For me Mass Effect can be online only here on forums...eventually optional multiplayer in game but I can't see it to be possible neither I want to see it possible. Mmos just sux...try play them 6 years if you haven't...there is nothing so stupid and shallow like mmo.

I'm fine with just SP but just gonna throw this out there....what if Bioware let another developer handle the multiplayer aspect of an ME game?
I believe that's what happened with Bioshock 2(Digital Extremes handled multiplayer). This way Bioware can perfect the SP portion of the game while some other studio(maybe Epic Games as gears handles similarly to ME2) handles MP(and hopefully takes good care of it).
Edit:Just saw someone else posted before me about Bioshock 2 .

Having another company handle some sort of co-op would be fine, but full multiplayer with classes would require constant tweaking. Anyone who has seen the TF2 forums or even threads regarding Vanguards as being entirely useless would know that some people will complain over the most minor annoyance.

As for the MMO issue, this is Bioware we're talking about. WoW was made by Everquest players wanting to make a game similar but better. If you look at the effort they put into the Old Republic, is it so hard to picture a Good Mass Effect MMO? With this as it's roots it's unlikely that it'd be your typical point and click grindfest.

On an unrelated mote: Thoughts on an RTS based on Mass Effect universe? Command Alliance troops during First Encounter War? Take part in Rachni Wars? Or maybe something as small as leading a unit during Geth Invasion of Eden Prime?

Yes, but the one before you was a troll who gave no real info. Your post was actually helpful. I admit I haven't followed Bioshock 2's development process. I don't have time to keep up with gaming news 24/7 and, frankly, I have other things to do with my life, so I find this info interesting. I'll watch for Bioshock 2 and see if it is worth buying.

With the "recent" leak of TES V being an MMO I've now had one of my favorite RPG series ruined by online play, I really don't need another.

In short:
No.

No. Heck no. Nope. Nyet. Nein. Non. Ie. Huwag po kuya. *insert other word for 'NO' here* :D

Some games are best as single-player experiences (probably coz' they were DESIGNED that way).

Would the ME setting lend itself well to an MMO? I dunno, maybe...then again, one way or another, one could argue that any setting could 'work' as an MMO IF the game were to be designed around that concept. Would I like/want an ME MMO? NO. Give EVE Online it's ground component, and that's good enough for me (Dust 514 looks quite promising).

Absolutely NOT. ME is a great single player experience, and let's keep it just like that, please. You MMORPG junkies have enough fine games to chose from. LEAVE. MY. MASS EFFECT. ALONE.

I'm going to pipe in here and tell you the same thing I tell my wife when she wants sex: No! Absolutely not, now go make me a sandwhich!

Singleplayer games have the fortunate position of not having to endlessly balance everything. Look at the patch notes for any major multiplayer game or MMO. Each time there are countless little changes to skills, weapons and armor because some tool found a way to exploit something. And developers spends ages correcting all those little things. And each time they change something, they have to go back and look at 50 other things that are connected to the first thing they changed. It's hell.

Then there will be a demand for more multiplayer levels, dedicated servers, tournaments and whatnot. And each of those things take time and money away from DLC, patches and ME3. Do you really want to sacrifice the Hammerhead for multiplayer? Or additional missions? Armor? companions? I won't. There are plenty of multiplayer games out there. Leave the good RPGs in singleplayer territory. It's bad enough that they are making the KOTOR MMO. And Fallout. Next they'll probably anounce that they're making a Planescape: Torment MMO,.

Please no. Mass effect is only really worth playing for its story, enviroment, and characters. Making it only would ruin all of those.

Agreed. Nothing kills immersion more than putting up with a bunch of jackasses who act as if they just discovered curse words and must share this new and exciting revelation with everyone they see.

Quoted and fully approved!

NEVER!

NO WAY. One of the things that make Mass Effect an interesting and phenomenal game is the amazing storyline which MMORPG's simply do not have. (And even if they do, they fail at it)

In short, NO.

You know, online game play would keep the dumbhass players off the forums, and they could all brag online about their barb wire tattoos and Ed Hardy shirts.

No, because "they" know how to use a forum(sort of), and then We'd be inundated with that detritus, along with what we get to endure now!

At first I thought Mass Effect would be a great idea online, but then I really thought about it. MMORPG's is not really Biowares thing I would really hate to see such a great franchise go down the tubes because someone did not take the time to do it the right way.

What would be the benefit, well tons of benefits if done correctly however it would be competeing agianst another Bioware project and two bigs kids on the playground are going to fight. Sooner or later one of the two will suffer from having resources from one being siphoned to the other. It usually works out this way.

What would the negatives be well first off most people who enjoy FPS ( most not all) do not get enjoy MMORPG's  can you imagine the number of people who would ditch the franchise because they feel Bioware has sold them out on what they see as a certain genre?

But what I would like to see on this thread and I have no right to ask this is if you are gonna say fail or something like that please give a reason I really enjoy seeing peoples  reason as to why they think this.
