Where is everybody hearing that there will be dire consequences for "cheating" on your ME1 LI in ME2? I did hear Casey Hudson say there would be some kind of conflict in ME3 if you "cheat" on your ME1 LI in ME2, but I never heard a dev say there would be dire consequences. And I keep seeing posts from people saying how there will be some crazy consequences in ME2 for cheating on your ME1 LI.

Well, I personally don't actually think there will be any crazy repercussions or anything - I was just borrowing a quote from one of the ME2 loading screen messages, about how your actions in ME2 could have "dire consequences" in ME3. And, given that the cheating thing has been specifically mentioned, I figured it was one of the "dire consequences" they had in mind.

Of course, I take their use of the word "dire" with a grain of salt - that is, I fully expect most of the consequences (and this one too, probably) to be as "dire" as the consequences for your ME1 actions in ME2.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Just one note before I gotta jet (No, I'm not trying to turn this into the Tali thread):

My canon MeerShep looks like a younger Mel Brooks with a soul patch. No fooling!

Boy, King Crimson, and Frank Zappa mentioned on the same page. I knew I liked you guys/gals for more than Jack. Excellent taste people.

Did Mondo do her daily Jackfiction post today?  I'm looking back and not seeing anything....

Spent the last two days playing through ME1 (yet again...) so I've not really has anything strike me other than this weird, disjointed underwater-sensation of  "... glub glub glub... must find Wrex's armour.... must ditch Ashley on Virmire... must call Saren a flip-floppy emoboi in need of cuddles... glub glub glub..." :D

Just to get Zappa in too, I have a few albums of his, and I just find the guy not only interesting musically, but really ****ing funny. People that mixed music and comedy and did it so flawlessly are rare things. I'm glad that some of us here will get it if I offend some drooler in another fanthread and I say they were having a 'petulant frenzy' ;)

I'm running through ME1 again as well. I did not romance anyone on my main Shep, so I'm going through to romance Ash and cheat on her with Jack. Yes I'm cruel like that. :)

Found this little tidbit earlier while wandering on Illum:

[Vista - talk to Jack]

Jack: Lots of money here. Soft people who'd make good victims

Samara: If I knew you were comprehending something illegal, I would be compelled to stop you.

Jack: *smirk That would be interesting.

--------------------------------------

Seems extended squad convos like this happens in particular places with certain members. Take Omega for instance if Jacob and Miranda are with you, head down to the lower levels near Ken's scrap shop and look at the slumping batarian down in the alleys. Nice bit of character dynamic there.

Jack and Zaeed, Tali and Garrus seem to be exceptions as they happen while you're running around the hubs.

Jack lovers, I've got a situation that I want to handle delicately but I don't know how! I'm trying to stay with no romance options in Mass Effect 2 but I'm in a horrible situation with Jack that I can't resolve peacefully.

I'm trying to get her to like me as a friend but not as a romance, but I'm stuck in a discussion that leads to me being in a romance with her regardless of what I say (unless I decide to tell her off, where she'll only respond with "**** off!" instead.)

If you haven't gone far enough you could just stop talking to her. But if you have gone far enough then there is no way to peacefully resolve it. She won't lose loyalty over it, she just tells you to **** off.

If you bring Grunt instead of Samara to that spot on Illium, Grunt says, "But you're picking the fat and slow from the herd. What's the fun in that?" then Jack says, "It depends what you're after." That's really interesting though what Samara said. I laughed at Jack's reaction.

Where is this conversaton that Jack and Zaeed have while walking? I know they have some conversation while walking but I never could find where it initiates.

I'm fairly sure it doesn't exist in game; I combed every inch of Omega (which is where the conversation files are located) and never had it trigger.  As I said when I posted it, though, I'm not sure it was even finished; Zaeed's lines don't quite line up with what Jack is saying.

For those who missed it, here's what we're referring to.

Sigh... I always end up going around with squad member combinations which don't lead to this kind of "extended party banter".  It wouldn't be bad to have Dragon Age like party banter... but that would scare all the shooter gamers out there <_<

I also find that there's a fairly high amount of overlap between "Things that Jack might say" and "Things that might be Frank Zappa lyrics".

There is a way to end the romance through discussion, that doesn't lead to the "**** off", but she does still stop talking to you. There really isn't a 'friendship' path unfortunately.

I don't see how it would scare shooter fans. It's not like party banter affects gameplay. I think it's safe to say everyone, whether they are big shooter or rpg fans, wants more party banter.

Ya it is frustrating because I think she would be much more popular if she wasn't marketed like a female version of Marcus Fenix. But part of me likes that she isn't as popular as Tali or Miranda. It's like that feeling you have when you really like a band that not many people know about. Like it's more of yours because just you and a few other people know about it and appreciate it.

I tend toward this sentiment myself.  Never cottoned much to the most popular girl(s) in high school, the "in" movies, etc.  That (as well as my whole root-for-the-underdog thing) is what led me to Jackolyte status in a roundabout way.  Just to riff on the underdog aspect for a bit longer, I guess that's why I find Miranda so uninteresting: all those advantages and she has to have Shepard put her problems in perspective.  It reminds me of some overpaid "empty celebrity" who whines that (despite having more money than most people will ever see in their lives) their problems are so overwhelming that they need to resort to substance abuse to "deal with the pain."  Jack, on the other hand, has one major advantage - biotic power - but it tends to close more doors than it opens, and the doors it DOES open, she has to open on her own behalf with brute force.  Everything else is a millstone around her neck, and even finding Shepard only lightens that load fractionally.  Yet she doesn't whine.  In many ways, I wish I had her guts (though certainly not her baggage or the life events that saddled her with it).

And to resurrect a topic that was discussed a whole mess of pages ago:

I can certainly understand and get behind the concept that when Jack and/or Shepard go out, it'll be in a blaze of glory, Butch-and-Sundance style.  But having just completed the Serrice Ice Brandy quest for the umpteenth time, I have to wonder if a more peaceful passing wouldn't be completely out of place.  My reason is, to quote Dr. Chakwas (who I forgot to list as one of my favorite non-squaddie NPCs):

"Would it hurt if it was simple like that for once?"

I mean, after all the crap that Jack has been through, doesn't she deserve more (maybe not a whole lot but just more than she tends to get) quiet moments like the pre-Omega 4 romance consummation?  Which brings me to another line from the same (Brandy) quest:

"Shepard, our immovable center.  A place for a person to stop and catch her breath."

Those lines added another reason for why I picked Jack for my MeerShep's LI.  Of pretty much everyone close to Shepard in the game, I think Jack is most in need of someone like that, even if only as a friend.  And as an aside, those lines are among my favorite pieces of dialogue in either ME or ME2.

In a less weighty vein:

"Great post, by the way. I heartily
welcome you, good sir/madam.

I'm a dude, although since it was a one-line oblique reference in the wall of text that was my first post, I can see how folks missed it.  No harm done at all though.  :)

Finally, if I picked a live-action actress to play Jack, I'd go with Keira Knightley.  She can act, has done tough-gal roles (reference The Jacket and Domino), and has the eyes and lips for it.  Just my opinion, of course.

At first, I just wanted to kill Jack. People like her are the people I hate the most in real life (among many other). Anyway, after I talked with her a bit and she became a little friendlier, I saw her funny side and I liked it. A little. My love interest is Tali but nevertheless, I would like to see Jack in ME3. A little more social and little less of a psychopath though.

I can see it, but her American accent is atrocious.  For neither the first nor the last time, I submit Olivia Wilde, blue eyes be damned.  She looks like she'll resort to violence.

I don't see how she is a psychopath, but I'm glad you were able to like her when you initially hated her. You should do a playthrough where you pursue Jack's paragon romance just to experience it. You may be surprised and end up liking her a lot more.

Question for people who've been looking through the character's sound files...

Within the global category are all the in-combat remarks, for instance changing to shotgun has something along the lines of "Switching to shotgun" or "Shotgun ready". However, I've never heard the character actually use these particular lines during a weapon change, it's always "Got it" or whatever.

Additionally, there are also specific comments for each squad member death while combat is going on (I assume), but once again, I've never actually heard these while playing.

Am I alone on this?
