It's sad.  With all of the arcades dying, the traditional meaning of the word is starting to come back.

When I played the arcade games, they were the only good games graphics wise.  Everything else then like the Atari, Intellivision etc were pretty weak compared to them.  Nowadays a pc game is just as good or better than the ones at the arcade.  Shoot, I haven't even walked by and seen arcade in years.

My boy went through a phase of wanting to try pinball, and that was about the closest I've been since... 1995 I guess. Nowadays kids won't go near arcades because what they have at home pisses on arcade games froma great height. Like you say, back in the day it was the graphics that made them stand out so much, now, they're not even suburban... they're throwbacks.

Ahh lol, PINBALL, that game has been around a long time.  My dad was playing pinball back in the 50's. :o I played it a little myself, but it never really caught on with me.  Your right, with pc's and consoles the way they are nowadays, there is no reason anymore to go to the arcade.

 Ah, gaming nostalgia...

Arcades were definitely great fun, but I think I miss my old Sega Mega Drive the most. I played some of my favourite games of all time on that, like Earthworm Jim, Eternal Champions and Vectorman. Good times were definitely had.

So...is Jack's "Come on Jacob, you p*ssy!!" the best unused line from the sound files on disc?

Should be somewhere in the combat area. She has lines for each possible team member death.

that explains it, I never use Jacob if I can help it.  Most Kasumi and Jack at the moment.  Though I'm getting quite fond of Mordin as well.

I guess she only has combat specific lines for Miranda and Jacob. Go figure.

Nah, they recorded some for each member.

"Your quarian is down."

"Your geth is scrap metal."

...and so forth.

-edit. Oh, and one that made me chuckle, "I guess he got assassinated!" (Thane)

Heh. I've only ever heard squadmates tell me when they're out, not others. Do the other squadmates recipricate if Jack falls in combat?

Adriano said the best unused line, so the lines aren't actually used in the game, which is a shame if they actually finished recording them all anyway.

I'm sure each party member has similar audio, I just haven't gone about listening to it.

Really makes me wonder why this stuff was recorded but then left to rot on the disc. It would have made combat way more colourful.

-edit. Here's a link of Jack's audio files, courtesy of Tarante11a.

http://www.mediafire.com/?mhdnojlmx2j

-further edit. "Miranda's down! Right where she belongs!" and "You like that, Cerberus b*tch?", hah.

-even further edit. The aforementioned Jacob line is filed under 'en_us_hench_convict_ss_global_hench_convict_00286932_m'.

You know, I was gonna say something... listening to those sounds, I thought, "You know, these 'other character falls' sounds, they really don't sound familiar.  Maybe I'm just not hearing them because I only play on normal, and my squadmates die so rarely that I just don't notice them."  I was afraid I'd out myself as a non-hardcore gamer by admitting that I play on anything other than balls-to-the-wall Insanity all the time, so I didn't say anything.

But yeah, each character has lines for squadmates falling in combat.  Some have specific ones for everyone, while others have more generic ones.  And going with the whole, "Do people know that Morinth is Morinth, or are they fooled?" question, several have lines like, "Morinth is down!"  Jack has specific ones for a few (I like the one for Mordin: "Should have stayed in his lab!").

Another weird one I noticed: each squadmate also has lines as if Shepard was pushing them out of the way, like "I'll move" or "Pardon me."  Never noticed those in game, either.

Yeah, there's a plethora of unused stuff, such a shame. Everything from different variations of similar lines (different intonations, inflections, whatever) to comical stuff to little things that would have fleshed out the atmosphere.

She only seems to have a generic one for Samara, "Samara is out!"

-edit. Or what BobbyTheI said! It's located between Morinth and Samara, so, yeah.

Remember that line, "Now who's the badass biotic, ****?" from the first trailer?  Pretty sure that's in response to Samara/Morinth falling, since it's right next to "Samara is down!" and "Morinth is down!" in the sound files.

Yeah there's even dialogue for a femShep & Jack romance. I'm not homophobic but I'm glad they cut it for the same reasons as Mondo has said. It would have been too stereotypical and I think fewer people would take her seriously.

As far as I know, none of the "reacting to other squadmate dying" quotes are even in the game.  I thought I was the only one who never heard them, but it sounds like nobody else has, either.

There are even sound files where squadmates react to Shepard dying, for some reason.  Seems kinda pointless.

Another little oddity I noticed: from what I can gather, Freedom's Progress was originally going to be the major tutorial level, from the sound of things.  There's a lot of unused sound files from there, with Jacob and Miranda saying things like, "Use the heavy weapon to blow down that door!" and something else about storming, I forget what.  Wonder if the devs didn't decide that the player needed more time to get up to speed on things, and made the Cerberus facility and Freedom's Progress into a kind of dual tutorial thing.

They may have, I read somewhere that they were originally going to make Tali recruitable at Freedom's Progress.  There is no telling how many times they changed the order of it all.  They may have not had the first turotial in the game originally and then later decided to add it in and remove the aspects of it from Freedom's Progress.

Let me ask you this. Someone started a thread about a month ago about the original plan for the beginning of ME2. The OP provided a link to another forum that discussed it. There was no evidence provided from Bioware directly that I recall. One of the members on the other forum I think, stated that he heard it from a Bioware employee.  It basically said that the player would start off on the planet that Shep's body was found on. The player would be playing as Legion and that Liara was also on the planet.

Have you heard any audio that would indicate any of this to be true?

Makes you wonder if entire sections of Morinth dialogue was taken out so Morinth would seem like Samara

I assume that was an idea scrapped early in production.  Believe me, if there were goodies that big hidden in the sound files, you'd be hearing it, and not just from me. :)  I was way behind on finding the Liara/Shadow Broker comments, for one thing, and honestly, that's probably the biggest OMG audio hidden in there.  The rest is just akin to the deleted scenes on a DVD: sorta interesting, but its inclusion in the game probably wouldn't have made a big difference one way or the other.

Although, somebody mentioned earlier about Tali being recruitable on Freedom's Progress: close.  There's a line from TIM that say something like, "I've added Tali to the list of the recruits, as it's clear she can be trusted."  So, I would guess that her recruitment mission could have been potentially unlocked immediately after Freedom's Progress.  Also, in addition to TIM's generic "I've sent you a list of dossiers", there are several lines which go like, "I've sent you # dossiers of potential recruits," with the number ranging from 3 to either 6 or 7, I forget which.  So obviously, they were still unsure about the structure of recruitment all the way up to VA recording, and just had Martin read off all the counts just to cover their bases.
