I had 3 play sessions with DA, and all 3 times after quitting out from the game into my desktop, everything freezes! I had to do manual shut-down (basically holding my power button until the system switches off.)
Anyone else had this problem?

All the time.... it's getting very annoying. There's tons of posts like this on the site moxxdaminotaur.
I've tried the 1.01B patch. I'm going to try the new nvidia BETA drivers to see if that does the trick. I've tried setting the CPU affinity and running the game in windowed mode, heck even bought a different soundcard. Still the same problem... not a great start.
intel Quad Core 2.83 Ghz
Asus P5N72-T premium mobo
4 GB DDR2 ram
Win 7 Ultimate 64bit
BFG nVdia GTX280 o/c
Creative Xfi Xtremegamer soundcard (also had a ROG SoundmaxII riser card)

Nikla, nice specs.
Moxx, does this happen to other games? Do you run other larger applications at the same time when running DAO? Have you tried updating the gfx card drivers?

i'm having the same problem, only it happens in-game and it seems to be totally random. The game just freezes and the sound plays like a broken record, looping the last few milliseconds.
I've tried using Alt+F4 and Ctrl+Alt+Del to exit the game but it wont work and i end up just ressetting my computer.
First i thought it was my graphics card as I bought it as a "temporary" component. but it doesnt give any problems with other games i run and I've got the latest drivers installed. Reading all these comments I'm afraid its just a bug in the game and out of my hands
.
I hope they fix this soon as its really annoying to have to reset the system every 10 to 20 minutes.
If anyone has any ideas please post them. (if more specs are needed to locate the problem please let me know)

Nope just DAO. All other applications, games, etc... don't cause my systme to freeze the way DAO does. Although it seems to be occurring less for whatever reason, it still happens. Especially if I've played for more than 2 hours.

It's good to hear that I am not the only one having this problem, but the only question now is...
How in heavens name can we fix it?

Again, I'm just grasping at straws here as I haven't had this issue with DA:O, but I had something similar with other programs in the past.
I had issues with X-Fi causing sound-intensive games to freak out and freeze the system. Went to a USB connection to Roland SonicCell and never had another issue again. Vista and higher severely changed the way audio works, essentially removing direct hardware access with DirectX. There are OpenGL wrappers that try to circumvent this issue, but they only made the issues worse for me.
I would check to make sure all drivers are up-to-date.

Could be the soundcard I guess, too bad i won't be able to test it without a replacement.
I downloaded speedfan though, which is a handy little program that keeps track of system temperatures and voltages in real time. It also automatically adjusts your fan speed.
When i ran it the other day, it showd that my CPU core temps were all around 30C (I thinking roughly 86F). When i played DOA however, the temps went up real bad, reaching too about 60C ( or 156F ). I don't know how high the temp is when it craches yet, but I can imagine that it would be even higher. If I find the time, I'll install a better CPU-fan and I'll make some improvements. I don't know if this is the answer but it's worth a shot. If it works you'll be the first to know
