrown in prison.

And what else does she say, hmm? She says shes doing it for Shepard as well, because she obviously feels a great deal of guilt about handing him over to cerberus, and SB trying to sell Shepards body to the collectors was the cause of doing that. It also clearly didnt sit well with her regardless.

Its a bigger part of her grude again the SB than Feron is. She cares about Feron, but its Shepard that means more to her. Its in a later dialogue, and has more time and animation afforded to it.

It doesnt change the fact that the romance with Liara is not mentions, by either Liara or Shep, Garrus and Tali have nothing to say, and no one on the ship make any reference to her, which they all do for Kaiden/Ashley/

If you romanced Liara the only thing you get is a kiss and then she shakes her head like it was a mistake and then its all business, and Shep cant even go "What, is something wrong?"

Patience is a virtue that it is clear some people in this topic seriously lack.

You were all told BEFORE the game came out that they wouldn't be in it much, it was a bit obvious the conversations weren't going to be great, specially for Ash/Kaiden considering your working for an enemy that we fought in ME and obviously due to Liara as she feels guilty for giving you to Cerberus.

I know this might be hard for some of you kids to understand but I am sure Bioware is going to ensure the LIs play a big part in ME3 so how about showing some patience.
