I think you need the PC version of DA:O. Which sucks, because I'd SO have a picture of Humphrey Bogart as my avatar.
You could always use the character creator if possible, no need to get the full game. At least, I think that would work too. I think it uploads the same way, so I can't see why it wouldn't.
I might have been doing something wrong, but when I tried to use the character creator instead of the game, every time I hit "upload profile" it saved over my custom avatar. I ended up using the game instead. However, at least one poster in the custom avatar thread has had success with the character creator, so you might want to PM them and ask exactly what they did. Name is Ray Joel Oh iirc.

Haha, we've had discussions about what Jack would be like with kids. Some say she would be a really good parent because having a kid changes a person. I think it's funny to picture her like this --> www.youtube.com/watch

Has it been considered that Jack's tattoos are a way of asserting control over her life (beginning with her body), reaffirming a sense of self, etc.? As someone deprived of any sort of self-determination from the onset of life, while being subjected to all manner of abuse and humiliation, her feelings of worth must have been pretty shot. I mean, even after escaping, there wasn't any light at the end of the tunnel, and it was basically getting "out of the frying pan and into the fire." Just looking in the mirror must have been excruciatingly painful for pre-ink Jack, seeing those surgical (and non-surgical) scars, and having to relive those unpleasant memories. Perhaps covering herself in a new skin, metaphorically and otherwise, was an act of rebuilding? Burying the past under a new veneer, as it were, one of her own making...and reflecting a new person? The person she tells herself she needs to be?
A rather rambling and disjointed paragraph that I'm not too pleased with...going to hit submit anyway!

I think someone has mentioned it before but it's a very valid arguement. All the ink could be a way of gaining control over her own body, since it was used by the scientists in the Teltin facility for their own sick experiments. They even forced her to kill other kids by drugging her and shocking her if she didn't. She had no control over herself during her time in the Teltin facility. I could imagine her feeling a great sense of control after getting her first tattoo that she made the decision to get. And she liked that feeling, so she continued to get more and more. It's her way of saying, "I'll do what I want, you can't control me."

This is a great Post Adriano! It's very possible. I imagine it's also a way to hide. A sort of repellent to keep certain type of people at arm's length. Unfortunately I know people like this in RL that always seem to cringe when they see someone branded with ink. I feel it's shallow and sad but these folks are out there in the world too.

No problem with this paragraph at all - makes perfect sense and one that most folk here seem to concur with

I always thougth of her tattoos as a sort of "ink armor". She's got every inch of skin covered, after a while I forget she's half naked all the time. Besides, tattoos are *on the surface*, you can't see the skin below: just like her bad attitude, you can't see how she's inside.

Yeah, somebody did a mod where they removed her tattoos and scars, and I was like, "Wow she looks naked!" Then it occurred to me that she'd always technically been that way.
I believe I saw a picture a little while back of Jack with that mod active, and I really didn't enjoy it. Not only did it detract from the character since those tattoos are such a part of who she is, but her character-model's skin (underneath the tats) is really shiny. It's almost plastic looking.

Funny you should mention Samara. I was over in the Samara thread a little while ago, checking out some of the screenshots that had been put up, and I was just reflecting on how reflective her skin is. I mean, it literally has a shine to it in certain lighting. And that was just looking at her face, nevermind the "puppies".

I don't think the tattoos were necessarily "removed", I just think they were "painted over" with some a skin color. It looks like Miranda's skin color because Miranda's skin looks kind of... well, plasticy. It looked like Jack's head was put on someone else's body. Her head was tan, but the rest of her body was very pale and plastic looking.

Was meaning to mention something in that vein as well, Ultai. How amusing would it be to see Mordin (or some older character), in a cut-scene, ruffle Jack's hair (the longer CGI style) in a good-natured way while she's brooding somewhere aboard the ship?

I find the Shepard/Jack romance bittersweet. Jack's found someone to truly care for her, but she's emotionally damaged. It would lead to a future of contention for the couple because Jack will always have to be fighting a lifetime of distrust. Shepard's stubborn enough to fight through it, but I don't think it will ever go away completely.
I find it odd that one of the scientists video logs on Pragia refer to Jack as "Jack." The facility seems like the sort of place that would consistently refer to all the children as "Subject Zero, Subject One, Subject Two..." The way she emphatically corrects Aresh that her name is Jack makes me think it's a name she came up with herself, something she owned and not Cerberus. And because I like my explanation so much, I'm going to go with the Jack reference in the video logs being an oversight. I reject Bioware's reality and subsitute my own!
Also, I wonder how well the Illusive Man was able to track Subject Zero after she escaped. Even if she wasn't the Biotic God he was trying to create, she was still an asset.
Also, I wonder if modders can remove the visor for Jack's new outfit.
And last, I love how Jack says "that was mean" in an almost chiding way to Shepard after he tells Niftu Cal to charge. Quickly followed by her amusement, though. Indicates there is a very thin line to how much of a **** Jack is willing to be.

Do you have a link?
Anyway, I think a lot of the tattoos were medical/prison related, maybe more than she admits. From the dialogue it's clear she gets asked about them a lot, and I think she wants to pretend she has more control over her life than she really has had. I agree though she hides behind them in a way.
Also, I think she might use them to scare people off. She's frightened of getting close with people, (they just need a shorter knife) and she doesn't want to appear childish, despite her age.
