Didn't Ferret, Victor or Melo come to the forums and say a completionist should be able to net well over 20 hours in Awakening?

I just wish they'd hurry up and say something about the new specializations. A really good specialization added to the game would be worth getting the game for, reguardless of length. (at least to me, although I'm probably alone in this). I also am wanting to see who the returning character is, as I honestly can't sit through more of Lelianna. If she returns I'm going to find some way for her to have an "accident". But I could even put up with Leliana for a werewolf themed specialization, or a mage oriented summoning specialization.

Well, lets hope they didn't say that. Complettionists could net over 90 hours in DA:O. Somethings wrong in that picture. :crying:

Well it is an expansion, not sure why you would be expecting anything even remotely close to the original.

As for the comment, cannot find it for some reason. I swear I remember reading a dev state it though. Oh well, maybe I've finally gone  insane, was bound to happen sooner or later.

For $40 I better I have something close to the original. Aren't expansions suppose to expand?

15-20 hours added onto the characters story isn't expanding? Did not know that. But you know you could always look at it this way, the expansion is the one that is reasonably priced and you VASTLY underpaid for the original title. Considering the average SP oriented title is somewhere between 10-15 hours and comes out with the $50/$60 tag model it's not a totally unreasonable way to look at it.

Games companies are losing money because they sell their games for less money every year (the cost of a game has not changed in over 10 years, inflation has made it worth a lot less) and because the games cost more to make.

It seems rather simple to me: if you are not sure if it is worth the money, wait until the expansion has been out for awhile and ask around to those who did get it.

Doesn't stop people from whining and crying over $5.00 as  if that is alot of money anymore.  $5.00 will not even get you popcorn at the movies.

Like I've said before, it's really hard to say how long a game is. I know my playthroughs of Origins were fast for most folks (some forum folks have played it faster). Well below the median. In my playthroughs of Awakening with perfect knowledge of everything (knowing every puzzle, location of widget X, etc) my gameplay length was longer than most single player games I've bought recently. But more importantly, it was full of interesting characters, fun combats, and new places to explore. If you like Origins and want more, Awakening should make you happy.

For each of my playthrough i spent about 25-30 hrs...The first one took me 36hrs, and this is me not doing every possible quest.

Playtime is really subjective, for example i literally finished MW2 in one sitting, it was just that quick, and without multiplayer it wouldn't be enjoyable at all (I also got bored of MP after 2 months) I've logged far more hrs in Dragon Ages.

There's every chance someone could play Awakenings more than they played Origins, i certainly did for Mask of the Betrayer (NWN2 Expansion), and Shivering Isles (Oblivion expansion). Trying to gauge at the amount of hrs in a game is childish, because its going to vary for everyone.

Stats show i've completed 65% of Origins in my one (I didn't do a few Questlines), and i've logged a total of 135hrs across all playthroughs ( I haven't finished my current one and left another in a limbo because hairstyle mods came out =P)

Yet someone else here could just as easily finish the game in 12hrs and put it away for good. To me DAO is a 100hr+ game, to that person its a 12hr game, i certainly know that if Awakenings is anywhere near like Origins in terms of story/dialogue, i'll be logging a fair bit of hrs in it.

What the hell are you talking about?  Spreading false information?  At what point did I start preaching out false information?  I said I didn't believe their claims of getting 15 hours out of Awakening in lieu of the fact that I was told I'd get 80 hours out of Origins, and I could put 3 of my most complete characters together and barely get that.  My opinion, and that's all it is, is that it's very unlikely I will get anywhere near 15 hours in Awakening.  If stating my review if you will of my experience with Origins and how it plays against their claim of 15 hours is spreading false information, then jeeze, burn me on a post, start the witch hunts.

Thing is i got my money's worth, combine my most complete 3 characters and i'll be nearing the 90hrs mark. And i didnt do everything possible in DAO

I think i'll get over 15hrs in Awakening considering i got over 100 in DAO, its what i personally experienced. You ranting on about how sarcasm isn't professional isn't a point at all. The Developers aren't the ones involved with marketing, thats where people are getting annoyed with you, you're barking up the wrong tree in the first place.

You obviously believe the expansion is overpriced, you gave your opinion, you also hoped others would agree with you, some do, most don't. If you're not going to buy it, then why still bother commenting?

Plus JK if you feel it is overpriced why buy it at all? I reserved Awakening an hour after hearing about it & paid it off for the $29.99 price tag it was released at, 6 hours later they raised it to $40. I went back to gamestop & paid the rest. Yesterday I realized(from spending so much time on the forums) I don't want to give Bioware that ability to charge me $10 for no reason & screw me over as a fan. It may not be a big deal to some & that is fine. I don't want to be treated like an idiot with money. There is no excuse for posting a price then changing, no way should there ever be an error in a price posted on a major website that sells tons of games every day. Anyways point being I will wait for reviews & word of mouth on here & even then I doubt I'll get it. I rather not waste my money on a company like Bioware, sadly EA will still get my money b/c I canceled Awakening to put it on Bad Company 2. So I'll be playing Bad Company 2 & AVP instead of wasting my money on a junk game series.

I just don't see the point of ranting on the forums for pages now. I made my decision. I love DA:O it is hands down the BEST game I have honestly ever played BUT I don't want to encourage Bioware to screw over PC fans so I will not buy it. Will that effect sales at all to the point of them being able to tell, no. Nor will others follow I don't expect anyone to but what i do expect is to simply not allow myself to waste money on a over priced product from a company that cheats their fans & can't keep a promise.

Point being JKJEDIKNIGHT, Who cares!!! Just let it go. Wait for the 16th of March, watch read a review what ever then buy it or don't buy it. It is your call but no dev is going to come on here & tell you based on your gameplay habits they can predict how much time you'll get out of Awakening. BC NO1 knows! The devs don't know, no1! It all depends on you. There is no denial or confirmation of 15 hours so for the love of the damn maker get over it!!!

Well I'm a happy bunny having pre-ordered Awakening for the PC from amazon.co.uk for £14.99. At today's exchange rate that's about $22.50 (USD). Even the list price of £19.99 works out at $30. Seems a fair price to me.

No doubt the price will drop further if I wanted to wait. Origins is now selling for £14.99. Complete bargain.

God I hate EA, and I blame them for this (even the devs said it's 100% up to them)

Did you hear what EA most recently decided on? Command and Conquer 4, an RTS game like any other RTS game... only you have to be connected to the internet to play it. Not DA:O connected, but permittivity and always connected. Even when just playing single player.

if I can get 20 hours out of Awakaning without feeling like I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel I'll be happy.

They are probably trying to stop piracy but what they don't realize is people who pirate games do it for free, for fun, small profit, or out of hate for the dev or pub so EA will never have enough idea men & resources nor will any company to bring piracy to a halt without invading our privacy(oh wait they arleady do that with securerom) & losing customers. It will only get worse but not an issue for me b/c I've never liked C7C I know it came out first but compared to Star Craft it just feels generic to me. lol. i do have the beta though just to try, graphics are nice.

Oh totally, the whole reason behind it is stopping piracy, but pirates ALWAYS find a way around what ever trick EA can muster. So in truth their making the people who buy the game jump through hoops where people who pirate it don't.

They are actually really hurting themselves with cheap tricks like these, just go check out the reviews of GOOD games they have on amazon.com... their knocked down to one or two stars simply because of massive securerom complaints.

I know this seems like we're getting off topic, but it all ties into the EA = a Bad Company that makes stupid decisions for their own benefit often at the expense of people who buy their stuff. I have no problem with anyother gaming company, hell, I love blizzard! But EA has managed to screw me over so much that I've just about had it.

With Dragon Age it seems like they charge us just a little too much for everything. I don't recall that last time I've actually felt ripped off.

I actually really disliked most of the ToB I thought it was pretty dissapointing, mostly because the story was completely transparent from the beginning, total length was never an issue. I just hope that expansion provides fun 20 hours or so with a reason to replay it atleast once. Keep making stuff guys!

BTW you cant compare it to other game, DA is single player ONLY game. Prety much anything released these days relys on myltiplayer to extend the playtime

I don't think Origins was worth the price that it was. We payed for graphic above all I believe. Its a fun game at times, but as an RPG of 2009 it really lacks a lot. When it comes to companions ,doing stupid stuff constantly, you always have to pause and play. Not that this is always a bad thing (Baldur's Gate), but the camera angles really don't work that great, making the game very frustrating at times, more often than none.
I could say more, but I do respect BioWare, for their previous RPG games. Graphics make a good game better, but game play and length, is really what out shines the rest. A $40 game for 15 hours, theres a big middle finger of thanks to us gamers.

Can't say I recall which, either, but one of the dev types did ... if that is the case you're looking at 2 bucks per hour of content, not so bad considering the price of a movie these days.  If it turned out to be much less than that it had better be one hell of a ride or I'll change my policy of purchasing Bioware products sight unseen.  So far I've never been let down for doing so, but times change.  I have faith in the company and only hope to see that faith continue to pay off.

And I hope Bioware realizes that its quality up to this point has created a fan base which will gladly buy their games for their involvement alone and don't damage that relationship through bad business practice.
