a couple weeks ago i posted a forum saying the game SOLD 2 million copies in 3 days..I made a mistake it SHIPED 2 million copies in 3 days(which still is good) however week 1 sales have come in. and it sold 1 million copies in a week.WHY why is it that COD sells a bijillion copies.or why is it halo sells a bjillion copies WHY

why are rpgs considered not as good why is it they dont sell as well
gears of war sold 5 million copies mass effect 1 and 2 should be selling that good if those gears fans love 3rd person shooters yet mass effect games just DONT for some reason

it isnt fair bioware deserves the 4 million slaes in one day prize that cod mw2 got
what is it do people just not like rpgs do they not market well what is it its driving me crazy and im sick of it

dont get me wrong mass effect 2 will probally sell 3 million copies by the end of they year but it just deserves more than that.....im sick of all this injustice in the community i want it to STOP will there ever be a day when an rpg sells not good but GREAT..seroisly look at fable 2 it had the strongest sales day for a western rpg it was about 1.21 million in one day AND YET for some reason games like halo sell almost 4 million copies in an hour WHAT THE HECK MAN and onre more thing..if there are 5 million people subscribed to this site WHY ARENT U 5 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS BUYING BIOWARE GAMES if mass effect1 sold 2 million copies in its life time that meens the other 3 million people on the site never bought it. I MEEN CMON WHAT GIVES

can anyone tell me why this is happening

Halo ODST didn't sell like crazy like Halo 3 or Halo 2, sold very nicely but around something like 5M total, and a million is good for a week or less and you have to remember the PC sales never get released.

well, I still think that Mass Effect 2 will sell very well. But I see what you mean. ME 2 deserves to sell as many, or more, copies than COD or Halo. I like Halo and COD. I think that they're great games, and that they deserve to sell so many copies. But I think that Mass Effect deserves the same, or more.

Games like Modern Warfare are stupid hype games. The media tell it`s the best and so many gamers just parroting it. It`s hype, not a really good games, mostly average like the Call of Duty series is... average. Still, Dragon Age and Mass Effect sell absolutly well even if they don`t do as same as good as a dumb shooter like that. However, in the video game history these hype titles are often not much more than footnotes.

I play console/PC, a vast majority of console players that I meet favor the shooter genre. The momentum this game had gained from ME 1 favored the RPG genre which are scarce on XBL (I only have 2 friends that are RPG fans and 50+ are shooter fans).

If it doesn't sell 5+ million copies,Bioware will have to come to terms with the fact that there's an hard cap on how well dialogue heavy game can sell.

this is the most hyped Bioware game I think. There are commercials for it a lot on television. Especially on comedy central I've seen ads during a lot of shows like the daily show, Colbert and Tosh.0

yup, and true shooter fans will not like ME2 because its to talkative and to much non shooting time in it!

sadly MOST(not all) shooter fans are adrenline pumped teenagers who are loaded with caffine and think they are cool if they blow stuff up and feel like they are tottaly badass but then they play mass effect and OMG if they should have to endure 10 minutes of talking..sadly their developing minds usuualy cant handle the complex stories of bioware games...then again im a tenager 16 years old but i dont buy into that "your gay if u love rpgs and only fit in if u play cod"crap im an rpg gamer

It's sad really.... ME, ME2, Fallout etc... are superior games but the genre will eventually die simply because of the business model.

EA or (insert major corp) is going to look at the profit margin and decide that soulless eyecandy like MW2 that cost 5 million* to make and sells 5 million* copies is better than ME2 that cost 10 million* to make and sells 3 million* copies.

I've a friend who is mainly into shooters and ME1 sort of introduced him to RPG's.

He's now trying Dragon Age so there is hope yet:)

if you want sales figures http://www.vgchartz.com/ is the place, you use the search in the corner to see figures of past games but PC figures are almost never released and the site doesn't list the PC sales.

im not saying mass effect 2 wont make a profit it will sell very well (for an rpg) but i just long for the day bioware sells like 5 million copies off a game..so far their most succecful game was baldurs gate which sold 4 million copies(0f course that was in the 90s when the game community was good and everyone played rpgs)

Not a lot of people have patience for RPGs. The only RPG my roomie can play is Fable 2 and...well...that hardly qualifies as an RPG.

There is some injustice in a ****ty game like MW2 (CoD4 was much better) selling as well as it does and ME2 or DA:O selling the way they do. But Bioware has nothing to complain about. They do very well by anyone's standard, and they're the undisputed kings of the RPG market. Not that it has a ton of competitors.

If you sell 2-3 million copies of your game - It's very successful, regardless of genre

From what i've seen of MW2 it's really overhyped for all the attention the media gives it. I don't really care too much since i've come to terms with the fact that games like ME are niche games don't attract the mainstream audiance.

Not just true shooter fans.

Even most rpg fans don't care much for Bioware games. They prefer to play things like Diablo or wow, where you just bash monsters in the head and collect a lot of loot.

It's why Final fantasy will keep outselling any Bioware game in the west. Most rpg fans don't care about the quality of the dialogue or the storyline,as long as it's perfectly polished and there's a lot of monsters to kill with a solid combat system.

Bioware must be smart enough to realize that they won't sell 10 million copies of their rpg like Square did with FF VIII.

Whats with all this CoD hate?  The first MW was an awesome game, that wasn't too hyped, and kinda earned it.  Fun as hell if you even had 1 friend to play MP with.  The second one kinda road in on the firsts coattails, and was overhyped, but the first stands on its merits alone.
