I just got the game today and I am already stuck... literally. I am just past the part where you get the grenade launcher and you blow up the mechs that walk through the doors. ( wish i could be more descriptive of it, but i have no clue what is going on) I saw that there was some ammo on the ground, so i walked up to it, automatically picking it up, only to find that now, John Shepard, is standing on the railing nearby. I laughed a little before i realized that i couldn't get down... Not down to the floor below, nor back to where i came from. John is stuck on a railing. I don't really know what to do aside from restart, and i spent a long time on customizing John's face... so restarting would be a real bother, also considering that you cannot skip any of the opening videos/dialogue...
Anyways, I am not exactly sure what to do, i am open to suggestions on how to remedy this anomaly, and if nothing else, I hope to have brought this to everyone's attention.

It's happened to me a couple times. Be prepared to have that happen now and then. As far as I'm aware, your only recourse is to load a saved game. For this reason I make frequent hard saves (whenever I think something important is about to transpire or after important events), and quick save every few minutes.

Again the same thing has happened to me multiple times. As I type, Shepherd is right now levitating by a rock. I really hope they bring out a patch to fix these issues soon as it is really starting to ruin the game with all the reloading I'm having to do. Apart from that I feel I have been lucky that there don't seem to be any other major bugs or glitches. In comparison Mass Effect 1 was practically unplayable with all the bugs that one had on the initial PC release!

If you are able to run (hold space), this should get you down on the groudn again, have worked quiet a few times for me.

If you're a Vanguard and you see an enemy, you can try to use charge on them. I was saved couple times by it :-)
Have the same problem too( I really don't like it. Is there any ways to avoid or heal it?

I have the same issue:

Oh, and sometimes when you get stuck (like at the top of a tree), nothing will get you down. You just have to load an earler save.

I was stuck in open air at the lost wrecked freighter, near main frame.
Stuck on top of a table in the mercs trying to take over a freighter mission.
Was stuck 10 feet up in air either in a mine, or going for Grunt on some stairs.
Stuck on scenery block on New Horizon.
These are all that I can remember off the top of my head.

Some of mine were stuck at the top of a palm tree near the end of Jacob's loyalty mission. Stuck in a wall on Illum during the mission to recruit Thane. Stuck on the roof during Miranda's loyalty mission.

To the OP, that early in the game there should be a quick save just as you are waking up. So you shouldn't have to redo a character.

It's a common issue we're all dealing with until they fix it among the many other glitches and issues.
As a work around for in-game you ca do the following:in the Coalesced.ini file and then rebuild the file.
[SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault]
Bindings=( Name="Add", Command="Ghost" )
Bindings=( Name="Subtract", Command="Walk" )
With these bindings correctly entered in the right place, which is in the [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault] section of the embedded file ../BIOGame/Config/PC/Cooked/BIOInput.ini file (slashes reversed as the forum will append to infinity on copies) you can then do the following:
When in the game, if you press the + key (Add) on the numpad you will go into ghost (noclip) mode and can strafe your way horizontally through objects to get yourself un-stuck. Once out of the problem area press the - (Subtract) key to return to normal mode.
Currently this is the fastest known method of escaping the dreaded bounding errors instantly that doesn't involve a reload.
You can use Notepad++ to perfom this action on the file and then use an editor or other tools to rebuild the file after making the changes. The beta editor can be found here: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/834703
UPDATED:
This can be done with a single keypress as follows:
Bindings=( Name="Add", Command="Ghost | OnRelease Walk")
Holding the key turns on noclip. Releasing the key turns it off.

So it's been about 8 months now (according to the original post) and I just experienced this problem a few minutes ago and have been experiencing it like crazy. Is this going to get a fix, ever?

Yeah me too.
Loading the Update fixed it before the Overlord and LoTSB DLC came out.

I am sure I'm doing this correctly. In the [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault] section of the Coalesced.ini file, I paste the following code:
Bindings=( Name="Add", Command="Ghost | OnRelease Walk")
I also tried the previous fix Iron spine suggested, neither of them work, the game either wont launch or launches but the + key doesn't execute the ghost command. Has anyone else found a fix that works?
Okay sorry I was wrong, I neglected to rebuild the file upon editing, thank you very much for this fix! And to anyone attempting it make sure you REBUILD THE FILE AFTER EDITING! Download ME2 fixer I think its in Iron Spike's link.
