I'd hate to be the writer who has to come up with a scientific explanation of magic, the fade and darkspawn

to the people of thedis, mass effect technology would seem like magic. and the aliens to be as gods. it has been alluded that sten's people are not native to thedis. several globes appear even in ancient ruins showing the planet thedis and its moon. He Man and the Masters of the Universe combined technology and ancient weapons. several other sci fi films and books have done so also. Star Wars is a good example also. The hero uses a sword in a age where most used laser guns. magic can be explained scientifically as the manipulation of dark energy so in this sense mages are not that different from biotics. it would also give thedes a ancient astronaut mythos. that the mages refered to in the opening narration that gave rise to the dark spawn were biotics So, is dragon age and mass efect in the same universe? i say yes they are

Why does there have to be any conncection between the two? Yes Bioware created BOTH but that doesn't mean you have to connect them. Frankly it would harm BOTH of them if you did IMHO. Also, any easter eggs you may claim to find, may have been placed there for those that played both series OR you simply could be reaching for a connection that simply doesn't exist.
Example, a user in the DA:O thread thought he found an easter egg by linking Lothering to Lord of the Rings, which was shot down by the writer shortly after. Its not uncommon to make connections that don't exist when you really want one to exist.

It's much easier to say Thedas is part of the Prime Material Plane than Mass Effect in the mythic past.
