I just assumed ME1 LI's weren't touched in ME2 to ensure their survival for ME3. A sort of 'get out of jail free' card, so to speak. Perhaps they become pivotal to the story, to the point that it breaks down if they've died in ME2.

I see people saying this on various threads, but where does that leave the fans of the new LIs? If what you say is true, does that mean that none of the new LIs will be squadmates in ME3? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding it.

It leaves them in the same situation those of us who prefere the original LI's are in right now.  There are going to be a lot of things needing to be resolved in ME3 and a lot of variables, I hope BW doesn't look at the list and just half ass it.

I hope that Liara returns to her old self, honestly. Her personality reminded me a bit of my real girlfriend... she hates that I say that. :P

now THAT would be good

those who want her back can try and break up qith the ME2 LI and conquer Liara back

OR

they can give her their blessing for her new relationship with the Drell and keep the ME2 love interest

sounds good to me everybody wins

So long as her "new" relationship doesn't start with the Drell till after we dump her I'm okay with that, and that we can flush him out the airlock if we don't.

Her reactions in my opinion are those of someone who saved an old lover but fell in love with the man who helped her to save this old lover in the process. That is why she is so furious and angry and all evil towards the Shadown Broker. A part of me gets the feeling we're going to see her come back in ME3 asking for our help in rescuing the Drell who she loves now.(That would really s**k in my opinion.) But it is also the reason they gave us the LIs in ME2.

If they actually do go this route, and Liara has any sort of romantic involvement with the Drell I don't think there is anything BW could do that would make me want to buy ME3.  Or probably any game they ever make again.

Ah yeah....that would be quite the gut punch. :-(

Just got to the part where you meet her again and I noticed after you kiss her she shakes her head as if she shouldn't have done that.

I missed the dialogue wheel on my first run through, but got it on my second after wondering the sam thing. Check out this youtube video (not mine) and you might understand what she's been going through the last two years.

So far, after 2 issues of Redemption, nothing has happened between Liara and Feron.  Not even hints of attraction.

Now you're being paranoid. I thought she looked away b/c she was trying to regain her composure after seeing Sheapard again after 2 years.

Yeah, I also had the feeling there was something fishy going on, judging by her reaction/expression after she kisses you... hmm...

I think we've all seen it now, doesn't make most of us feel any better about the situation.

Also, during the conversation when she asks for your help she says she can't tell you what this is all about because everythign is probably being recorded, but after mission she talks about killing the shadow broker...

But there's no need to regain composure if she was still in love with shep.

I came up with my own personal story justification for it. Probably complete rubbish in relation to canon.

Liara's awkward around Shepard because the male "friend" who the shadow broker killed was her lover, so she feels like she was unfaithful to Shepard's memory.

Mr. Burns: Excellent.

And when shepard finds out about her cheating on you in ME3, it will vex the heck out shepard in deciding wheter or not to save Liara from certain death. I LOVE IT!

I just have this feeling that with the way everything in ME2 has gone BW is going to gratuitously throw it in there at the end of the comic.  Her having a relationship with Feron is really the only explanation of why she is so obsessed with the Shadow Broker and her whole reaction to seeing Shepard again and not wanting to go with him after she finds out he is alive, and I want to preemptively express my dislike of the tasteless turn of events. :P

Is there a way to help her without getting renegade points or are we forced to get them if we feel this goes along with keeping the LI going?

I chose all of the paragon answers when I did the quests for her and when I finished the last quest, I got paragon points and she was happy.

and maybe it's just bad animation, but it almost looks like she mouths something to you right before the kiss.

Hmm, I did that as well but still got renegade points after I hacked the systems

It is only 5 renegade points and you are not sacraficing any optional Paragon points for them, I have never played ME1 and now 2 with out getting around the first bar of renegade filled by the end.

I agree Liara should have gotten more specific romance content. One awkward kiss really doesn't cut it. On the bright side, you get to just go look at her and talk to her whenever you want. I wish there was someplace I could go to see Kaidan again, even if he was a little upset with me. Kinda sucked not being able to see him but that one small part of the game.

I always thought she was upset that Shepard walked in on her threatening to flay someone alive.
I don't know about the rengade points.
You used all of the paragon conversation options even if some of them disagree with her? I think if you agree with her to kill someone you get renegade points at the end of the quest.

I felt just about everything they did in ME2 was to advance the story while keeping you distracted with all the combat elements and pretty worlds and cool missions.

They did this to "save the best for last" or at least I hope I'm right.

Except the story didn't advance.  We are at exactly the same place at the end of ME2 as we were at the end of ME1, only now we have a ship full of homeless people tagging along with us and no Liara.

Yeah, makes you wonder what the ME3 story is going to be like.
In all honesty, they are going to need more than two disks to cover ME3 and everything that should have happened in ME2.

Depends. If you were expecting a major role for the new LIs, you are not in a good position. None of them had character shields, and this "mortality" was a deliberate choice Bioware made.

If you will be satisfied with any appearance and at least an acknowledgement of the romance, I wouldn't worry too much.
