So basically they could have stuck it out when they started the Flotilla and had high casualties, but have a chance at adapting, or save as many people as possible and be stuck in enviro-suits for an indeterminable amount of time. Tough choice.

Its also safe to assume that quarians don't have a real adaptive immune system. Most other races including humans have colonised worlds with ease. Tali comments that even their own planet in the short time they have been gone has become hostile to them, but going home as opposed to recolonizing would be the differance between 60 years and 600 years to fully adapt. That was also one of the purposes of the geth, to work on planets thet they couldn't colonize, or would take a long time to adapt to.

Their species, like the Drell and Krogan, are on the endangered species lists unless something drastic happens. Unfortunately for the Quarians, their evolutionary track has hindered them rather than helping them to survive. =(

According to some random blerp on Illium, with biotics and cybernetics it is possible to help a quarian adapt without need for an exo-suit, of course it was a random blerp about quarian and volus, with a 40% success rate.

For some people that a worthy risk to get such a basic freedom back.

There's no face mesh for the lower half, it stops at the upper lip. The Face mesh is part of the helmet.

I can't see Quarians looking anything like humans outside of their faces. They've got bird legs and 3 "fingered" hands.  Besides, the ME universe already has an attractive, near-human in appearance species.

I picture the quarians to have a longish slender face, kind of like a chimp or a gorilla. And with a longish nose.

I have no idea where people are getting the "Quarians have no ears" idea.

The book makes mention of the "Quarian equivalent of an ear"... that means they have ears, just not "normal" looking ones. That could be holes in the head, bumps, vulcan space elf ears, or something else quite alien.

The book Ascension goes to tell you Quarians do not have ear like we do or like elves if I remember right to quote the book "A cut ran up from one lip to the quarian equivalent of an ear" So yes they do have ears persay but there nothing like are, most likely like the rest of the races a small hole in the head.

Anything that look close to are kind of ear would just be called a ear when you go into "equivalent" is when you start going into the more off the wall style for all we know it a tube.

You never know with writers, maybe he just wanted to put a lil of flourish in his writing and "equivalent" is a good word for that purpose. It could be a differently shaped ear, a fin, a tube, an antenna, an hole... that description can pretty much be interpreted as anything you want.

I've had that book laying around for awhile now.  I should probably read it.
