It's sad to think that Jack might eventually degrade to a state where she truly just loses her mind and can't control herself, or her powers, anymore... and the utter devastation she might cause to herself and others because she just doesn't control over her own body anymore.

Maybe it's one of those auto-translators. Or an earphone to stay in contact with radio communications.
Which raises the question, why doesn't everyone have these? ^^
Maybe it's just an ear decoration. Like an earring... except it's not a ring. It is gold after all. I think it's some kind of fancy comm unit that looks like an ear decoration.

Does anyone have any youtube links, or something similar, to videos/information about Jacks neural degradation? It would seem that she's in a similar boat to Thane, the tragic love interest that may not have long to live due to a serious medical issue. Which, admittedly, makes me sad for her. Especially since, if I remember correctly, Mordin states that her biotic powers are getting stronger as the degradation progresses.

I'm pretty sure all biotics suffer from this. At least human biotics. So I think it's more of a long term issue.

I looked up the exact upgrade text for another thread, and basically it just says that all biotics suffer neural degradation that causes their biotic abilities to become less powerful as they get older. Jack is suffering the same degradation, and yet her powers are getting MORE powerful instead.
It could either be read as just technobabble to justify the upgrade, or BioWare might be planting hints about something like you said, a tragic romance. Since we only have the flavor text for the upgrade to go by, I'm not sure one way or the other.

Hah, that's exactly what happened with me too. Started out with Tali, decided to check out Jack and Miranda just for the heck of it, got blown away by Jack's romance and especially that last cutscene and now I have two endgame saves - one with Tali, one with Jack.

I'm glad it wasn't just me... ok, maternal instinct and all that made me want to wrap the poor girl up in cotton wool and try and make everything all right, but I have to say that the romance is actually a good, moving thing. Like I said waaaay back in this thread, out of all the romances in ME2, Jack's the only one that needs love. I've gone through the motions with Tali and Miranda with other Sheps (and I admit, Tali is kinda sweet), but neither of those affairs had the gravitas our messed up little girl in the sub-basement had. Every good romance needs tears, I say.
If Jack had had a similar (though nonsexual) moment of acceptance with a Femme-Shep it would have been perfect... "You know Shepard, you're all right, y'know? No matter how hard I ****ing push, you don't leave. I might have taken that for you trying to **** with me, but you're not like that... it's been a long time since anyone's not wanted something else, y'know? Well, guess I'm here for the duration now. You asked for it, you *****. You got it. Let's go show those ****ers what we're made of." Something like that, and I would have been forced to love someone other than Wrex

You know how each romance option has a standard pre-Omega 4 bit where they tell you that you've basically won them over, but they need time to think? That's from Jack's; the last sentence if I remember correctly.

Waaaait ALL human biotics will suffer neural degration? Shepard? Kaidan? Miranda? Jack? Especially since they're the stronger ones
Yes I assume. Although the severity might differ from person to person. I doubt it will be an issue in ME3. It would be pretty lame to kill off a character by turning them into a vegetable with a strong case of alzheimers...

And there is a point... I mean, she not exactly what you'd call a conventional romance for your average intergalactic action hero...

Jack's vital signs show progressive neural degeneration, which would normally decrease her potential ability to generate mass effect fields. Instead, her ability appears to be increasing. Replacing the power module in her bio-amp with a higher-capacity prototype module would dramatically increase the strength of Jack's biotics.
So, I'm not sure where I got the idea that ALL biotics have this happen (I guess the part about "neural degeneration normally decreases biotic abilities" made me think it was a normal thing that happened to all biotics). But anyway, it's hard to judge one way or another if this is meant to be a hint or just "Hey, put this new battery in and everything will be hunky-dory."

Hmm... I have to ask, is this the first big pro-Jack thread? Because the other threads endorsing particular characters are absolutely dwarfing this one (and some are even in their second or third iterations).
Don't know if it's the first, but it's the biggest, and the one currently listed in the sticky as the "official" one. Jack is, you might say, a bit of an acquired taste. But I wouldn't have her any other way.
Oh, and on the subject of music, another great "zero" related song.

(No, it really isn't.)
Really, though, this is something I've said before: Jack fans aren't the type to go, "Oh, hey, check out this sweet new picture of Jack I made! It's got a bunch of hearts on it and Jack looks sooooo cute!" We don't go writing a hundred different fanfics with any number of permutations of how Jack and Shepard fell in lovey-dovey with each other. And we're not the type to post pointless blather posts about nothing in particular. (No offense to the Tali thread, but... I swear half the time I go on that thread, the current page is all replies to a previous post, or people going, "Okay, I'm going to sleep now, bye!" but maybe that's just because of the hours I keep.)
In short, we just show our appreciation a different way. And our way is a lot less verbose than others.

Truth be told, I like the current set-up. I'd rather be one of the four guys in the back of the record shop talking about Tom Waits than in the overstuffed sorority house talking about Taylor Swift. But that's just how I look at it.

Yay, fellow Tom Waits fanboy! "Bone Machine" ranks as probably one of my favorite albums of all time. Or were you just using him as a metaphor?
But yeah, the one reason I really participate in this thread a lot, is that I really want to see what happens to Jack in ME3, and I'd hate for her having a more selective fanbase to doom her chances. So I post on this thread, and I romance Jack on all my MaleShep playthroughs, just in case those tracking numbers that are supposed to be sent back to BioWare about people's playthroughs include how many times you showed the bad girl some lovin'.
