Ignoring ugly Shepard in this picture....Look at Jacob's face....That says all that needs to be said about Jacob.

but the priiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiize

As a character and a squaddie (at least Jacob seems hmmm....not psychologically disturbed as majority of team) he is not bad, but the romance ruined this guy for me forever. EVER.

This. I'm actually sad his romance ruined him. He's okay as far as you never romance him. EVER!!!

decent guy but overshadowed by better squad-mates. Just like Kiaden.

Jacob seemed kinda too businessy for my taste. But as you guys said, he does have that "squad member" personality. I liked his loyalty mission because he finally showed some emotion.
I am surprised to hear that people felt that their femShep's were sorta always hitting on him? On the contrary, I never could get him to talk! I guess sometime I skipped over him, but when I was able to talk to him I never got the dialogue to initiate attraction. Maybe he knew I was already romancing Garrus? *shrug* All I got was his history with cerberus and the alliance, over and over. I think I may have heard him say "spill drinks on the Citadel" like 5-10 times. A shame I accidentally got him killed on my playthrough.

Also I always thought it was suggestive how femShep leans back on the table while talking to Jacob, but I'm watching a playthrough where maleShep does it too. Maybe everyone wants to romance his abs?

I wouldn't mind him at all if he didn't come with stupid comments after every recruit mission, and if Bioware didn't force my femShep to behave incredibly over the top suggestively towards him.

Anyone who gives solid bro-hugs and wants to get loud and spill drinks is cool by my standards. I like Jacob, he's the type of guy that will do you a solid when you need it most.

Consider yourself lucky :3
The convo in which you trigger the romance takes place before his loyalty mission (if you talk to him everytime, that is), ask about his family then ask if he's single, then... Well you know you'd better not do it. Seriously :x

Lmao!

Probably one of the worst written Bioware characters ever.

And the worst Bioware romance ever written.

I liked him, although "Gravity's one mean mother" is probably one of the goofiest lines in the game.

He isn't as developed as he should be. I get along well with him, but solely because I play a full parangon Shepard because I feel bad for picking most renegade options (indeed, dumped a renegade character after an hour of play because I couldn't relate to him the slightest bit). I even prefer Zaeed. I want him dead because he is a mean "sun of a beach", but at least I feel something for him. I even cared more for Rolston and his daughter than for him.

Jacob is just... There. He's a decent guy and all, but not someone I would miss. I'm quite certain that part of my apprehension roots on the fact that when you try to talk to him and has nothing to say he spits the "I don't want to talk with you, come again later" thing. Doesn't he have guns to clean or calibrate? Or at least a polite response. Or a funny pun. Something that doesn't translate in "GO. AWAY.".

Hmm, intriguing! Does this mean that Anomen > Jacob?

(disclaimer: I was fine with the Anomen romance, hence the screen name)

I think the voice actor does a fine job, and it's not like I hate the character. I just don't find him very interesting. If you're so inclined, you also can't tell him to, "****** off, I don't need a door greeter" if you don't want his friggin opinion of each new recruit (he gets really lax on the salutes too, and there's no way to get him to shape up).

His loyalty mission was OK. Clearly a decent man, but... "This THING is not my father!" Lay off the melodrama just a little, will you?

I like Jacob. I do. He's better and more interesting than Kaiden, I like how he still acts like an Alliance soldier even though he's in Cerberus (I thought his saluting habits were an amusing quirk) and I enjoyed his loyalty mission. But yeah, I too hate for Fem!Shep can't even talk to him without sounding like a sexual predator. Urgh. Also his romance lines are even worse than Ashley's. I just wanna be friends, Jacob.

I liked Jacob more than Kaiden, I just did not find him very useful on most of the missions. If there had been a vermire moment in ME2 I would have sacrificed jacob, just like I did kaiden.

At first I thought he was a decent character. Right up to the first time I got the Normandy and went around talking to everybody with my femShep. I just wanted to get to know him like everybody else but she was so damn ****ty (with somebody she just met basically!) I avoid him ever since. Very uncharacteristic of her IMO, compared to how things went with Kaidan. I never got familiar with him because of this. Though overall he doesn't look very interesting anyway.

Hey, Jacob Fanboy, I'm also the president of the Jacob Taylor Support Group, so yes I think Jacob Taylor is sweet. Perfect Bromance, good man, reliable, not bad at combat (at least for my style, very up close/aggressive). However I do agree that the romance option for Mr. Taylor is shall we say... off. I think it's ****ing hilarious, laugh my ass off every time I watch the final romance scene, but I sort of blame Femshep for that mostly, she came on waaaaay too strong. But if you stay with the neutral speech options with Femshep you create a relationship with Jacob similar as to the one between Maleshep and Jacob.

So he's normal, good, I need some normal on the ship full of the sexually frustrated, morally confused, crazy people that make up the rest of my crew. I need a man that I can say to "You know, I got a couple of hours, and I had a really long day destroying Geth and gingerly wading through Quarian politics, I was put on the spot light and had to make a speech that was so good that it had to cover the fact that I returned with no new evidence and still save Tali form exile, I need a break, Jacob want to watch 300?"

He's the kind of guy that you can cruise for chicks with, or watch the game. He has a conscious, knows right from wrong, is honorable, and trustworthy. If I was trying to save the galaxy, I couldn’t think of anyone else I would rather have watch my back.

PS. The link to the group is on my Signature, if your interested.

my right hand

This. To my Shepard he was an adequate replacement for Kaidan; somebody I could count on to support me against the rest of the team when need-be, but not a yes-man. He's got a good head on his shoulders and he's trustworthy.

I liked him a lot especially early in the game. He's good decent character with no real hang ups. But I agree with posters who said the romance with femShep was over the top. Whoever wrote those lines should....stop...please. It was hard to listen too. I felt like femShep was harassing him. I wanted to pat his hand and tell him it was alright afterward, that they would just be friends. Poor man.

I don't like the APPROACH a Female Shepard has towards him (never tried Male Shepard in ME2 so far, can't tell if it's the same for Male Shepard, and I HOPE it ain't the same). As a female Shep when you're talking to Jacob she takes some suggestive body posture and talks to him in a suggestive voice tone, I couldn't role-play the whole thing,

LOL! I was about to say the same thing about male Shep. He takes this weird girly perch against the table and the whole thing just feel uncomfortable. Though Jacob delivers his lines to male Shep pretty goss as a buddy, even with Shep posing suggestively and grinning like an idiot at him.

As a female Shep when you're talking to Jacob she takes some suggestive body posture and talks to him in a suggestive voice tone, I couldn't role-play the whole thing, BioWare basically took control of the situation and said "see? she's obviously crazy about him, look at how she talks to him!", no thanks, I'd rather have my own control over a romance with Grunt than having BioWare taking decisions like that for me with Jacob.

Oh, but, other than that, other than the potential romance stuff and suggestive voice tone... the character himself of Jacob is fine by me, and he's a nice biotic on the battlefield.

It's the same for maleShep too, played both and you'd be amazed at how similar they are, for a game without a gay romance Jacob comes damn close!  MaleShep:  "You're still in good shape there Jacob wink wink!"

EDIT:  Karstedt beat me to it!

Leaning on a table with your arms folded when someone tells a story is suggestive?

Does that mean scratching your ears means you're making lewd gestures?
