I'm threatened by anyone that's violently psychotic and has a grudge against someone I'm in close contact with on a daily basis.

Jack's not psychotic.  If she was there would have been many more cut scenes of Shepard stepping in to save the crew from her supposed violent outbursts.  Nice try though.

What knocks me out is that that person resurrected a comment from the first page of the thread to troll. They wanted to make sure they did as LITTLE READING AS POSSIBLE to make a fool of themselves.

Finally, if I picked a live-action actress to play Jack, I'd go with Keira Knightley.  She can act, has done tough-gal roles (reference The Jacket and Domino), and has the eyes and lips for it.  Just my opinion, of course.

I can see it, but her American accent is atrocious.  For neither the first nor the last time, I submit Olivia Wilde, blue eyes be damned.  She looks like she'll resort to violence.

Yum. Olivia Wilde - the Once and Future Baroness! I don't know her outside of House and The Ballad of GI Joe but, mmmmm. Yeah. ;)

Keira Knightley has a disabling smile if you ask me... she's got this naughty little grin that looks like someone told her the dirtiest joke imaginable and she's dying to share it. I've never rated her much as an actress, but I think she has one of the prettiest smiles imaginable. The minute she smiles, if a role needs an edge, she loses it entirely. I'll keep tiredly championing Nat Portman (for the pure joy of hearing her eff and blind), but if you were to select anyone for the job, it needs to be an actress who can speak volumes with her eyes; someone who can sell hurt inside while still being hard as diamonds outside. I'm not entirely sure who could sell the role to be completely honest, not off the top of my head anyways.

But Paul Bettany should play Thane... I might actually want to romance him then :D

Heh yeah there are always a couple that like to try and slip in a little snide comment now and again just to try and stir things up. :)

Well, hell, while we're on this tangent, I'm all for off-the-wall casting that doesn't make any sense until after it happens. So Jane Krakowski for Samara and Will Arnett for Thane.

Plus, I'm probably the only man in the world who wants Anthony Mackie as Shepard.

I don't think a Miridian throwing in a single-sentence snipe counts as a troll, per-se. Trolls need to stick at it for a bit and be sent home to their bridges with their tails between their legs. Verbal snipers lack the commitment of a genuine troll, and blatantly fear losing their argument when they're called to support it, so bam, they're in and out faster than a trumpet player in a ska band. My team's better than your team, neener neener. Ring the doorbell and run off. If they can debate well enough, they're not trolls; they're folk with differing opinions. We welcome them here, because they stimulate conversation. People with only a sentence's worth of ammo... not impressive.

Nothing to see here, guys... let's carry on

I'll admit, when I thought of someone to play Jack, Natalie Portman sprang to mind immediately. I just feel a little guilty since the main reason I want to see her in that role is due to the Natalie Raps SNL Digital Short. If she could play that role straight, it might actually work.

Question for people who've been looking through the character's sound files...

Within the global category are all the in-combat remarks, for instance changing to shotgun has something along the lines of "Switching to shotgun" or "Shotgun ready". However, I've never heard the character actually use these particular lines during a weapon change, it's always "Got it" or whatever.

Additionally, there are also specific comments for each squad member death while combat is going on (I assume), but once again, I've never actually heard these while playing.

Am I alone on this?

I can't recall ever hearing her say "switching to shotgun", I almost always have her use the shotgun anyway. But sometimes when she gets downed during combat she'll say, "If I die I'm haunting you Shepard." That always cracks me up Posted Image.

Miranda holds a high position in the organization that tortured Jack her entire childhood. And on top of that Miranda gives her attitude right off the bat, and Miranda won't admit Cerberus did anything wrong concerning the Teltin facility. Can you blame Jack?

I've said it once, I'll say it again - she had me at "Shut the **** up and suck my ****!" ^_^

Oh... and on the subject of 'psychopath' - I've discussed this with a friend of mine who has worked as a psychiatric nurse for almost ten years now, a practicing psychiatrist for three, and according to Bri, Jack is almost certainly a borderline sociopath (he's of the school that psychopathy and sociopathy are distinct from one another), definately suffering from massive PTSD and Recidivism (which is related to psychopathy, but can also be caused by things as innocuous as ADHD, OCD and PTSD). She isn't, in Brian's professional opinion based on a half-hour chat over tea of a fictional character, not a psychopath as she doesn't tick enough behavioral boxes for psychopathy - psychopathic tendencies, there is potential for... but considering one in five people displays psychopathic tendencies in bench tests...

Labelling her as The Convict would have made a lot more sense, basically :kissing:

I can certainly understand and get behind the concept that when Jack and/or Shepard go out, it'll be in a blaze of glory, Butch-and-Sundance style.  But having just completed the Serrice Ice Brandy quest for the umpteenth time, I have to wonder if a more peaceful passing wouldn't be completely out of place.  My reason is, to quote Dr. Chakwas (who I forgot to list as one of my favorite non-squaddie NPCs):

"Would it hurt if it was simple like that for once?"

I mean, after all the crap that Jack has been through, doesn't she deserve more (maybe not a whole lot but just more than she tends to get) quiet moments like the pre-Omega 4 romance consummation?  Which brings me to another line from the same (Brandy) quest:

"Shepard, our immovable center.  A place for a person to stop and catch her breath."

I can't shake the idea of Jack ending up Married With Kids. Irony of her ending up like that aside, the idea of her having to squash the urge to biotic blast a headmaster/teacher while she sits there listening to a lecture about her child being hauledin for kicking the crap out of a bully (Because really, with Shepard and Jack as role models. Especially if it's a Paragon shep,..).

An alternative of that idea is her biotic pinning either a kids parent or the kid themself to a wall when her child's getting bullied, explaining 'politely' why they should make sure their child stops/they stop.

"If I find out Jane is still being bulled by the end of the week your f**king kid is going to have to deal with me!"

Bonus points if her past (Ie, she's the reason several starships 'sank' to say nothing of the crimnal record) slips out during either scenario. ;)

Yeah I agree.  I posted an URL from a NPR article here yesterday I think that briefly explains psychopathy and Jack didn't really fall into the category. From what I understood mind you.  I'm not a doctor.

Well, it's all speculation at this point - I don't think we can come to any sound clinical conclusions regarding Jack until she's taken something like the MMPI at the very least, and ideally followed that up with something like SCID (I say "something like" because I have no idea what their future equivalents would be called). My own suspicion is that if one were to delve deep enough, one would find that Jack is a lot more "normal" than she may outwardly seem.

Have you... seen The Hurt Locker?  Real men don't get no realer than Anthony Mackie.  No sheen, no pretense, nuts and bolts.  He's, well, Shepard.

Anyway coming back to Jack and her potential actress, Natalie Portman's just too willowy and weak to be Jack.  Any scowl or bit of anger is going to feel forced.  Her destroying a giant mech is just going to come off more as funny as anything else.  For someone who has arguably the best entrance in video game history, I want to feel the threat.

Nope, not seen The Hurt Locker. I have seen every episode of Rome though ;) In my book at least, Shep needs a little smooth in him; otherwise he's not so much James Bond in space, he's just Marcus Fennix, only marginally less inbred-looking :D

It's certainly fun to speculate on which actress would do Jack best in a movie, but... if I were seriously considering a movie, I don't think I'd change anything. As in, I'd keep the current voice actress, and stick with something animated (for Jack as well as the rest of the flick). While a few actresses could certainly come close, I don't think any of them could quite top the current combination of animation/voice acting we have in the game - and the style is already cinematic enough that I don't really see any need for a physical substitute.

Edit: On the off chance that anyone from BioWare's looking (and we do know that they spy on us from time to time), the above post was merely idle speculation, and should not be taken as indication that I actually support the notion of making a movie based on the game. I firmly believe that if such a thing were attempted, it would almost certainly end up being laughably terrible. Seriously BioWare, don't do it.

I'd have to say either Olivia Wilde or Natalie Portman. Jack was often compared to Natalie Portman when she was first announced. She's small like Jack too.

I have to agree with you about Natalie Portman, however I'm not sure if she can become wiry enough for the role.  Jack's skinny but not willowy, there is muscle there.

On the Keira Knightly front, as there use to be  some resemblance between her and Natalie Portman in their youth (enough for George Lucas to cast her as the false queen in Phantom Menance, and for Natalie's mom to think that that particular girl was her daughter and not the other one) the fact is that she is just missing something.  She can act bad*ss but i don't think she can pull off that evil smirk/smile Jack has.

And anyway isn't she also a bit too tall?

Who, Keira Knightley or Jack?

Google says 5'7" for the former, whilst Jack isn't very small to be fair, about the male Shepard's height, at least.

-edit. After taking a look at a cutscene to be certain...she's actually, maybe, four inches shorter. So assuming Shepard is around 6'0"...

Although I'm not too fond of Megan Fox myself, I think she has the most striking resemblance..There is some pic with her(with a shaved head) floating on the net. Not that I think anyone can truly capture Jack's greatness.

Adding to the fact that she is a bit too... ahem... "top-heavy," Megan Fox has about as much talent as the Sahara has rain.

No, wait, we know what happens... they release a paid Alternate CSI Costumes DLC ;-)
