I have to agree. I can see Q 1 in 2012 more likely.

I want a 2012 release and the game to take a minimum of 40 hours to play through but have the potential to take 100 if you do everything.  I mean this is the end of a trilogy, need to go out with a bang.

Remember: TOR is supposed to release early 2011. There's no way ME3 gets released within 6 months of that.  So holiday 2011 looks doable as long as TOR doesn't get pushed back too much, or just early the next year as ME2 itself.

Bear in mind Dragon Age is on the sequel track as well and I imagine that will take around two years to do.

I hope ME 3 comes out earlier, especially because it seems the ME 2 to 3 transition is going to be nearly seamless.  There probably won't be, story wise, a large gap of time between them and technology wise I imagine the graphics engine is probably going to stay the same.

Yep I totaly forgot about DA .

Tbh I wouldn't complain that they release ME3 even in Q1 2013 , my only wish is to make it epic ( not to rush things and ruin the story ) , because last sequal of this game really deserve to be epic .

They wait too long though and people start losing their save games for various reasons.  PC Gamers upgrade, console gamers delete them or whatever, etc etc.  The longer they wait, the less chance for a seamless continuity between ME 2 and 3.

I hope ME3 won't have the same "unpolished" quality that DOA, ME2 and to a lesser extent ME1 had. This means no half-assed pc port without high resolution textures, terrible unupdated character customization, scrapped talent/ability trees, lazy models and bugs. It would be nice to have a longer game with more and better sidequest, both shooter and RPG features (focusing more on combat shouldn't mean that they had to disband inventory, exploration and severely restrict itemization.)

Hope Bioware will take the stuff they are good at, such as (now) combat (with exceptions in limited abilities, global cooldown etc), voice-actors and characters and environment, and try to be less sloppy with graphics and models, as well as bringing back items and the RPG aspects with a better, revamped loot system and more progression.

ME3 is going to use the same engine as ME2 so it will take much less time. They also have the lore fleshed out as well as the combat system. All they really need to do is get the dialogue recorded and finish up all the mechanics they planned to put into ME2 but were forced to leave on the whiteboard because of money and time contraints.

If they do their job like Bioware used to, they will be able to make a fantastic finale to this trilogy in a year given the work they have already done.

This is also another symptom of the EA development model though. EA made billions rehashing the same engine over and over making new games out of it every year with little to no modification or innovation.

I'm hoping Bioware will counter that EA "somethin out of nothing" development model with Epicness. But we'll see. I don't think anyone who worked on the original Mass Effect (in a meaningful manner) even still works for Bioware. ME3 could end up being a cloned piece of crap copy of ME2. So not gonna hold the breath. But I'll sacrifice a chicken and pray to the dark lord for us.

What if all of what they are doing for ME3 is making the game completely with what you've played throughout the story?

Like there is not a 'their' story but only a player story and the whole game is just reactions to what you have done in the first two and how that plays out for the third?

Wouldn't that make everyone happy ;) ;)

How much influence will EA have on decisions like these? Surely they would want an established game franchise to sell more titles more often.

But won't Bioware have their hands full with things like DLC for ME2 and Dragon Age, the old republic and Dragon Age 2. Was there anything behind the rumours of Jade Empire 2?

I alwasy just hope a game is released when it is ready. I find it irritating wheere rush jobs need DLC to fill in the holes (check out Assassins Creed 2). Or when a game needs a critical patch on release day.

I'll play ME3 when its out and hopefully that'll be when its at its best.

It will be sometime in 2011 for sure. Christmas 2011 would be just a couple months shy of the delay between ME1 and ME2, and they've already stated they're happy for the most part with the new graphics engine and internal building mechanisms.

My guess is target is set for Q1 2011 and will be delayed to Q2 or Q3. If they decide to really pull out all the stops I could see a 2011 Christmas targeted release.

There's been no public date or commitment at all yet that I'm aware of; any press comments to the contrary are either hinting at internal deadlines in off the record conversations or pure guesses.

I can't imagine a release date any earlier than the very very end of 2011- and that really is pushing it based on the time ME2 took.

Agree , but hey no pain no gain . I think even if they wait longer with good marketing , people who deleted ME series or need upgrade , will buy new upgrades or play again ME series.

Release in 2011 is almost 90% impossible imo of course . Don't forget that in Q2-3 they will be releasing MMO SWTOR , and they work on SWTOR from Decembre 2005 , so theirs attention in 2011 will be mostly on SWTOR.

Imo we can expect ME and DA releases earliest in 2012  .

That would almost be exactly the amount of time ME 2 took to develop.

I think everything that has been hinted at makes it seem its going to be a fairly conventional two year release schedule.  That means Nov-Dec 2011 or, like this year, Jan-Feb 2012.

Will probably be same dev time as this one. But they have less to improve this time (graphics, combat, performance), but more to tweak (stats, powers, loot).

They have a greedy corporation breathing down their necks, not the best attitude for getting a job done.

Bioware's track record allows them a bit of Leeway with the Evil Empire. I'd think a 2 million copy 1st day of Sale on ME2  will allow that with ME3

We all know that ME3 has already been set for 2011, but I must admit I have concerns about this.  I feel that BW might be trying to rush themselves with the development of ME3 since there was an almost 3 year development time between the first and second ME.  I don't want BW to rush their development on ME3 and release something that is nothing short of a brilliant end to the trilogy.  As much as I'm already dying for it to come out, I can wait.  The wait for ME2 was well worth it and I want ME3 to be the same.

Does anyone else share these concerns?  And thoughts if you do?

You know that Dr. Ray and Dr. Greg will not let this Opus Rex of a game go out the door without some very close scrutiny.  I am sure they love this as much as we do.

You don't put this much effort into character development, casting and great musical score into the next super mario bros 9.5.

Their commitment to producing oustanding products like this makes me seflishly happy that they chose this path instead of practicing medicine. (well in pinch I'd probably let them take care of that pesky gall bladder tho).

I can't remember where, but I distinctly remember someone saying sometime in the last couple weeks that Bioware was hoping to release ME3 about a year after ME2 depending on fan-reaction to ME2 and how much they would have change between the games. I think I read that in either a review, a preview, or an official blog, but I can't remember where for the life of me.

They are using the exact same engine from ME2. They are using the same models from ME2. They are using the same locations from ME2. All they have to do is design new missions, worlds; and record a bunch of diologue. They got the hard stuff done already. Coming out in 2011 would not negatively impact the game IMO. more time would make it more epic, but there are only so many dvds that it can fit on, i think they will fill up two or three by 2011 already.

It's logical to see it won't take as long to develop ME3. They even said this themselves. They said the graphics engine is already where they want it, they don't want to take as long as the wait between ME1 and ME2, and Casey Hudson said they also don't have to worry about continuity into a next game. No more branching paths or decisions, it all culminates and ends in ME3, so it won't take anywhere NEAR as long as the first two to finish.

I'm guess a Q2 or Q3 2011 release.

I'd rather them release a ten disc game in 2020 than a one disc game in 2011. My favorite series of videogames, and any possible shortcomings should be adressed. If they can do that in less than two years, fine by me. But please, for the love of all these fans, don't screw this up.

Absolutely no concerns at all with ME3 in two years.

The big problem they had after doing ME1 is that they knew the combat was clunky and graphics were so so (character textures were good, but the rest of the world was so... sterile... even for story planets).

In ME2, they had to redevelop the battle aspect of gameplay, which turned out to be quite spectacular, on par with a good shooter. They had to improve their graphic engine and art direction, which they did. The city planets look awesome, the exteriors and interiors in N7 missions look awesome... you get my drift.

So all they got to do now is work on content. They will do some engine tweaks and gameplay improvements for sure, but the large part of the work is done...

I'd rather have to instal 5 disks and buy a 120gig HDD just for ME3 than play another episodic rendition of the ME universe.  I want EPICNESS.  Not a bunch of cloned missions and a thin plot with no branching story arcs...

I actually believe that it will come out in late 2011 or early 2012 at the latest. It doesn't have to compete against TOR, it's a different market, an MMO player will get a single player game too there's no reason to delay ME just because of TOR won't even scratch either launch.

It makes complete sense for them to release ME3 sooner then they did with ME2, if they want people who own both prior titles they can't make the last game go through another graphical overhaul or many won't have the computers to run it and the 360 won't change either.

So same graphics as ME2 check.
Characters are already fleshed out, probably already have the writers working their butts off, check.
Combat is refined, there may be a few tweaks but I don't expect anything drastic from ME2, check.

If that's all true, ME3 has already been in development before they put the final touches on ME2, and if only minor tweaks need to be done to the gameplay and they have 20 odd months to out in content, as a veteran RPG developer I think we can expect to be in for one heck of a final long ride.

  In conclusion I'm not even slightly worried.

I read somewhere that they are trying to do make ME3 as fast as they can before the new generation of consoles come. And hoping for Q4 2011 release ofc :D

If you really want to know when ME 3 is coming out, become friends with Martin Sheen or Seth Green and find out when they are doing the voiceovers. That means the graphic situations are done...
