I bought through Steam. Absolutely none of the solutions work. I bought this game and i will not play it unless I can continue with my character. The import just creates an empty ME1 folder. Is there no definite fix for this? Copying the files there also does not work.

The problem seems to be that I do not have a char_******* format file. I do however have a "Profile.MassEffectProfile" format file. Can I not import this? If I don't have a char_ file, do I have to reinstall ME1 and finish it again?

Whenever I run the config thing, setting it to ((Username))->My documents->bioware->Save->ME1, the window disappears without doing anything. Please help.

That is, the "find save files" window, rather than the config app

@Mal0311: Did you try the method mentioned in the second post of this forum at all? You obviously havent read this thread, otherwise you would know that copying the folder from one game to the other doesnt work.
@Lord12135: Ranting wont help. These are user to user support forums. Save the rants for EA, as they are paid to put up with that, we arent.Did you still have ME1 installed, and tried the import facility, or did you have the save game files somewhere on disk/cd/usb stick and tried to copy them into the ME2 folders? Did you finish the game with those characters you want to impotr, or did you stop playing part way through, expecting that to import thath character and have all relevant decisions made for you?

Just sorted it out for myself, like many here no utility is available (ME1 and ME2 both installed on steam) so simply went to ME1 \\Save\\ directory in MyDocuments etc., then created \\Save\\ME1\\ in ME2 directory in MyDocuments, and copied my save game file there (that will be the one created by the game after you finish ME1). Then the profile is available when choosing "import ME1" character in ME2. Hope this helps!

I've had the exact same problem, couldn't find the save file despite just completing Mass Effect 1. I remember that I initially had problems with running ME 1 so had to run as an administrator (separate login account) on my Win7 64 bit system. The save file was in the same path as above but separate user account.

That's because the save folder is among your local files, not the game files.
You should find your savegames under "My Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save"

"documents and settings\\\\your account name\\\\my documents\\\\bioware\\\\mass effect\\\\save folder"
could also be something like this: "My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect\\\\Save"
IMPORTING
Having trouble importing your Mass Effect saved games into Mass Effect 2? Here is some information to help.
In order to import your saved games from Mass Effect, you need to run Mass Effect 2 through its launcher and click the Configure button.
The Steam version of ME2 initially defaulted to running the
ME2 executable directly, bypassing the launcher altogether, although has
since been corrected. Regardless, you must still run the ME2 launcher first to import your save games.
To run the ME2 Launcher:
From the My Games list in the Steam Client:

I'm having a rather "strange" issue importing my character from ME1.
The character shows up in the appropriate screen, so I can highlight my ME1 character and even click the import character button. The problem is, when I hit the button, nothing happens. I've had this problem with a few of the buttons. Not sure what that's all about.
Any ideas?

Did you use the import facility in the configuration utility, or just copy/paste the folder?
If copy/paste, read this thread to find out how to do it.
If used impotr facility, then ost your system specs in accordance with the "Read First" thread, and we might be able to locate the problem. Until then, we can only guess.

1. Game Version Information
ME2.exe v1.00
launcher.exe v1.01
config.exe v1.03
uninstall.exe v1.03
Physical disk, purchased at GameStop
2. System Details
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor / 2210 MHz / 2.99 GB
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT / 256 MB / 175.45
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) / 6.0.1.5657
Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium Service Pack 1 (6.0.6001)
DirectX 10.0 (Mar2009) or later
The Nature of My Problem:
1. I select "New Game," "Import ME1 Character," and find my character available for selection, however, when I select the character and click the "Import Character" button, the interface responds, but nothing happens. The game doesn't freeze, it just does nothing -- no new game.
2. The problem has persisted since I started playing the game. My ME1 is a steam version, while my ME2 is disk/retail. Getting the files to import was a pain, but I got it to work. I can't remember if that meant moving the files or not, but I know I used the configuration utility's import function.
3. The problem occurs in the New Game: Import ME1 Character screen.
4. Unsure
5. My game remains unmodified. I have legally downloaded the blood dragon armor file and used it in-game, but that's it. No other modifications.

You are running an unpatched version of the game, and you dont have the appropriate version of DirectX.
Patch: http://social.biowar...age/me2-patches
DirectX: Install DX9.0c that came with the disk. ME2 specifically requires that version. DX10 or later are not backwards compatible enough for ME2's requirements.
