LOL!  Sucks for the sheps who romanced her. Maybe he'll find out in ME3.

I find it funny that there's a Jack-related discussion thread on the front page when this is on page 2, so I'm bumping this.

Here's to bald chicks, tatoos, and crazy-powerful biotics.

What makes Jack so compelling for me personally is how she ties in to a lot of the themes of the gamesIt goes back to what Mordin was saying about his nephew and how hard it was to contemplate the galaxy, let alone save it.  Which is why he used his nephew to serve as an example of the best and brightest the galaxy had to offer and made him fight that much harder.  He can't anthropomorphize the galaxy, but he can look forward to seeing his favorite nephew again.

Jack serves the same purpose for Shepard in a way no sidequest could hope to fulfill, should the player decide it to be so.  When we first meet her, Jack is indicative of most of the things a Paragon Shepard would try to stop, both in her demeanor and in her past.  Both man's inhumanity to man and the callous winds of an essentially Chaotic Neutral fate.  And weaving your way past her layers of defense mechanisms can create a sense of the good you're doing on a miniature scale.  You can't anthropomorphize the galaxy, but you can show essential human decency to a poor girl whom the universe wadded up and threw away.

Or, inversely, you can harden her up and confirm her notions that life is cold and cruel and full of people who want to use you.  The genius here is that she can develop either way.  I think the reason BioWare tried so hard to sell us on her (leading to the fans turning on her like hungry dogs) is because she is going to be the major indicator of the choices you make throughout the rest of the series.  Which is why all the hate (which I understand, even if I don't condone it) seems like calling the game at halftime.  She's not done developing yet.

So yeah.  Bumped and signed... And this is my first post on this forum, sorry if I broke any rules I wasn't supposed to.

well said. i hope you're right in that she's going to play a major role in the future.

Thank you very much.  I guess I'm a little more confident than most that Jack will be in ME3 because even though a lot of folks may not like her, even her some of her strongest detractors will admit that Jack's romance writing is quite strong.  None of the romance options are greater or lesser than any of the others, but rather fit in to a wide variety of gamers' intent on how they want their story to play out.  You want stability and boot-knockin'?  You have Miranda and Jacob.  You want awkward cuteness?  You have Garrus and Tali.  You want to feel like you made a difference?  You have Thane and Jack.

Bioware knew those who liked Jack were gonna REALLY like her.  It's a brave artistic impulse, risking a thousand people not liking her so a hundred people would love her.  So she's coming back.

Plus, cutting someone off at the legs before they have time to grow?  This is BioWare.  Not NBC.

Bingo. It's good to see that the people not flinging crap around in here like it's a chimp's tea party actually get it :)

I think Jack has the best looking face of every female in Mass Effect. Just need to switch it with Miranda's body and then pure goddess.

Plus, I seem to recall from before the game came out, that Jack was one of the dev's (forget which) favorite characters.  So, she's got friends in high places. :)

But... I want to be friends :(

Jack is a great character. I love how you really feel like you get to know her, and the way she opens up little by little, but I hoped I could have a little more options. You are inevitably forced into the LI path if you talk to her. I know it's not in her character to accept friendship, but I can't understand why should Shepard be "acting interested" when all he's doing is talking.

So uhm a great character who definitely deserved some more dialogue lines.

This, pretty much.

After Dragon Age's Morrigan, I'd been hoping that BW would at least give us a friendship convo with her if you went the Paragon path and didn't want to knock boots with her. Unfortunately, if it's there, I have yet to discover it. Something to think about for ME3, I guess.

Bump.

It's a pity that some characters get short-changed development without the romance. Jack really suffers most for it IMO. It's annoying that Garrus has to calibrate those guns all the time, but Jack tells you to eff off.

Jack is definatly my fav character. Simply because she looks like/acts/says what she feels, she dosen't hold back for anyone. She made me laugh more then anybody and most of the time it's because I was like yeah thats what I would do/say.

Also seeing as how I am covered in tats and have a shaved head I can't say much about her looks, but I can't see her looking any other way. She has a good reason for it and that interview cut sceane commercial thing was like wow. Her face is way the prettiest in the game.

And great interactions when you can find them...

JACK: Lot of money on Illium.  Soft people make great victims...

JACOB: Jack, no!

JACK:  What?  I'm just thinking aloud...

Heh, I've never heard that one with Jacob around.  Have to try that sometime.

I fell in love with her during Miranda's loyalty mission.  "I like her.  Are we still recruiting?" had me laughing for almost a minute afterward.

There were some points where Jack really told my femShep off. I started cracking up when she told me I was pissing around. The fact that she's so abrasive is why I find myself liking her as a character. She's been through a lot, and it shows, and her attitude is really perfect for it.

I'm considering playing through on a male Shepard to romance her, because she seems to be interesting. She also has a very nice face, really; I know the lack of hair puts some people off, but it really fits her. Simple, no strings, hair's just another thing to deal with, why bother? And it's a nice contrast with Miranda. :D

My own personal favorite is if you take her and Tali to deal with that racist Volus on the Citadel.  You know, the one who thinks the quarian stole his credit chit?

TALI: My head agrees with you.  My gut says I should jack his suit's olfactory sensors so everything smells like refuse.

JACK (fed up): Just kick his ass!

Bring Jack on Thane's recruitment mission.  If you push the merc out the window she says something about how she could take lessons from you.

I liked her more before I found out how damaged she was.

As I said somewhere else she'd have been sexier with better pants. And I don't care how flat she thinks she is, she's going to regret the lack of support in the future.

Also, I was SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED in the power downgrade once she joining my team versus the cut scenes.

Well...it would greatly disturb game balance if she was able to take three mechs ,on chest' :)
As for her damage I have exactly opposite opinion - it gave character depth and make her more likeable\\lovable. Main grudge most people hold against her (or so I think) is that she's an just angry, tough broad (something like female Grunt :P) so it's interesting to see that some people are into character even without dwelling in her past end emotions.
And about some of the previous post considering matching her face with Miranda's body - that is horrific idea!
Funny thing is that she might be the only character in history of video games that people actually try to get dressed instead of undressed :)

Hey, man I don't need that sort of baggage. She isn't likely to ever get over that stuff beyond the experiment. I played along until it got to the point I realized I wouldn't pursue Jack if she were real and I was delighted that Tali took interest on more than one level.

And she sure as hell wasn't going to let me be the dominant one, even for a little bit.

On the plus side, when she has kids they're going to be powerful biotics. Though biotics in general got toned WAY down from me1.

I liked her lack of dress to some extent, but on missions she should have had to suit up like the rest of us. It would have been another way for her personality to shine to have her cobble together (or alter) a uniform from my left over crap.

Favourite (non ME1) character by a long shot. She was hilarious but also had an emotional backstory and meaningful LI angle. If my Shep ends up getting in trouble for 'cheating' on Liara with her, then I'll just have to live with the consquences!
