Why do you need loot? You scan weapons and stuff so that you can research upgrades on the Normandy. I think it's refreshing to see another aproach for once, instead of the usual overload of junk you just sell to merchants anyway. Sure, some more armours would have been nice, especially for the squad mates, but I'll live.

The shooting mechanics suck? What are you comparing to? Not ME1, right? Because that game was not very strong in the combat area.

This game is focused on action because it is an action game with rpg elements. I'd say ME1 had about the same amount of action during the missions, only it was slower paced and felt clumsy and awkward. Also, it took place in repetitive and uninspiring areas.

I like the feel of two, but why do people say ME1 was clunky? Was that how it was on Xbox? PC it was very smooth and a blast with combat.  Although, I really enjoy freezing people in two and shooting their kneecaps out.

I will forver miss throwing off thorian creepers off cliff side as vanguard in one though :x

Most people my self included think the game is better for these fixes, multiple review scores also suggest this-

Bioware would be making a huge mistake if they listen to the very vocal minority who all seem to have gathered here when it comes to "fixes" for ME3

I hated having to pause the action every 30 minutes to turn all the crap i picked up into omni gel most of the items where completely useless or having to spend 15 minutes driving up almost vertical mountain faces to get to some 3 minute side quest

Less grind is a good thing,.. for most people

Yes, maybe they made it better on pc, but on the Xbox it was not very good. First of all, there were serious frame rate drops. If you used singularity on a couple of enemies you could easily drop down to below 10. And the controls felt clunky, don't know how to describe it in another way. The way Shepard moves feels better now. And you had to bring up the powerwheel for every power, which slowed down the pace. I think it's good that it's still possible, but I also like to have my most commonly used powers mapped to hot keys. And I like how the new combat works with biotics and shields, different weapons for different purposes, special abilities for all classes etc. Combat is much more fun in ME2.

agreed completly with the fact that they got ride of most things good about mass effect in favour of combat. me2 was a good game but as far as rpg fans go it just isnt for us anymore

The lack of a loot system is somewhat of a step back(being that this is an RPG and all) but when you think about how broken the loot system was in ME1 it's not such a bad change really. By the end of story in ME1 you got more guns and mods than you knew what to do with and there wasn't much difference between the stats of each gun. Mods were cool but the new system where find em while on missions is more efficient.

One thing i wish for is that you had a chance to find upgrades on bodies which you kill(not the ones that are scattered around the map). Enemies like geth primes or ymir mechs should drop a large amount of resourses aswell as maybe an armor/sheild upgrade.

rofl a GoW clone. You have to be kidding. Its hardly a "action" game considering the amount of extended cut-scenes. You need to replay the game. The cut-scenes are longer than the combat sequences. GoW this game is not.

I thought the action in the first Mass Effect was just fine I liked the way it played on the Xbox and Mass Effect 2 the combat is more intense I thought

Gears of War Clone... thats a new one considering there are loads of 3rd person shooters heck...

If ...

ME:2 ripped of Gears does that mean Gears ripped of Rainbow Six and Rainbow Six ripped off Brothers in Arms and Brothers in Arms ripped of... etc.

:(

I enjoyed thoroughly the inventory system from one, it was perfect for holding the items for the mass-customization.  I think what most people hated was,

#1 Redundacy and tediousness of having to sort and sell all their items.  Which probably could of been easily fixed with some sort functions, auto-update to highest level level mod/ammunition types, maybe a few preset options so you can switch betweens mods mid fight (which you would have to alter real time to take effect) but didn't require you to goto the item menu.  I feel inventory give the game credibility and a sense you're doing something and collecting.   Upgrade system itself I feel is very weak, not useless though, it would be perfect for picking up rare schematics and being able to use the resources to craft/research mods and ammuntion

#2 If you're an role player, you pretty much are used to it, although never always a treat never really a reason to complain, but if you're more into action and thus the 'actionboy,' instead of using your head you'd just rather seemtless shooting.  I'm from both worlds so I'm always conflicted no matter which way they go LOL D:

#3 mods and weapons were kinda linear, the best wasn't too hard to come by, but again that could easily be remedied? Spelling is bad

I believe Biowares goal is to change the direction of the game to a more action oriented game, I believe they call it an Action-RPG not RPG-action.  So although role players are depressed about the decision can't see Bioware being upset with it.  We're at fault for being ignorant to the game genre ;)

it seemed like the orignal game for xbox people were expecting something close to halo. you dindt get it so you cried.

in ME2 pc gamers were expecting bioware to make  a great game that fixed the complaints.

we got a halo/gears game with slight rpg elements.

so yeah pretty much to different groups ****ing about different things. i never complained about the first one i enjoyed it and figured if the fixed some things it would be beter. they axed them instead and went after the larger shooter based console players.

this pissed  off alot of long time bioware fans but they made their money by getting the shooter kids to buy it so they are happy.

what do you expect poeple to do?

right on man/ agreed.

Just a note: designers don't make changes for multi-million dollar projects based solely on people who complain on forums. There is actual market research involve, which is an actual field of study that does take into account things such as the most vocal people tending to be the displeased one.

The changes made were surely not simply in response of the vocal few who complained, but the result of careful study and a conscious decision to move the franchise further towards the "action" side of the "action-RPG" genre.

Given the sales, it looks like the move paid off. I for one feel that they did not compromise the RPG aspects too much, and that overall the fun factor of the game was significantly improved (despite being an ardent hardcore RPG fan from the BG1 days... I feel that this is the better balance, though I do prefer Dragon Age as an RPG, for example),

Thank you.

your right the study was waht do people play more of?
RPG

which will make more money?

its really that simple. the targeted a new fan base but tried to appease the old fan base by keeping some choices. its just not working for everyone

Hey I like Cyro ammo, despite its ineffectiveness on whatever difficulty you play on, always very fun to shatter enemies, in my opinion ;)

Sad to find out sniper headshots didn't freeze enemies without shields, but makes sense :P

Not going to read the entire thread, but I like the direction this game went into. I am not impressed that on normal mode, the levels only take about 30 minutes to complete.... I was just havin' fun blastin' ****, then dialogue pops up, blastin' ****, mission over. Sigh.
