I'm surprised that Jack even cares about makeup.  She seems keen on making herself as androgynous as possible.  It just seems a little inconsistent.  Maybe it's something we're just not supposed to think about, like Liara's eyebrows.

One thing's for sure - She wouldn't care about what people think either way.

Not just that, she basiclly says "hey, I bet you want to ask about my tattoos" in that conversation.

But I have to agree with Epantiras. The hands are a bit too big. And her right breast seems slightly bigger than the other. But it's still an amazing picture, great job .

I'd agree with this. And boobs do quite often have a little variation in size between one and the other

...Gentlemen. (Mentlegen, if you prefer.) This is my first real foray into the Bioware forums proper, and it's kind of a scary place, so be gentle or the husk in my avatar will cry bitter, synthetic tears.



In response to a challenge to carry out the most bizarre pairing that I could think of, I started work on a fanfiction called Rock Steady a few months ago; it pairs Jack with (brace yourselves) Thane. I'm right up to the chapter that involves the Omega 4 relay at the moment, and I find myself at a bit of a conundrum that I was wondering if you guys could help me with: my tiny fanbase is mostly comprised of Thane admirers (ie: girls), and in response to 'so, uh, should there be a sex scene like in the normal game' they've mostly said yes. However, this thing is really supposed to be Jack-centric (she's my favorite squadmate by leaps and bounds), and I thought it'd be better to get the opinions of the people who know the character best.



I ask because, and I'm aware this is fanfiction heresy, I really don't feel that screwing down in the cargo hold is really a stage that they've reached, at the rate of development they've gone through, nor that it would be what either of the characters would really feel they needed. Despite what feedback I've gotten so far has suggested, it seems to me like it'd be...cheap, I don't know. Too physical. I was mostly entertaining the idea of substituting a discussion about the inevitable problems in the future (I mean, he's dying and we know from canon she doesn't take loss well), but...oy. I am at an impasse.



also I think I'd be too embarrassed to write smut, oh god don't hurt me



So, if anybody wouldn't mind offering an opinion on that, I would be hugely appreciative. I'd really prefer some input from the Jack side of the equation, for once (really, I need all the help I can get :| but one step at a time).

Hey, nice fic, by the way. I haven't read it recently, I should correct that.

I think you'll find your Thane fangirls can get the sort of romance with a Jack/Thane pairing as we saw in a Female-Shepard/Thane pairing. All you need to do is look at the Jack/Shepard paragon romance ending to see that Jack does have a romantic streak held deep within her fragile emotional core.

Jack is someone who has never been able to trust her soul to someone, so when a person proves their genuine interest in who she is as a person, her response is just as genuine. She wants to care, it scares her that she wants to care, and that moment before going through the Omega-4 Mass Relay when she realizes she has the opportunity and it might be too late given the suicidal nature of the mission... she does what Jack does best and jumps in with everything she's got. That doesn't necessarily mean being hardcore, just that if she's going to say something, she'll go all the way. Even if it ruins her mascara.

That's part of my interpretation at least.

On the other hand, Jack's also suffering from brain deterioration from all the heavy experimentation Cerberus did on her. While she's a rare case where it actually increases biotic power, there's no telling what will happen to her in the long term. She could lose all control of herself, forget who she is, cease functioning as a normal human being. She won't know what will happen in the future, never actively looks forward to it, the present is all she's got for someone who thinks death is an on/off switch.



Sure she doesn't always deal well with loss, but she makes it a point never to forget a thing as the sheer amount of tattoos will suggest. While Jack is a convict who's paid her dues many times over in prison, she has no friends or family to mourn her when she dies. Having someone who will remember her as something other than a violent criminal made for mass destruction might give her solace in the fact she's still that little girl from Pragia who always wanted to be normal.



Intimacy with Jack as we know doesn't always have to end with sex. On some playthroughs she's settled for a good kiss and sleeping in a lover's arms. If she feels close enough to someone, she'll trust them enough to let them take initiative.



Might I suggest a good backrub session? Eases tension, improves circulation, and provides a sense of physical intimacy without the intercourse [unless you really want to get into it]. I think it's pretty demonstrative of the kind of relationship you've set up between Jack and Thane in your story. If you really want to tease your fan[girls] - suggest the promise of a private celebration after the big suicide mission if both make it out alive.

Nice of you to drop by - I read your fic up to part 10 a couple of days ago, and your use of language and tone is pretty damn sweet, as is some of the little bits of character colour.  I'm no expert on writing, but I did like your crafting (even though I couldn't really see Jack and Thane - that's just me, you make it work on the page, and the page is God, not some shmuck reading it ). It's all in all a damn good bit of fic.

As for this moment... I think if you hang about here a while, read back a couple of hundred pages, a lot of us don't take Jack's Omega 4 scene as sex. It comes close, but a lot of us here think that it's just two people sharing some physical closeness, but it's the emotional closeness that's the vital part to a lot of us. We all, despite our different takes on the character, tend to agree that the scene is less about a struggle for mental and physical superiority (like Shep and Miri) or final romantic physicality moving beyond the boundaries of a suit (like Shep and Tali), it's about Jack allowing herself to be emotional, to be vulnerable, with someone else; about risking her heart, and risking theirs. This is a lot more romantic than an engineroom floor fumble... it's about love. That real thing we talk about. That evil bastard spawn of emotion that makes us laugh and cry and want to strangle our other-halves sometimes. Jack's letting herself feel again, and to be uncouth about it, dicks generally feel nowhere near as good as what she's getting.

I'd say go that way. Or go with the wild frogboy mambo - page is God
