Things that simple change people, (or aliens how ever they are portrayed). One could argue she is being cold to protect him, she's going after the Shadow Broker after all, any email or transmission could potentially get intercepted and draw Shepard into a conflict that she doesnt want him involved in.

Again, that's a compltely nonsensical explanation.

Liara obviously isn't concerned about her office being bugged, as she flat-out says she's going to kill the Shadow Broker, and all her missions for Shep are explained in the office. There's no reason Liara wouldn't be able to acknowledge the romance in her office. She obviously doesn't mind Shepard getting involved since she, you know, had you work on 2 specific missions to help bring the SB down.

I highly doubt Liara did anything with Feron. If so, then I feel completely justified if my Shep sleeps with someone else in ME2. She was cold, distant, and other than the AWKWARD OPEN EYED KISS, she showed no romantic interest in my Shep. Still, hopefully the "liaradlcleadin" goes somewhere.

Or it could just be BW foreshadowing their deaths in ME3.

Nah, if that was their intent, they already missed the perfect moment: the destruction of Normandy.

Their deaths there would have served the story, given Shepard additional, personal motive to go against the Collectors. Would have made him/her working with Cerberus easier to explain.

If they kill them off after such nothing cameos, it won't really make much sense, stringing them along for two games being useless,  except as yet another middle finger to the ME1 fans who liked what was offered with the first game.

I am not sure what it is about Liara that makes people think that things would still be the same. She seams to go from more of an innocent which lasts for I think 109 years, and then in 2 years suffers the loss of Shepard and another friend.

But if she was sheps LI in ME and you stayed faithful, you'd through yourself into the fray if you truely loved her, regardless of if she was trying to protect you.  She's trying to protect you and you're trying to protect her.

I kind of thought the lack of ME1 love interest input was to make ME3 reunions a lot more intense.

See, for Kaidan and Ashley that might still make some sense. A reunion when they realize that you wern't a traitor and such. But with Liara, there is no way to explain that.

She is pregnant with Feron's child and wants you to raise it, as he dies in captivity.  Are you MAN enough to be a fill in father?  Coming soon in ME 3...

My Shepard would be WOMAN enough b/c she still would love Liara...even if she's carrying Feron's love-child.

These things happen....

And if the Shadow Broker doesn't know about Liara and Shepard having been an item... Well, he/she/it/they should have been out of business a long time ago. Hell, even if they were just friends there wouldn't be anything too out of place for them to catch up aboard the Normandy, where she could speak freely.

The biggest joke is that they developed this rather useless quest that Liara gives you. Just cutting that out would have freed enough time (if that was an issue, which I believe it was) to better explain her changes to everyone, and give those who romanced her a few lines on top.

As a side note: Just imagine you hadn't read before about the small roles that most of the ME 1 companions were reduced to. Imagine going into the game, waiting to for the reunion with Kaidan / Ashley / Liara, then getting THIS. Now that would've been a disappointment.

I appologize, had a long day and I thought that was again a topic about how dark Liara is and how unjustified the "180 change in her psyche" was...

Ironically enough... I agree with your post... (yes I deserve a slap for that one)

Again, my appologies, proof that the title is not always a dead give-away.

I wouldn't call it useless until we see ME3.  The mission line actually servers two immediate purposes.

 - It shows us that Liara is seriously working on going after the Shadow Broker instead of just talking about it.
 - It shows us that the Shadow Broker is concerned enough about a possible threat from Liara to secretly install an assassin as Liara's personal assistant.

There's also a third and more subtle purpose - it rewards players who are actually friends with their former team members instead of just looking to use said team members.  You do the missions, you ask the right question, and you find out what's really going on - as opposed to just showing up and being filled in on why Liara is the way that she is.

The people upset about her darker personality are just the people that are upset that they can't pretend she is one of their girl, can't be legal, hentai fantasies.

I know, she isnt the weak innocent girl that has seen nothing but prothean ruins anymore... that was a great development imo on Bioware's part.

Again, I have just seen so many of the topics I was raging against that I expected this to be no different.

She was never a weak girl, but I would hardly call what BW did development.  What they did with Tali was development.  She grew, matured, worked hard and has risen among the fleet to a position of respect and grown bold enough to express herself and her feelings for Shepard.  That was really good character growth.

Liara did a complete 180.  That's a retcon not character growth, there are a lot of degrees between 0 and 180, lets use em.  I can accept that for the most part it is just her putting on a front and a brave face, but BW did a poor job in portraying that.

This may have already been said... and many people missed it. But after you help her uncover the Observer, one specific conversation choice will allow you to see how she really feels.

It doesn't really tell you how she feels, just why she is so angry with the shadow broker.

Nah, it's more dramatic if they build up your expectations for ME3 and then in the opening scene they have you spending time with your LI and then bam, reapers attack and your LI dies in the attack.  Now you have a pissed off shep and the reapers are totally screwed.

Agreed 100%, it was retcon in order to make Liara more of a badass to new players, Liara went from Sansa Stark to Cersei Lannister in all of 2 years, the comics better do a darn good job.

Yea I was really dissapointed. After doing her quests and reading the forum and finding out about giving my body to the shadow broker I still thought it was poorly done. She sacraficed so much just to get me back to life but then shes not that happy to see me. Even if she is not happy to see me Shepard would of been and should of had more things to say to her.

Also I see a few people are saying it was proberly just a fling for her and ment nothing and I have to disagree. I don't know if anyone else has said it but Liara says in the done it with anyone before so I think she would always remember her first time. Though I don't know if she just meant sex or the mind thing Asari do even if she had had sex before that mind thing was a first for her. There also the people who say the ME1 LIs only had sex with you because they thought they were going to die and that may be true but the way thing were going with Liara she would of eventualy had sex with you anyway I think.

Even though I am approaching anything the ME2 writers touch with a lot of trepidation at this point I don't think even they will go that far.

Heh, I remember how they occasionally used to chide us for not trusting them, despite their great track record.

Remember Liara's hacking missions the next time someone speaks of "emotionally engaging"...
