Funny you should mention that; I heard one of the new squadmates/LIs originally under consideration for the next game was a three-headed monkey. Sadly, I think they scrapped that idea.

Hi there Jack Fans :)

I'm really sorry if this question is hidden somewhere in the thread but at 104 pages I'm finding a bit difficult to sift through it all so... hope you don't mind.

I'm trying to extract Jack's sound files, I just want all of her dialogue. I'm about to embark on trying to do it myself but I just thought I'd check here to see if it's already been done and I can download them from somewhere.

If not, can anyone tell me which .afc files I should be looking at in the CookedPC file?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Boy, oh, boy, have you come to the right place! :D

Somebody posted a link that was on the BioWare Social site a while back, but I forgot it, so here's the one I learned it from: http://forestmist.org/2010/02/mass-effect-2-soundtrack/

Now this guy is concerned with extracting the soundtrack music, but this method works perfectly for the voice files as well.  But here's where things get tricky.  If you really want ALL of her dialogue, then you're going to have a lot of searching to do.  The money files start with the five letter prefix "norcv."  All of those files contain Jack's dialogue while on the Normandy, which is where the vast majority of her audio is.  The rest, however, is scattered here and there across all the other audio files.  Here are a few you might want to look at, though:

* ss_global_hench_convict_S_INT.afc - This is Jack's combat banter, another good one to go for, as it's all Jack.

* prscva_cv_join_d_S_INT.afc - This is the dialogue for when you find Jack in Purgatory.  Another heavy Jack scene.

* Files with the prefix juncvl - Jack's loyalty mission, probably the one other major concentration of Jack lines.

* norcva_debrief_d_S_INT.afc - The post Jack-recruitment briefing

* norcvc_conflict_h_S_INT.afc - The Jack/Miranda conflict

* twrvxl_oldfriend_d_S_INT.afc - A minor one, but if you're looking for the classic "I like her.  Are we still recruiting?" line, it's in here.  (Interesting bit of trivia: Jack is the ONLY character to have unique dialogue in Miranda's mission.  How's that for a compliment? :)

* Also, do a search for the word "Jack" in the CookedPC folder.  There are four "hub" files which contain her dialogues when you click on hotspots on the four major planets.

The rest are scattered in various places.  I wish I remembered the link somebody posted that gave somebody's accounting of what missions and hubs are in which file, but if you're looking for a specific sound file that happens anywhere other than those events above, then you're gonna have to dig.

Hope this helps.  Have fun exploring; you'll find a lot of interesting things that were left out if you really start digging.

I found Jack more of a developed character than Miranda.... Miranda seemed to be a pompous, arogant, lying, cry baby. Jack had her cry baby moments too, however they were well founded reasons... She was abused all her live by various ppl, and exerimented on by Cerberus.

Miranda is just a spoiled brat who was asked to be the best she can be so her father can give her everything.... being the daughter of richest human in the galaxy, she had no real excuse to complain and her so called poor friend just used her for money.

Jack is the girl in my books.

I hope Jack's in ME3, she's better suited for Shep b/c she has only loyalty to Shep where as Miranda can't be trusted and her loyaty to Ceberus is too tight for her to leave even if she though she told TIM to bugger off (if you used her for the last mission.).

Jack, Tali, Jacob, Garrus, Legion, Grunt, Mordin, Liara, and Thane are the charaters who'd be 100% loyal to Shepard till the end.

I think it's easy to pick on Miranda because of how different a character she is from Jack. At the same time, I think we all might have different opinions of her if she'd been written slightly better or if they'd had more time/money to expand upon her story. While I agree with your general assessment of Miranda, try to realize that she also has her walls to break down, though they are admittedly far more flimsy than those that Jack has built up.

I am one of the few Jack fans, I suspect, that actually likes Miranda. Jack is my #1 girl but I do like Miranda's character, plus I'm a sucker for an Australian accent. Unlike most, Tali is my third choice for a LI, I view her more like a kid sister.

Yeah, I've probably said it before, but Miranda with about three or four more conversations actually might have been a fairly good character.  As it stands, it takes exactly one conversation of compliments and flattery to get her over her inferiority complex AND fall head-over-heels in love with you.  It's just so shallow, and makes me suspect that her massive fandom has more to do with her massive... genetic engineering than it has to do with her character.

I really need to stop doing this, though.  Posts from outsiders to this thread have been leading me to suspect we're sorta getting a reputation, not just as the "love Jack" thread, but the "love Jack, and hate everybody else" thread.  There's only one character in the history of BioWare that I've hated, and she wasn't in ME2.  Every other character, I've liked or at least found redeeming qualities to.

I am with you on that. I prefer Tali's personality to Miranda, but I like them both. But I am not so struck on either of their romances. (Miranda was just dull, and Tali is too much a little sister figure to me - a feeling I can't shake off for the romance)

Although, I want to point out I like all the characters. Even Jacob! I only hated his romance..

Also, about Jack fans being more creative - consider me a writer, artist and borderline dabbling into music composition. Admittedly, I lack skill or talent in all areas, but still.

If we were getting that reputation, wouldn't we be getting more trolls, though, Bobby?

I'd like to think we've been even and have had nice things to say about the other characters... Save the one.

I dunno, a lot of new people who post to this thread seem sorta nervous at first, like, "Well, I like Jack... BUT I LIKE TALI TOO!  I'M SORRY!  DON'T HIT!  DON'T HIT!"  Like we're not going to accept them because they DARE to find another character just as interesting or fun as Jack.  Maybe newbies in the other character support threads do this too, I dunno, but it's just something I noticed.  Maybe they think that because we like Jack, we're all like Jack, and just waiting at a moment's notice to start flinging obscenities and abuse at them.

So, to any non-regulars: we're nice, really.  :D

Well, just for the record (and in case some passers-by catch this), I like Tali too. Sorry, I'm indiferent towards Miranda thanks to the points Bobby outlined in her writing more than anything else, and I feel strongly about almost all the characters - even Jacob (who I think gets an unfair roasting from many while they ignore the fact he's actually handsome... ok, he ain't deep and his pickup lines suck like a black hole, but sometimes you just need to know where to put it... hey, at least I'm being honest).

If you pick your way up and down this thread, there are more than a few kind words for almost every ME character. We're just Jackolytes... we're not intolerant of other opinions here if they're put across with maturity and honesty like some members of the Talimancers and the Miridians can get (I'm speaking from experience, nacherly, and thus these loons shalt forevermore be known as the Tali-ban and the Branch Miridians ;) ). And we won't beat you down for putting your feet on the couch.

For all the flack that some of us here might give in regard to characters like Miranda or Jacob or whomever, I have to admit that I always did enjoy Miranda's loyalty mission... even without Jack's smartass comment near the end. ;)

It wasn't the goal of the mission or even the betrayal by Niket that intrigued me; I think most people pretty much saw that one coming from a mile away. What got me, and still does, is that bit right at the end when you have the chance to truly change a part of Miranda's life by either letting her walk away and go back to the Normandy or persuade her to take a chance and talk to her sister. It felt like the one genuine time in the game when Miranda was truly torn between what was the right thing to do, and she faultered. For just that brief time, I was endeared to her and felt like she was a real person, not some ice cold "Cerberus b***h", as Jack would say.

Think we should devote some comments to being nice to some of the other characters? Just to show that we're not all hard-hearted folk and it ain't all dollars and cents? Here, I'll start...

-I love the Tali romance. I think it's great. The writing is good (not great, like that Jack romance, but what is?), and Liz Sroka really sold it well. That "I-want-you-to-see-what's-under-this-damn-helmet" speech? Where her voice was just dripping with unulfilled want? Well, I think my response to that was "Duhhhhhhhhhhhh, yes ma'am."

-Thane? Also cool. Real cool, like, velvet jacket in the sixties cool. Anything that reminds me of Alain Delon in Le Samourai? Instant awesome.

-It must also be said how understated and laid back Jacob is. There comes a time when dealing in areas of political intrigue and certain death where you need to talk to someone who thinks it's all as hinky as you do, and Jacob fits that role quite well.

-And who doesn't love Garrus, particularly in light of his development into ME2? He has seen-it-all Bogart cool, world-weary and cynical. And his romance is some stellar slow-burn writing, starting cute with a playful segue into meaning that throws what happened before into sharp relief. Great writing.

-As for Miranda, well, I'll admit I've missed the boat on that one, but if someone from the Miranda page were willing to come down and discuss it with us in a civil manner to show us what we've been missing then I, personally, would be grateful. Anything to enhance my appreciation of such a rich work as this game.  And if they have questions about our liking of Jack, I'd be more than happy to respond in kind.

See? We're nice people.

Have you guys ever thought of starting a group on the forums for in-game but off-topic discussions for Jackolytes who don't wish to throw this thread off of Jack? I'm not dissing anyone here I just sort of came into the idea reading the last few posts. Hell you can call the group "Subject Zero" it would be sort of fitting. :)

Hi all devoted Jack fans!

I have a question, don't know if you've discussed this, but did your expectations of Jack before the game differ from what you thought of her after finishing?

I was expecting a much more confident woman with a soft side you had to work hard to reveal, I wasn't really prepared for her to be so fragile. To be fair I had pretty much only watched her trailer and read her info on the homepage, but I was surprised nevertheless. They did a really good job in making her story emotionally engaging, even for me who didn't romance her.

I would really like to see more of her in ME3.

To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised by what I learned.  I found her a puzzle to put together and I've still yet to find all the pieces.  That's what I like about her the most I think.

Hah, I was just about to say that the visor makes her look a bit like Geordi LaForge.
