I just have one question... I really feel as if the developers didn't establish Jack as tough. Did you guys think she was tough? I mean, I can't be sure, but I could have sworn that she had a tough past and nothing to lose

I think that whoever designed Jack did a great job of avoiding the stereotypical depiction of a tough girl by letting you see other sides of her through her loyalty mission, and through her romance (if you were patient). Ultimately she was tough when she needed to be (which admittedly was most of her life) but there was quite a lot more to her.

Aw, no love for "Franks Wild Years," Bobby?

But I get the impression that, with the Mako and side mission concessions that BioWare has made, that the whole fan assortment is under the mistaken belief that this is American Idol, and the one with the least votes is going home. I don't think that at all. BioWare is going to exert authorial control somewhere and Jack is one of the things that BW is going to keep come hell or high water.

But it would be frustrating if Jack didn't come back. Miranda and Tali all have endpoints. Tali can be exiled or not, Miranda will still be Miranda. But with Jack, there's a big "Now What?" She's not done cooking yet, which is why I think she's being kept around.

Let me put it this way: If she's not in the third game, I'll shatter my monocle in shock.

I am here to show support for jack!!

I cannot understand how both Samara and Jack get so little attention (I think even the Zaeed thread surpassed both of ours) in the forums..

I think jack is cool... so what if she's biatchy? i would be too if i'd had a childhood like hers. I think she's a great character and would like to see her in ME 3.

I honestly think her involvement with Cerberus will play out a lot more in ME 3, considering all the info you find during her loyalty mission and how none of it is resolved.

Well... we still got more posts than Jacob! So... that's something to feel good about, right?

(No, it really isn't.)

Really, though, this is something I've said before:  Jack fans aren't the type to go, "Oh, hey, check out this sweet new picture of Jack I made!  It's got a bunch of hearts on it and Jack looks sooooo cute!"  We don't go writing a hundred different fanfics with any number of permutations of how Jack and Shepard fell in lovey-dovey with each other.  And we're not the type to post pointless blather posts about nothing in particular.  (No offense to the Tali thread, but... I swear half the time I go on that thread, the current page is all replies to a previous post, or people going, "Okay, I'm going to sleep now, bye!" but maybe that's just because of the hours I keep.)

In short, we just show our appreciation a different way.  And our way is a lot less verbose than others.

How I feel as well haha, it tends to get way too...oh I dunno... <3:wub:<3:wub:<3:wub:<3:wub:<3:wub:<3 in there? Even for me as a Tali fan.  So I usually go around in the other fan threads most of the time nowadays.

Heh. Perhaps we should form an official Jack/Samara alliance. With our forces combined, together we can bring both of our Ensemble Darkhorses back to fight in ME3!

I think with Samara it's in part a recognition of the fact that she has her own thing going on with her code, and that it actually makes sense for her to go her separate wayc and resume life as a justicar. So as much as one likes, her, one wouldn't want her to start acting completely out of character just to stick around. Or at least that's how I see it.

With Jack on the other hand, there really is no good reason for her to suddenly disappear, and even less so if she's romantically involved with Shepard.

Well, I could see Samara stick around, just because it matches with why she joined up with Shepard in the first place: I seem to remember them saying she's drawn to seemingly hopeless fights or noble causes with low chances of surviving or something like that. And I think seeing that giant army of Reapers out there seems like a pretty hopeless fight for her to help with.

Me, personally, I hope everybody comes back for ME3, and I don't care if the excuses get flimsy.  After fighting like hell to make sure everybody survives, it seems like kind of a gyp if their stories don't end up continuing.

Hear, Hear! I Brake For Bald Chicks and Blue Battle Nuns!
But I don't want to disparage the folks on the Tali threads too much, and in supporting an unpopular character, there's a risk of doing just that. Yeah, some of their antics can be a little, um... Alarming. But I liked the Tali romance, truth be told (and will even go so far as to break ranks a little here and say that Sroka was the best actor in the whole damned game), and their sweaty mania made it all possible. Without them, there'd be a little less good acting and writing in the world.
But Jack's the one I'm taking to endgame. I'd like my choices to matter beyond who lives and who dies.

I wish ME2 had a Dragon Age-style "What now?" conversation that you could have with your companions once you were done with the main mission.

Although the Dragon Age folk did basically end up axing just everyone for the expansion even though a good portion of them indicated that they wanted to keep travelling with you. Needless to say, I'd hope the Mass Effect crew can improve upon that.

Yeah, I've said before, I probably enjoy the Tali romance almost as much as Jack's: I do enjoy the bad girls with a soft side, but there is just something about the nerdy girl with the secret crush and the "Oh, I never thought you'd notice somebody like me" thing going on. I just don't post in that thread because A) anything I post would be gone in less than a minute, anyway, and B) they've got enough support over there already.

Jack, however, needs boosters, and I'm happy to play whatever part I can in doing that.  But yeah, I love pretty much every character, even Jacob.

But not Morinth.  Nef's blood demands vengeance.  The rest can come back, though.

Tali's definitely adorable; her romance really made me feel all warm inside. Now, if only a threesome was on the cards...

I mean, come on, surely people have gotten a bit more open-minded towards the end of the 22nd century!

Shepard tried that in the first game, remember?  Didn't work out for him.  :D

Playing as femshep, I didn't get enough conversations with Jack. And I never had her as squadmate because she's quite useless. Regardless, I think she's a cool character, only I wish I could get more out of her.

I guess it depends on how you're playing it.  In my Soldier runthroughs at the IFF mission, Jack and Tali are mandatory.  Tali to bottleneck the husks on a staircase with her drones and Jack to Shockwave them into oblivion.

I feel the same way about Garrus, playing with a male Shepard. I liked him in the first game, and the reunion was awesome, I had all this anticpation, and yet... I think I had a grand total of one conversation with him after his personal mission before he embarked upon that endless calibration project.

I don't think it's specific to Jack or any one character - it seems like the game was (mostly) just light on dialogue in general.

If Jack doesn't come back in ME3, I'll have a lot of folks to blame, but one of the major ones is Mark Meer. His boring monotone line readings making everybody play FemShep, and having them miss out on Jack's character development. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!

He did additional voices, I think he did someone on the Citadel...the ramen restaurant guy?  If so he didn't sound too monotone there, I'd blame the VO director if that were the case...but all in all I'm fine with how he performs as male shep.

I dunno for English version, but in French version, Jack voice is actually great.

Anyway I support that everyone tries to get romance (not just sex on the table) with Jack so that they realize what is really hidden in Jack

Go Jack for ME3!!!!

i certainly hope you're right. someone from BioWare mentioned that they are tracking the most used squadmates. at this point i feel like the biggest contributing factor that may bring her back is the fact that she was a potential love interest.

I love the fact that this thread is picking up steam. As for Jack sticking around, Shep is the only person she trusts, at least in all my playthroughs I see no reason why she would leave that relationship. (Friendship or LI)

Indeed. I read all these threads about the most likely squadmates to return, and the reasoning is behind Jack apparently being on the low end of probability is that "She has no reason to stay."

But... Does she have a reason to leave?

I play as a Soldier the majority of the time (simply because I like doing 80% of the work and perfer squadmates to pick up the slack... too much time playing FPS's against kids hopped up on energy drinks and crack, obviously), and after picking Jack up I barely put her down. Shockwave kept the gribblies off my back while I was lining up shots, plus she is easily voted in the ME2 Yearbook as 'Most Likely to Say Something Funny In A Firefight' much like Grunt. In fact, those two are a damn nasty combo; Grunt rides ammo up front, Jack does the ragdoll thing, and Shep hangs back going for the headshots.

The biggest issue I had with Jack in combat though is she seems allergic to cover... she's worse for charging at mobs than your average Krogan, and as Grunt points out "Jack is... small." Pass the medigel. The amount of times she nearly caught a sniper round in the back of the head because her skull was suddenly in my sights or she threw a perfectly good shot in the face twenty feet in the air...

I've always taken her on the final showdown with baby-Ahrnold, as Shockwave renders the incoming Collectors null and void, leaving Shep all the time in the world to go for the eyes. Thinking about it, I used Jack and Grunt so much, I don't think I bothered using some characters outside of loyalty missions... I think I've used Thane twice in five plays through, though that's only because I'm a better sniper ;)

I agree with you and I always find those threads silly since you can think of a good reason for everyone  to leave and also a good reason for everyone to stay.

Grunt- He is a member of the Urdnot clan so he would like to join them or He considers Shep his battlemaster and has a ton of respect for his fighting.
Thane-He dies/ to ill to stay or Thane after being alone for so many years now has a good friend
Legion-Goes to join the other Geth or he sees staying with Shep the best choice to fight a enemy for both of them.

Also the same could be done for the rest of the crew so no crew member has more of a chance of leaving then another. I honestly do not think anyone will go personally since the whole point of ME2 was build up your army. It would not make any sense to build up the army to just have them all leave. Also I doubt they will have Shep killed again so they are not all going to move on like in ME1-ME2.

I agree 100% and very well said.  I honestly think there are more Jack fans then it seems but there is 3 very different written characters so they will attract different people I guess.

All the female LIs attract three archetypes among players pertaining to how they want to play as Shepard. Barring a better name, I call it the Solo/Kirk/Reynolds Postulate.

Some people want their Shepard to be Han Solo, which means they fall into slightly roguish territory and demanding an Ice Queen to thaw in the presence of one's perceived magnificence. Miranda fits the Leia bill perfectly.

Then again. there are a ton of Captain Kirks out there too. If you want to be Kirk, you want to be ten kinds of awesome and have green chicks fawning all over you, which is a service that Tali is happy to provide.

But the third and most rare is the Mal Reynolds (from Firefly, for the uninitiated), in which case damaged people cling to you like barnacles on the side of a fishing boat. If that's the case, and you want your Shepard to be a flawed but essentially good hero, then Jack's your girl. But I don't need to tell anyone that there are ton more people who want to be Captain Kirk or Han Solo than dear old Mal. Hence our predicament.

Of course, if you want to take my bullcrap little theory to its raggedy conclusion, then one must posit that Mal had a thing for River... Which I firmly believe is the case. ADMIT IT!
