I don't know. She's got freckles on her face, and it seems like she's maybe got auburn/reddish hair. I gotta think she might be a wee-bit Irish, and so I have to think a little Celtic Rock, ala Flogging Molly, might be up Jack's alley. That, and after Mondo went and put her in a bowler it's even harder for me to get that thought out of my mind.

However, she might not like a lot of music at all. I went through that folder of sound bites for her last night, and there are at least 2 or 3 in which she talks about liking seclusion because it's quiet. I get the feeling Jack has enough noise floating around in her head that adding to it with some raucous music might not actually do much for her.

What I want to know is which one of the squad is a Smiths fan, so I can make sure they croak on the suicide mission.

Ha! The Smiths: introspective pseudo-intellectual masturbatory self-indulgent whining about how you're too smart for the popular kids and all the pretty girls won't sleep with you...

Gotta be Thane's kind of music ;)

I think Captain Beefheart might be a good fit for Jack, at least in terms of reflecting her personality - it may seem completely deranged on the surface , but there is a method to the madness that you can spot if you're patient enough (something like Trout Mask Replica in particular).

I can't explain it, but "Check My Brain" by Alice In Chains reminds me of Jack, especially the beginning.

I picture Jack listening to Industrial, maybe a little KMFDM, Minisrty, Diverje, Revolver1010, maybe even some NiN.

Just as I was clicking on this topic, my iPod decided I needed to hear The Jesus Lizard's song Gladiator.  I suppose I can hear that, if we're buying into the whole Jack-likes-demented-noise-rock thing.  Who knows, though?  I didn't pick up on a lot of hints in the game, though maybe I'll notice more on my next playthrough (I've still only finished the game twice).

Update:   My iPod chose to follow that last one up with The Talking Heads - Psycho Killer.  Oh, iPod, you always know where my mind is.  (Not that I think Jack's a psycho killer, but she does seem to like to encourage people to think that.)

You gotta be careful with those trolls. They aren't the brightest bunch. Next time, remember to use your [.sarcasm][./sarcasm] coding just in case there's any question.

Ya sarcasm does not translate well in text.

This minor disturbance aside, this thread really has had a remarkably low troll-density thus far. And even the ones that do show up (with one notable exception) generally don't put their heart into it, and are easy enough to ignore.

I keep harping on about it, so I'll share some Live from Doomsday stuff (if I linked the video for Worlock they'd almost certainly kill the thread, considering it''s been routinely banned all over the place)...

Skinny Puppy - The Choke

It's just the layers of sound; the disorder and order, the howl and stutter, the fleshy slap of drum and wail of synth... I can sleep to this stuff, incidentally :D I just hear this kind of music and Jack dovetails into it; a complexity of sound and emotion. Bit like, well, Jack.

And just to show they can do more sinuous, nearly sexy things...

Ya, I tend to but we haven't seen one here in such a long time and I just felt a compulsion to say something.

It's a rather feeble argument too... I mean, name a character that isn't a stereotype in the game. You can't throw a stone without hitting one. You couldn't dodge cliche and stereotype in ancient Greece, so what do you really expect now? Everything's built on a foundation of tropes going back further than Gilgamesh. If you think anything's different and new in the 21st century, you're pretty blind. And dare I say it, stupid.

Its a shame that one of the better characters in this game has such a small following. I'd like to offer some support ;p

I usually don't like most of the music that gets thrown up in forums, but that's not so bad. I'm making a mental note to add that to my brainstorming music list.

And, so I am actually contributing with this post; I bring screenshots!

Except that we are intelligent.

And Tali and Jack are the two best crew members on the whole damn ship.

The objective isn't to tell a new story. There hasn't be one of those in a long, long time. The objective is to tell an old story well, and in compelling ways (to paraphrase Joseph Campbell).

Bioware did that very well with Jack.
