This topic will help you tweak many aspects of ME2 to your liking.

My exemplary Coalesced.ini file:

Changelog:
1) all ingame cinematics set as skippable,
2) Jacob's weapon loadout changed to assault rifle + heavy pistol due to his military training,
3) non-combat storm stamina and regeneration 5x original value,
4) like in ME1 shields don't block powers anymore, making gameplay closer to lore,
5) health regeneration 100x slower to enforce medigel use,
6) second playthrough resource bonus increased to 500000, making planet scanning unnecessary,
7) planet scanning speed is equal as when the scanner is not active,
8) added 13 top rated male face presets and 18 top rated female presets, faces codes from http://www.masseffec...s.com/index.php,
9) Geth Pulse Rifle damage 2.5x of original value, this ups its DPS to the same level as Avenger Rifle (originally Geth Pulse Rifle's base damage and DPS is the lowest of all equipable guns in the game),
10) enemy shields and barriers (not armor) set as rechargable to remove player's unfair advantage over AI,
11) shields don't absorb full damage on break anymore (example; before having 1 shield point would absorb 100 damage before reducing health)

Reasoning for above changes:
2) Jacob is an ex-Alliance soldier. All soldiers are proficient with rifle. His original weapon loadout doesn't have much sense and makes him nearly useless as a squadmate.
3) You can save time when running around outside of combat.
4) This tweak makes almost all skills equally worth learning. It's also closer to ME lore where shields and armor can't block biotics and tech abilities, only barriers can.
5) Even on insanity I never had to use a medigel. With this tweak I still don't have to because a good player will stay in cover when his shields are down, but using unity is now finally worth the cooldown on few occasions.
6) Scanning planets is fun in first playthrough but I have enough of it now, when I finished the game and play again.
7) Scanner is slow, almost annoying. This tweak helps to save time.
9) Originally Geth Pulse Rifle's base damage and DPS is the lowest of all equipable guns in the game. This tweak make it just the same as Avenger Rifle. This also makes geth troopers as dangerous as rifle-wielding mercenaries.
10) If Shepard's shields regenerate so should enemy shields. In ME1 every enemy regenerated just like Shepard. Having an unfair advantage over AI is not fun.
11) This tweak makes shields work just like they did in ME1.


Steps you have to do before starting to mod the Game:
- Back up your coalesced.ini [...\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Config\\PC\\Cooked]
- Download Notepad++ and install it - DO NOT USE Word, Wordpad or notepad this will screw up your game

- Download Ruby and the script to fix the CRC of the coalesced.ini
install ruby and unpack the rb script to [...\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Config\\PC\\Cooked] the place where you also find the coalesced.ini http://rapidshare.com/files/344254878/ruby.rar
- After editing coalesced.ini file, launch CoalescedrealCRC.rb script to get fix_Coalesced.ini file and remove "fix_" prefix

VARIOUS TWEAK LIST:

Open Coalesced.ini file with Notepad++ or other advanced text editor like Scintilla Text Editor:

A. Utility tweaks:

- Search for [SFXGame.SFXGameModeOrbital] section
- Increase ScanReticleMoveSpeed and ScanPlanetRotationSpeed values


2. [quote]Jogging slowly around takes so much time. I wish I could storm longer out of combat.[/quote]Solution:
- Search for [SFXGame.SFXGame]
- Increase StormStaminaNonCombat and StormRegenNonCombat values


3. [quote]I wish the corpses stay a little longer. It's strange that they vanish so fast.[/quote]Solution:
confirmed not working
- Search for [SFXGame.BioArtPlaceable]
- Increase m_fCorpseCleanupFirstAttemptTime value


4. [quote]I don't like the pregenerated head models at character creation. Wish I could replace them with something better.[/quote]Solution:
- Search for [SFXGame.BioSFHandler_NewCharacter]
- Replace MalePregeneratedHeadCodes and FemalePregeneratedHeadCodes with the ones you want



B. Difficulty and balance tweaks:

- Search for [SFXGame.SFXGameConfig]
- Change UseSharedPowerCooldown=TRUE to false

- Search for [SFXGame.SFXGameConfig]
- Change bShieldsBlockPowers=true to false

- Search for [SFXGame.SFXDifficulty_Level5]
- Increase EnemyHealthMultiplierLow, EnemyHealthMultiplierHigh and EnemyShieldBonus values
- Decrease PlayerHealthMultiplierLow and PlayerHealthMultiplierHigh values

- Search for [SFXGame.SFXDifficulty_Level5]
- Decrease EnemyPowerCooldownMultiplier value
- Increase SquadPowerCooldownMultiplier value

- Search for [SFXGame.BioPlanet]
- Decrease PlacedMineralsPool and optionally EezoMineralsBase with ScanBarMaxMineralSize values

- Increase PctAmmoGiven value

- Change bCanDropAmmo=true to false
- Search for weapons [SFXGameContent_Inventory.SFXWeapon_*]
- Change bInfiniteAmmo=false to true


8. [quote]I don't like having an unfair advantage over the enemies. In ME1 enemies regenerated their shields. I wish they regenerate in ME2.[/quote]Solution:
- Search for [SFXGame.SFXShield_Base] and change bRechargeable=false and bFastCoverRegen=false to true
- under [SFXGame.SFXShield_Base] add the line "DamageGateInterval=1.0f" without parenthesis
- Add "bRechargeable=false" line and "bFastCoverRegen=false" line (without parenthesis) to [SFXGame.SFXShield_Armour] section

- Change Jacob's LoadoutWeapons_Shotguns to LoadoutWeapons_AssaultRifles in HenchLoadoutInfo=(className=SFXPawn_Jacob, Weaponclasses=(LoadoutWeapons_HeavyPistols,LoadoutWeapons_Shotgun))



C. Non coalesced.ini tweaks:

- Open ...\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Movies folder and rename BWLogo.bik and ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik to
BWLogo.bik.old and ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik.old


Plenty of other changes are possible, I just listed the ones that I think are worth to mention.

Set it to true to be able to pickup enemy weapons, I've played about 4 hours with it on and experienced no substantial bugs.

Hm ...  Setting UseSharedCooldown = False seems to have no effect on my cooldowns.

In fact, nothing I change appears to have any effect in game.  Blerg?  Anyone have else similar issue?

I have this tool and despite the good will to use it I still find it faster to edit ini file with text editor.

Finally got the other tweaks working, but SharedPowerCooldown seems not to do anything. Might want to note that one in the OP since it's been seconded and thirded.

I'm with NineInchNall, I got the other tweaks working, but SharedPowerCooldown seems not to do anything.

Maybe you could post a screenshot of exactly what your coalesced.ini file looks like?
Or at least a direct copy/pasted text bit of what yours looks like?


This would make my fricken day as I play a sentinel and shared cooldowns really jacks with my versatility.  Thanks for all of you other great suggestions.

All of these work for me, except UseSharedPowerCooldown. Makes no difference whether I set it to true or false. Sucks, because its the change I'm most interested in.



Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for the very helpful topic.  Used this to turn on enemy shield regen, increase handcannon backup ammo, and make powers work on shields.  All working great!

Is it possible to tweak/edit power durations/effects at all? I really enjoy playing with ME1 style powers, but it does make the game really easy, even on Insanity and with enemies regenerating shields. Longer ME1 style CD's and such would help a lot there.
