Is there any real difference between the three? I know shield bash simply knocks an enemy down, shield pummel hits a couple of times then stuns, and overpower hits three times before knocking down an enemy, but is there one that is "better?"

Shield bash seems to be the best, even though it's the first skill.. and so simple! Overpower's first two hits seem to be useless since it barely does any damage.. the same with shield pummel. But is it that simple?

Best for what ? Crowd control or damage ?

Shield bash is for me the best CC because of the time the target spend doing nothing. I usually use it for mage defense.

Shield pummel is good combo with a rogue because of the rogue bonus on stunned target.

Depending of you weapon / runes, Overpower makes more damage than just hitting the target.

Anyway, the 3 skills can save the life of your tank or a party member. Even if you don't use overpower, it is cool to have it when shield bash is on cooldown and you need a CC.

So, runes on weapons affect the shield too? If overpower can have a good bit of damage, then that'd be nice. I usually have Leliana use scattershot.for crowd control, even though that stun doesn't last too long.

Overpower guarantees a critical hit (if you hit at all), thus it is good against frozen enemies.

Other than that, shield bash works immediately, so it's best for crowd control, shield pummel is good with rogues (as stated above) and also without a rogue a nice skill. I'd always prefer it to doing normal hits.

Depends what for.

Shield Pummel is the best against a generic enemy. It does a bit of damage, and the stun is an auto-hit. Also, stuns tend to be better than knockdowns, at least imo.

Shield Bash is the best to get an ally out of a Grab/Overwhelm. This is because it has the shortest animation of the three. It's the best ability to use as an interrupt. Using this skill, then Shield Pummel while they're on the ground, then Overpower, is the best way to keep a mage on the ground until they're dead.

Overpower is the worst interrupt ability. But it shatters targets, making it a brilliant move. This, and shred/stonefist/critical shot/crushing prison/AoS can help you to take out 3-4 frozen enemies at once.

What dk said, except I think overpower is better than he gives it credit for. You can still use it to interrupt a long cast like chain lightning, just barely. Also, if you follow a shield bash up with an overpower, you'll knock them down pretty much as soon as they get up. Foll up with shield pummel and they're stunned. Pretty quick, shield bash is off cooldown, and you can use that again if they're still alive.

I'm not saying it's bad. But Shield Bash is near instant and Shield Pummel never misses.

I like them all.  I usally just chain them all together.

Shield bash is good for forcing the Ogre to drop someone from a grab.  I'm not sure if it works on a dragon's grab.

Pummel stuns. Some enemies can't be knocked down but can be stunned. I think you can't knock down ogres, right?

Yeah, you can't knockdown Ogres :P

As I said, Shield Bash is a great interrupt, for casters/grabs because of the short animation. But as far as disabling the enemy, I like Pummel the best, because the stun is an auto hit (some may resist the stun, but an enemy with high defense can't dodge it).

I think Ogres can be knocked down with certain spells.

Maybe Stone Fist?  I know Stone fist will drop a Golem with no problems.
