Well I'm a musician, and I write short stories for fun. I guess you could lump me into that group as well.

Jack represents the creative:?

Same here. Something that would be interesting in ME3 is if you have to choose between your LI and something else that's very important. Like risking stopping a significant threat to go save your LI. Without a doubt I would go and save Jack everytime.

Well, I'm female, I played as FemShep in ME1 and I saved Ashley because she WAS TOO AWESOME TO DIE and was my Shepard's best friend :-P
It sucked to kill Kaidan, his romance plot was becoming *almost* interesting, but I could not allow myself to save him only because I wanted the paramour acheivement. So, it was either "saving the LI" or "saving my 2nd favourite character (Wrex being the 1st)" ;-)

Honestly,
I wouldn't mind an ending where Jack and Shepard go down together. In
fact, if it's well done, it could potentially be the most awesome end to
a BioWare game ever.

This is what I picture happening. I
picture them isolated in some small space together as everything is
going to hell and the reapers are invading. Explosions are going on
outside, everything is falling apart, and they're just sitting together,
waiting for the end.

Please no, I'm starting to cry :(
Honestly, I don't think that Bioware will kill Shepard or any of the other main characters UNLESS the player allows it. I mean, we'll always have a choice - like doing loyalty missions or buying upgrades. ME is an American videogame, American heroes don't die (also because it's bad for marketing) /sarcasm
Well, if I'll have to choose between Thane and Jack... well I guess I'll kill my LI again XD

Oh dear... I'm simultaneously looking forward to this and dreading it at the same moment. Of course, I don't think any such scene would be truly complete without a few closing remarks between the characters - but I didn't bother to try for it because I generally suck at dialogues (well, dialogues for characters that I haven't made myself, at any rate).

I wouldn't be suprised, I get added into that group as well since I'm an art school drop out (suffered burn out) and LARP wich is more or less the land for wannabe actors.

EDIT:  So I took one more look at that poll from yesterday.  If the developers are paying attention I think it will suprise them that Jack won if for most popular love intress for females who played a male shep.

Actually talking about LIs, yesterday, for the first time ever, I took the "Why can't I have both of you?" approach with Ash & Liara. I think I lost bladder control laughing for a moment there.

It's part of an experiment I'm doing with playing though "as though I was" character x - which in this case is John Shaft (I love old exploitation movies). So I've been running around shmoozing with anything female, disconnecting the Council a lot, generally sassing any authority figure, punching reporters, riding roughshod over people's emotions and standing up for any minority against the powers of The Man... and the guy is still a Paragon! It seems being a Renegade depends on being a complete douchebag 24/7.

What? You're on the Witness Protection Program? ;)

You said you had a background in screenwriting once, so I assume you might have been/are involved with something that might be known out in the big wide world. Or you're a sneaky-ass dev :D Either way, good for ya, Uncle Royce - Two-Fisted Editor!

Seriously though, I think Jack's appeal to the creative (perhaps only insofar as us as a slice of fanbase pie, but there you go) is that creative types generally feel ill-at-ease in the world. We don't always fit in. We're often square pegs hammered into round holes; working nine to fives to survive, while inside our heads we're solving murders, saving galaxies and slaying dragons. We feel deeply about **** most normal folk don't even give a second thought to. Mad men and women.

Some of us never get an outlet for the weirdness in our heads and it goes unsung to our graves, others, the really lucky ones, get to yell it from mountaintops and get really crappy adaptions of their work done by Hollywood. It's the way it goes... back in the day we'd have been patronized artists painting rich old Medici's mistresses, poets drinking ourselves to death in Paris, or storytellers at firesides spinning yarns for a plate of food and a roof for the night. Not so bad a way to go if you ask me... nowadays we're just stuck on the cusp of discovery eternally thanks to the wonder of the electronic god-brain we're all plugged into and never really moving one way or the other.

We're all outsiders in our own way; possessed by forces barely at our control, unable to quiet them with holy water and latin prayer and a day job. So's Jack. No wonder we like her; we can see ourselves in there underneath the scars.

Melodramatic? Sure. True? Definately.

I feel left out of with all these artists because I'm in engineering which is like the opposite of art Posted Image. But it's interesting that Jack seems to attract the creative such as artists and writers. Creative types are generally more open minded and not judgemental. And you need this open-mindedness to want to get to know Jack.

Hah... well, I'm not that different, really. My primary occupation is fairly dry statistical stuff (and I actually enjoy it, which some people find odd). Sure, I dabble in the occasional creative stuff*, but I'll always be a rational empiricist at heart.

*song lyrics for the most part for the last couple years or so - occasionally they become actual songs when the rest of my supposed "band" get off their asses and do the instrumental segments I'm always pestering them about. Haven't really written anything prose-ish for quite a while; I think that's primarily a function of not having enough time.

No, the opposite of Art is accounting.

Unless you worked for Enron, then accounting was a creative process. A criminal creative process, but creative none the less.

Interestingly enough, my sister actually worked for Enron. She left before things got interesting, but I still have some... suspicions about her.

She's also a fairly conservative religious type, so I don't think she'd approve of Jack much. Almost wish I were dating someone like Jack in real life just to see her reaction.

I am stealing this quote.  You... You do realize this, don't you?

It just knocks me out that our tastes run towards the creative.  Ways with words, ink, notes, numbers, all of us.  This raises another question, though.  How exactly are we playing this game?  Are we playing a role, or nudging the story in a direction we see fit to make it better?  Is there a degree of removal here?  Because Shepard ending up with Jack makes the best story, if I were writing the ME movie.  Are we "playing" or helping create?

And on a completely unrelated note, what's the deal with the timer on the main page?  Five days and twenty-three hours to what?

Well, since Kasumi is coming out in April it might not have to do with ME.  Other than that I have no idea.  Anyone hear any rumors out there?

And when it comes to playing the game, I think that I at least think of it like making the film the way I want it to be made.

I know if ME becomes a film it will probably be Liara, Ashley, Miranda, or Tali who becomes the romance intrest (or pherhaps even a character we've never seen before) that is the way of Hollywood.  But in this medium, in this story , I can make it who I want it to be.

Well the countdown is on the DA:O site too so i doubt it is Kasumi. Maybe they announce a new project. Anyone noticed too that the timers show different times. One is at 5 days 17h and the other at 6 day and a couple of minutes ...

Interesting way to look at it. I think I've swung both ways in the past when it comes to video games - with BGII I went down a certain route because it seemed like a better story - but then there's NWN2, where I went down a more self-indulgent, unrealistically happy ending because it just felt good, even though I thought the tragic outcome probably made for better writing (though I think that was at least in part a function of how easy it was to get the happy ending).

With Jack, I'm probably closer to the former, I think. There's not a lot of easy satisfaction to be found (and I'm already braced for the kind of ending that'll make me bawl) but I'm sticking with it because it makes for such a compelling story.

Edit: And re: this countdown thing... since it's on both the Dragon Age and Mass Effect sites, my suspicion is that it's not directly related to either. Something related to The Old Republic, perhaps?

Looks like they fixed the discrepancy. 3/29 at noon eastern time for both now.

Seeing as it's on every Bioware site, and they have an as-of-yet unannounced "New Next Gen Game" in development, my money is on that new game being announced.

Edit: Actually it isn't on their Old Republic site. That would throw a wrench in my theory.

My first thought about the countdown is that they're finally going to open up the Old Republic beta testing. If not that, then it's potentially a new game.

As for Jack fans being creative people, while I work 9-to-5 at a consulting firm I've also been singing in choirs since before I can remember. I even tried my hand at acting back in college. Now if only I could feel confident enough to try writing my own music.
