What the Quarians look like underneath those suits... (Contains busted science)

After extended analysis, and some really smart comments, I have realised that my 'Science' is actually rather crap, but enjoy the thread anyway, it seems to be pretty damn popular.

I never considered Biology a true Science anyway....

The Quarian's are an interesting lot, and never taking off those suits, it increases our curiosity towards them; and with what many are calling the "Talimance" possible, it's time for us to expose what they look like, using scientific factors.

The Basics

In Mass Effect Ascension, we are told the basic physiology of the Quarians, and in that sense they are remarkable similar to Humans and Asari, having lips, teeth, an endoskeleton, noses, eyes, and tearducts. Their reproductive systems are similar to ours both genders having genitalia, as Mass Effect 2 shows in the fact Quarian sex is possible, and done (Judging by their ability to engage in sex in humans) in a similar manner to human sex, showing that they have penises and vaginas.

Quarian biology is based on dextro-amino acids, as of this they cannot subsist on the same foods as all other species, apart from Turians; this does not have an effect on their appearance, contrary
to many beliefs.

The Quarian immune system is probably the worst in any known sapient species, as the Quarians originated from a homeworld where pathogens were a rarity, there was no need. Add this with their adaptation to sterile environments over the past 300 years, and we have a haystack against a blaze when it comes to disease.

Quarians are mammals, as they possess breasts and gestational reproduction.

Skin

The skin of Quarians is shielded from UV rays both by restriction to ships and their suits; this means that they will have no melanin in their skin. Melanin is the reason for colour in humans, and it is almost independent
of genes. It is the melanin concentration of the parents which determines the child’s skin colour, which is why an interracial couple will generate a “Hybrid child”. Quarians, having no need for melanin, will no longer have skin colours of a darker shade than a very pale white.

Hair

As mammals, and most likely primates, Quarians will most likely have hair on the top of their heads in a similar way to humans, although one can’t say whether or not they have facial hair. This hair will probably be short or shaved, as long hair may affect the machinery within the Quarian’s helmets or block their view.

Humans tend to be attracted to certain types of hair colour, blonde generally being the highest craved. Quarians possess no knowledge of hair colour, and as of such make reproductive decisions based on other factors, as of such his will probably result in a much smaller variety of hair colours than humans, there will probably be one or two hair colours amongst Quarians, although what they could be is unknown (I would guess brown or black,
but that’s a personal and unfounded guess).

Eyes

The visors of the Quarian’s helmets act in a similar manner to sunglasses, enabling Quarians to see the outside world, but giving others a limited view of them. However the eyes are clearly visible on a Quarian through the mask, indicating they are a source of light. This makes two suggestions:

-The Quarians have light-emitting eyes, a product of evolution.

-Quarian eyes are cybernetically upgraded.

Whatever the reason, Quarians definitely have light emitting eyes.

Resources

This image was used by the Mass Effect 1 designers, it is likely this is not what the Quarians look like, it was likely made to assist in the modelling procedure. But it does accurately indicates the aforementioned similarities to humans, although it is basic, to say the least.

EDIT: The below picture is a placeholder, or it may be some fan's piece of 3D modelling artwork, either ay, it serves it's point.

That concept art was probably of Tali. She looks ugly.

It probably was, but it probably isn't what she looks like. I think it was purely for 3D modelling purposes.

I've been keeping tabs on anything that might look Quarian in the group, I have links provided in the discussion thread to a video of what Quarians may look like. No need to White Knight the thread, you can simply ignore my post or look.

Hopefully that's just placeholder.  That model looks creepy.  Tali needs to be cute.

I'm pretty sure that render was made AFTER ME1 as a practice project for someone, I've seen the portfolio before.

very well done. that is a very realistic way of picturing quarians. and unbiased to, which is suprising on an internet forum. not over sexy, not overly ugly, just different.

On a personal note, seeing them so human like is a turn off

Good point, I'll add a tag to it.

Why exactly do people think she would be attractive physically? She's spent her entire life in a suit, if Quarians have hair, it's probobly all tangled and filthy and nappy, her skin and teeth are not even poorly cared for, they are most likely completely neglected and disgusting. The best you could hope for is average looking by human standards.

Well because there suits Quarians don't have any bacteria, fungi, virus inside them, so technically speaking they should be clean as a whistle but once the suit is open from the book Ascension they rapidly grow fungi. And like what the butthurt OP said, they ether have no hair or barely any.

Riiight, because they don't shower?.. They do take off their suits in clean rooms, you know.

That model reminds me of some reconstruction of Egyptian Pharaoh heads. Seen it before, certain that it's not official.

You should take a look at the helmets that the Quarians wear.  The females all have hoods.  But the males don't.  And during Tali's loyalty quest, you can get a look at a lot of male helmets.  In at least a few cases, you can see what appear to be decorative tassels of some sort (somewhat similar to dreadlocks) on the back of the helmets.  If I had to hazard a guess, this is meant to be somewhat evocative of whatever it is that Quarians have growing out of their scalp.

Also note that while Quarians appear to have certain mammalian traits, that doesn't preclude something like having scaly skin or feathers.  In fact, Grunt (I think it's him) explicitly describes Quarians as not being "soft" during an early conversation in which he's comparing the various races (and how easy it is to cripple them).  It's possible that this is a reference to the environmental suits that they always wear.  But it's also possible that there's something natively tougher about the Quarian physiology and Grunt is referring to this.

Edit - As far as skin care is concerned, I would guess that certain functions would automatically be built into the suits.  If you spend your entire life in one of them, then one of the most obvious things to include would be automated devices that assisted with basic hygiene.

What dreadlocks? The things hanging behind him are tubes and electronical wiring.

On at least a handful of them seen within the game, a few of those cables appear to be placed more loosely than the others.  The obvious inference is that it's a stylistic choice on the part of the suit wearer.

What if they are actually hiding an appendage? Like the Twi'lek tails... Surprise-surprise.

Not that anyone would mind, I'm sure.

The female Quarians' headdresses are clearly meant to be evocative of hair. Likewise for the male Quarians' cable dreads.

I believe that Tali would have a cute, skinny face. Light purple skin and dark purple freckless under her eyes and on her nose. :D oh and medium-long black hair.

I can't help but think the one council member, the one who surprised Tali by not tell her that her father was presumed dead when she was on the post/council table? That her eyes were oddly larger. I always though because of her age maybe Quarian eyes get bigger?

Well anyway she looked like this to me, lacking the neck, majority the eyes are what connected for me. I'll try and find a image of her were you can see her eyes clearly

Grunt was refering to the spieces in combat. So, without a dout, he was refering to them in their suits, as I seriously dout Okeer has ever fought an unsuited quarian. Who knows, Okeer may have never fought anything other then a battle hardened migraint marine. And it was a fairly odd statment, as it seems everyone else in the galaxy finds them fragile. And, didn't he actually gernerize that humans where the most fraile species, not the salarians?

Though, if anyone has the ME1 CE art books, there was a drawing of Tali in the concept are with the visor off. Though it was just a scetch, it could bejust  an idea, or it could be one of many of the head sceaches throught the book.
