Mass Effect 3...would you sacrifice the Citadel to save Earth?

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the larger moral decisions in Mass Effect 3 was something akin to choosing between the Citadel and Earth.

What would you personally do?

I'm not even sure if such a choice could be easily segmented into "Renegade this, Paragon that" categories.

Let the Citadel be destroyed:
Pros: Reaper manipulation of galactic growth severely undermined.
Cons: Great loss of life from a myriad of species, exinction of keepers, loss of galactic center of politics.

Let Earth be destoyed:
Pros: Much of the alien emnity towards humans likely undermined/removed.
Cons: Humanity suffers huge loss of life and power, loss of birthplace of the species, severe loss of moral, balance of power shift to turians and asari likely.

Personally, I would let the Citadel burn. It's a reaper-built construct, for one thing. Secondly, humans show the most potential out of all other species, evidenced by the Reapers shift of focus towards humanity, swift expansion and advancement, and of course shepard's actions. It's arguable that letting humanity be weakened and fall behind the other species would be doing the galaxy at large a disservice. Finally, I believe in playing for your own team, so to speak.

Big decision. Either way, you lose. It should be an ambiguous decision. (Like keeping/destroying the collector base or saving/leaving the council from ME1 should have been.) Because there's no way around the fact that you would cause the death's of billions. You just have to choose where.

Edit: Oh, and I'd probably let Earth fall...The Citadel may be Reaper made, but it houses lots of every single race, not just humans.

There isn't even close to 100 million people on the citadel...

You are forgetting that if the Reaper's control the citidel they can shut down all the Mass Relay's so that no one can use them, allowing them complete control of movement and communication throughout the entire galaxy.

The argument of human's showing the most potential is getting kind of dry also, at no time has Mass Effect ever said this or even hinted at it, the only potentail human's had for the Reaper's was that when melted in to soup they could make a new Reaper.

Since the Citadel controls all the mass relays, destroying it might shut down all the relays. That would pretty much end interstellar travel.

I would destroy the citadel to save any of the home planets. It's millions vs billions.

But I'd let the quarians burn, though. And not just because there are only a dozen million of them.

Depends on which one has the highest chance of being able to evacuate.

Short Version: The Citadel.

Citadel has no chance. Earth takes priority.

If the citadel is destroyed, the mass relays won;t work. that means everyone is isolated, and everyone loses.

But there won't be such a decision anyway.

We've got a Terra Firma partygoer, ladies and gentlemen.

Let all the aliens die, if it means Earth lives! Makes sense.

But you travel inter-system from star to star anyway though with the Normandy. The mass relays just make travelling very large distances much faster.

Given the choice, I would choose Earth any time. The billions of humans on it ARE humanity.

I killed the Council, and kept the Cerberus base, but if it came down to this choice I'd sacrifice Earth. The Citadel is the pinnacle of all known technology. It's unique and irreplaceable. Earth is the home of our species, it's our cradle, but ultimately it's just one habitable planet out of hundreds. The galaxy will suffer an irreparable loss from losing the Citadel. It will not from losing Earth.

As a long-time resident of Earth, I would sacrifice it for the Citadel. The Citadel is just so much more interesting, and Earth is ugly and boring and stupid. The sooner I get off this planet, the better.

Heh. You're gonna be here till the day you die....

P.S. To answer the original question, I would probably save Earth. Reiterated again, its millions verse billions....plus, to be honest, no other race has really done anything for Humanity or Shepard. I'm 100% paragon and hate the Ceberus/Humanity is better than all other races stuff. But, I wouldn't sacrifice my homeplanet and billions of lives for those who haven't done anything worthy of such a sacrifice.

Plus, to quote the words of the Council: "Those on the council are expected to help themselves, as well as those who seek our help." So, let the Turians, Ansari, and Salarians stop whatevers coming for the Citedal. It's about time they do something useful.

Wait, do we have information on if the mass relays will still work if the citadel takes massive casualties but isn't completely destroyed? Otherwise if you destroy the citadel you're basically sacrificing all the colonies of every race to doom.

If the Citadel being destroyed meant the relays stopped working, I'd have to save the Citadel and live with the knowledge that billions of human lives were lost because of me. If it didn't I'd let the Citadel get as much warning as it could (same goes for Earth btw) before letting it burn and have the destruction of the galactic government and millions of lives from varying species on my conscious. Either way I lose but I'd do what I had to do, whether or not the galaxy ended up viewing me as a devil or a savior.

The Citadel only has hundreds of millions of people on it. Earth has over 11 billion. This is a no-brainer.

I think whether you're Paragon or Renegade you'd save Earth. Not really a choice. Renegade favors his own kind. Paragon picks earth because its the higher population.

Well, my mainShep is a spacer, so he's never really been on Earth or cares about it that much.

I suppose my decision would depend on which NPC is where at the time. I'd never troll Councilor Anderson by letting a massive Reaper fleet just kill him like that.
