What does the gravestone in the Brecilian Forest do?  When I examine it, nothing happens.

Also, there is another item to examine near it, and when I did a black cloud passed by on the ground but I didn't see any effect from it.  Is that the "Mages Treasure" referenced in the strategy guide?

The "black cloud" is from activating one of the Places of Power, a Mage's Collective quest. The other places are in Denerim, the Deep Roads, and the Mages Circle.

The tombstone is part of the Mages' Treasure quest for the Juggernaut armor. There are two more in the other half of the forest map, and the last piece is in the ruined temple itself. That particular tombstone doesn't seem to activate until you've done at least one of the other parts of the quest.

Revenants are tough, that's for sure. What tactics work best depends on who you have in your group, and what talents/spells you have available to you.

A mage with Cone of Cold can be a big help; Crushing Prison too. Spells may be resisted, and won't last long on a revenant, but every little bit helps. Various healing spells obviously help your team to stay alive.

Mark of Death if you have an assassin, and if you can pop into Stealth and then backstab it to death, all the better. Bardic buffs like Song of Courage. 2H warriors are great here, they're not fast but they do big damage.

ZMOG, those Revenants are tough. I suppose I hadn't noticed before because I'd always done Redcliffe and the Circle tower before. But I decided my Dalish elf would want to go to the Dalish camp first.

Werewolves scaled nicely, and I was having no trouble. Then I summon the Revenant, it immediately pulls Morrigan close and WHAM dead!  I mean, she didn't even get to move! Okies, I'll kite a bit with Alistair whilst we range attack. Alistair gets mobbed and dead before he can so much as pop the cork on his first healing poultice (heavy chain armour). My DW rogue steps up to the mark and you guessed it....one hit and down.

Fine, I'll fight zombies over in Redcliffe for a bit and come back for the armour later when we have more area effect stuffs and better tanking abilities. Be that way, see if I care.

The Revenant fight at the tomb mentioned is particularly nasty because you get the Rev plus some helpers: one archer and a mage. Those latter two really amp up the pain level. Toss in the terrain issues and targeting is also hard.

Always best is to try and, if you can, disable the Rev (force field) and strip away his helpers and then it is your more typical one on one foght with the Rev.

The most important thing to remember about Revenants is that AFAIK, they don't scale. If, for example, you're doing the Forest straight after Lothering, it's very unlikely you'll have the minerals for the Revenants, but that's not a big issue since you won't be tough enough to use the drop, either :)

I'd recommend avoiding Revenants until your party's kit is at least Tier 5, Tier 6 with a tank in Massive and a healing mage for preference.

And for said Mage in West Becillian, Don't Forget that Alistair is Trained for battle against such. He's a Templar. Not so good against the Revenant itself, but still ok....
