I can't think of a single expansion that wasn't over-priced if you compare its content to the content of the original game.

I do, BGII - Throne of Bhaal - best bang for the buck in this century, definitely.

15 hours is fine, as long as it's a kick arse 15 hours.

What's with this gamer generation's Entitlement Syndrome? It doesn't matter which game forum, there is always someone demanding that the devs add/remove/buff/nerf/increase/decrease something; otherwise, the company is cheating its helpless consumer base :crying:.

BioWare did not force you to buy any of their products -- and they never will nor can.

I think I'll wait for some reviews first before buying DAA, seems like the best solution to this issue.

This does indeed sound like a reasonable solution to those upset by anything about any upcoming game.

You're going to pay for a full game, and get 9 hours tops. And while that may be okay in some games, it's not okay in an RPG, it's just not. What GOOD RPG is short? Can anyone give an example?

What good RPG? Or what good RPG expansion?

We don't have a say on what is charged for an expansion, and you have every right to decide what you think is worthwhile for you to pay for, but I suspect that "% of original game length = % of original price" is not the formula used... not for this expansion or any expansion that I know of.

And yes, BIOWARE has said point blank, that this is not a full game. Okay, so stop charging people like it is maybe? I hate to be spiteful, but at this point given the marketing strategy here, I hope Awakening gets murdered by Final Fantasy XIII or something else coming out in March, then maybe BIOWARE can get someone above a 4th grade reading level as their Marketing Manager.

Gosh. With that kind of persuasive talk, I just don't see how we couldn't scramble to accomodate you. Image IPB

It's exactly that kind of sarcasm that makes me all the more happy I won't be contributing to Awakening's profits.  Sure, perhaps what I said was crude, but what about that whole, the customer is always right speal?  Didn't they teach you guys that in marketing school?  When a customer is irate, or lashes out, you don't goad them on regardless of what they say.  If you worked as a cashier at Walmart and someone threw a fit that something was over priced, would your reply be sarcastic?  I doubt it.  Where's this team that is supposed to help out at the community here?  Are you guys going to let your consumers be treated like that?  If you guys that actually respond here on the community (Chris, David, Ferret etc) have no say in the prices of your products, then kindly tell us who does, and maybe we'll bring our gripes to them.  Point me in the direction and I'll say my peace, I've no problems doing that obviously Image IPB

Also, to answer my own question of name an RPG under 15 hours that was any good, Chrono Trigger. But we're talking over 10 years ago, and on SNES. And I'm sorry if the years have made me expect more length from an RPG, but still....

nobody has even said it is 15 hrs. except that one mag. so for all we know awakeings can be 5-8 hrs. if it was 15 I would be fine with that but bioware keeping quiet about it seems a little odd since they have gave an hour length frame for there dlc so far. plus with gaider saying wait for a review sounds really odd because most game corps want people to pre-order but bioware is assuming that they have there fans hooked enough it doesn't matter about what people who have a mind think.

I have a feeling it's mostly going to be contend like fights and such, and that's a good thing. This seems more about giving your old characters something more to do, while adding some new features and such at the same time.

Less than 15 hours to give 5+1 characters some story, giving you a new evil to destroy, telling a whole story? Cannot imagine that, its like writing a book with three pages...

When a customer is irate, or lashes out, you don't goad them on regardless of what they say.  If you worked as a cashier at Walmart and someone threw a fit that something was over priced, would your reply be sarcastic?  I doubt it.

Indeed, you'd probably call security and they'd be thrown out.

I'm glad the Bioware devs can take the time to answer snarky remarks, but how about the actual question? An actual official answer would cut down on the speculation hysteria. I know different people play at different speeds, but a range would be nice, especially since they are pushing for pre-orders and the game is due out in a month.

For the record, I got the "Easily Sidetracked" achievement on my first playthrough (missed under 10 sidequests) and completed in under 60 hours. Stone Prisoner took about an hour, WK & RTO took less. I can live with spending $5 on WK, but RTO was subpar. I agree that DA:O has massive replay value, and I factor that into the whole "time/money" dilemma, but I don't want the replay time being added to the projected gameplay time. Two hundred forty hours? Maybe with three characters or lots of game overs.

Don't pad it out (well if you read all the codices) or obfuscate (24-240 hours!), give a range. Please. I won't judge the game purely on the length vs. price ratio, but give me something. Yes, Bioware makes very engaging games. Cons - each new DLC has been increasingly low quality and there are a lot of bugs in the 360 version that still haven't been formally addressed, let alone patched. That track record coupled with the lack of information makes me hesitant to blow $40 on an expansion pack. I love Bioware, but [EDIT] the tech support issues are killing me.

Oops. That explains a lot. ^_^ Though I remember reading that Bioware did help Obsidian with some of the development. Can't blame them for that one - my bad.

I know Edge of Reality ported the 360 Dragon Age, but I guess if we're to expect the same level of...issues with an expansion, well, I'm hesitant to blow the money.

For me 15 hours is borderline acceptable. Hefty price for a short time compared to the main game, but what it all comes down to is are those 15 hours pure fun. It's gonna be tough, but if bioware raises the bar, then they have my money!

15 is ok, but if it can be beaten in 5-8 hours bioware and the dragon age franchise are gonna feel major major major fan and industrey backlash. Although I seriously doubt they would charge forty bucks for a game that can be beaten in less then ten hours, even if thats only when a player rushes through.

Heh, if this is the case I'd love to see how people who mock modern warfare 2 for it's length react.

I really hope that is not the case I would be happy with 15 hours becuase it would be a little more than that for the people who take there time and I am one of those people. it took me nearly 80 hours in the main game for all the sidequests plus secret stuff and getting in as much dialogue as I could.

I have a feeling a 15 hour campaign is possible. However side quests could make or break it. I mean imagine side quests with things like an Arena and such, things that give you plenty to do...

The customer is not always right, not when they are behaving badly. It is not a shield. And I am not part of marketing -- I am a developer who comes here on my own time, thank you very much.

When a customer is irate, or lashes out, you don't goad them on regardless of what they say.

Didn't you say you weren't buying Awakening? As I recall, that makes you not a customer. You are, however, in our house and on our forums. If you feel hard done by I suggest you contact Victor Wachter, our community coordinator.

If you guys that actually respond here on the community (Chris, David, Ferret etc) have no say in the prices of your products, then kindly tell us who does, and maybe we'll bring our gripes to them.  Point me in the direction and I'll say my peace, I've no problems doing that obviously Image IPB

What you are looking for is our publisher -- EA. We are developers, as in the people actually making the game. That's it.

Arrgghh...

Do you know how rare it is to get time to talk or get feedback from a developer or game head or *writer*?

He *has* been doing this for around 10 years, iirc... talking to us, that is.

Please lay off the writers or developers... marketing and business is not a centralised process.

These are the guys trying to make something good first... that is their first goal.

I hate STUFF too... lets just calm down... drinks at mine?

EDIT: You left Balduran's Cloak out of BG2... damn you... *hate* you...

If you beat Chrono in under 15 hours you skipped half the game some how. Most of the jrpgs from the 90s took 30-50 hours to go through at a NORMAL pace, especially if you spent time level grinding.
