I wonder why they didn't replace Femshep with Jack.  Hearing Maleshep's voice out her body is a little disconcerting. Cool as hell tho making her the Spectre.

Hahahahaha! Skip through it to about 3:50, when the Tank-grown Krogan is "sniffing" Jack. She's got this look on her face like, "Why the hell are you smelling my boobs?"

I'm pretty sure it was for comedic purposes. It's pretty impressive on BioWare's part on how they implemented character movements so that any other humanoid character can take the place of another, and all the animations remain smooth. Generally when a mod replaces your a playable character with an NPC, there are frequent animation glitches. But not in Mass Effect.

So, after investigating this mod business, I'm a bit turned off. It seems to involve a bunch of convoluted steps (downloading and using outside programs like "Ruby" and "Notepad++", whatever those are..."editing coalesced.ini file, launch CoalescedrealCRC.rb script to get fix_Coalesced.ini file", blah blah).

Is there a simpler, more elegant solution available?

It does mean that Bobby could get his Miranda/Jack action with a little tweaking, and while I would love some screenies of that trainwreck to make some sleazy Motivationals from, the amount of work you need to put in... no thanks. I'll leave it to the real computer geeks as opposed to part-timers like me.

Besides, your imagination's always dirtier...

Also, I wonder if modders can remove the visor for Jack's new outfit.

BiancoAngelo7 over at the ME2 Texture Modders group has said that he's working on it.  The relevant discussion is here:

Not much there yet, but keep your fingers crossed.  It may well appear before Kasumi's DLC does.  :P

Assuming they tell you which sections of Coalesced.ini to edit, the simpler solution is to use the Mass Effect  Coalesced Editor at this link:

http://social.biowar...m/project/1854/

This removes the need to install Ruby and use Notepad++.  I haven't used it much myself (I basically just swapped Jack's heavy pistol for an AR and added some casualwear for my Shepards) but it's fairly straightforward, imo.  There's no rebuilding the file or having to run scripts to fix it - it's all pretty much self-contained.

So it's like an all-purpose utility for modding, then? I'm mainly interested in swapping around Shepard's character model and/or clothing.

For modding the Coalesced.ini file anyway.  There's a built-in function that lets you add the majority of NPC outfits to the armor locker, which might help with your clothing needs.  As for the character-model-swap, you'd have to go back to that thread you found and follow the instructions there - you won't have to go through all the other gymnastics though.  You just need to know which parts of Coalesced to edit; the editor streamlines the process considerably.  As always, make sure to back up your original Coalesced.ini.  The editor has a backup/restore function but it never hurts to be safe.

I read some comments on youtube videos of Jack's paragon romance scene, and a lot of people are either really dense or they just don't fully understand the situation. Because a lot of people make comments about having sex with clothes on. Considering the situation and the conversations leading up to it, I think it's clear that they just made out. Plus I've seen a few comments of people saying they don't like the tears in Jack's eyes during the scene. Either they are incredibly insensitive or they don't understand the emotion of the moment. And it's not like she's bawling while they're making out. She's just a little teary eye'd. So basically, all those people are just uninformed or idiotic Posted Image.

Not too relevant, but...

While you can't talk to Kasumi, she at least acknowledges Shepard's relationship with whomever.

"You're a brave man to spend so much time with Jack...If it were up to me, I wouldn't go near that part of the ship. I guess there's somebody out there for everybody." Not an exact quote, but loosely paraphrased.

That's interesting. Maybe that's a hint and whats to come? Maybe BioWare has acknowledged that people would like their romantic relationship to be acknowledged by other squadmates. I remembering seeing a poll about romances in general, and the most voted for option was for their romance to be acknowledged by other squadmates.

It's youtube. What do you expect? A few more weeks and a troll with ignite the spark and cause some sort of off-topic political/religious flame war to erupt from the bowels of hell and descend upon the unsuspecting comment board. :P

I really want to get the Kasumi DLC, but sadly I lack Microsoft points to buy it. And the fact that she acknowledges Shep's relationships makes me want it even more. Something tells me that Bioware is listening to us fans after all.

Some folk just do not understand emotions, plain and simple. And other folk are just, well, simple. They expect certain things from the much-vaunted "final reel love scene" and when it's not just about knowing where to put it, they get all confused. And I guess tears can be confusing things to read sometimes, even when you know the score (not wanting to sound sexist or make too big a generalisation, but guys in particular can get weirded out by girls crying - sometimes we just feel emotionally overloaded and we cry... it's not always something you've done and it's not something you can fix... I've been on the end of a few "What's wrong?" conversations like that that have gone down like the proverbial lead zepellin thanks to a bit of eye leakage).

I think some folk also take it that since the FRLS involved sex in the first game, so must this one. While Miranda's certainly does, and Tali's more than likely does, I think Jack's works deliberately as an ambiguous moment; you could argue they do, or you could argue that the emotional connection between them is more important than just going at it hammer and tongs on the engine room floor. Considering all the **** she's been through, sex might not be on the cards for Shep and Jack for a while; she regarded Murtock as having used her for it (until she found out after the fact he hadn't used her for that at all, biotics I guess is another matter), Shep (if you play him right) never hides his emotional interest in her. Because of that... I personally wouldn't be shocked if sex became a stumbling block for a little while.

Rape survivors sometimes use deflective reasoning over it; sex = no more than sex, but when love gets into the equation it becomes something very big and scary all over again because emotions get re-attached to something the victim has deliberately removed the emotion from. This is just the three years I spent working as a councilor speaking here, but I say that Jack & Shep have the most 'real' relationship in the game a lot - it's only because I've seen it before. Things probably wouldn't be easy for them, but because of all the emotional investment in the relationship, if it went the distance (which sometimes they don't because of all the problems involved)... not a dry eye in the house, I promise you.

It really is the biggest romance (in the traditional sense of the word) in the game thus far. Granted, we only have limited materials to go on in the game, but hell, I'll throw down the gauntlet to anyone to convince me otherwise. I'm not saying there's no love elsewhere in the game, but Jack's romance is certainly the most moving, the most engaging, and has the potential to be the most wonderful (or tragic - I don't want to tempt fate, but you all know how honest I get) thing in the entire series.

So (patronising head back on), next time someone goes on about Jack being a skanky lunatic who they can't wait to get offed in the Suicide Mission... their loss. They probably get more enjoyment out of shooting the monsters over the interactions of characters. And who'd want to actually romance someone like that? :D

Yeah I need to think of it that way. I get irritated by people who rip on Jack like that, especially when the Jack insults are followed up by "Miranda is so much better." Not just because they're ripping on a character I like, but because I have come to associate Jack haters as simple minded and unintelligent, who take the simple choice of Miranda. And those type of people frustrate me. The type of people who watch Jersey Shore over The Universe.

I've seen posts by people who dislike Jack, but can appreciate her character. I'm fine with that. What irritates me are people who say, "Zomg Jack is a tattoo'd bald emo psychopath!" First of all, Jack doesn't even remotely fit the definition of a psychopath. Hannibal Lecter is a psychopath.  And people need to quit throwing around the word emo. Do people even know what emo means anymore? AFI is emo, not Jack, and not Thane, and not anyone else in Mass Effect 1 or 2. And people talk about her looks and swearing like they've never played an M rated game before. Like what are you? A freaking minister? And she isn't bald, she has a shaved head, there's a difference!

Phew... I needed a good venting Posted Image.

I often wonder how difficult being in a relationship with Jack would be for Shepard.  I don't mean difficult, as in "Oh, woe is me, our relationship isn't carefree, and she doesn't give it up easily, she isn't inexplicably perfect."  I mean difficult as in Shepard would have to be constantly and carefully picking his words so as to not set her off, so as to not strike a nerve.  It would definitely be worth it for Shepard and Jack if they were to be able to get their relationship to work, but it's daunting to think about how dedicated they would have to be to one another to make things function on even a basic level.

All the more reason to enjoy being able to romance her in the first place.  :)

Hear Hear Jackal.  I've read so many ridiculous posts about Jack it's....well ridiculous.  From how bad she is in combat to "She's two-dimensional".  The two-dimensional comment almost knocked me off my horse.  Hell she's the best written character in the game (at least in my opinion).  I don't think any of the characters in the game (Tali included) were badly written and although I may not use them or even care for them I can't deny the work that went into them.

Jack-haters think they know about a Scorched Earth response....****-em!!

Irony.  The squadmate with the hood over the eyes is the only one who can see what's going on between Shepard and his/her LI.

Good to see you back Bobby :) Hopefully Kasumi's little acknowledgement is a sign of things to come in ME3 with the dialogue. I was teetering on foregoing a romance this playthrough but it wouldn't feel right if I didn't sweet talk Jack.
