Playing as femshep, I didn't get enough conversations with Jack. And I never had her as squadmate because she's quite useless. Regardless, I think she's a cool character, only I wish I could get more out of her.
I guess it depends on how you're playing it. In my Soldier runthroughs at the IFF mission, Jack and Tali are mandatory. Tali to bottleneck the husks on a staircase with her drones and Jack to Shockwave them into oblivion.
I play as a Soldier the majority of the time (simply because I like doing 80% of the work and perfer squadmates to pick up the slack... too much time playing FPS's against kids hopped up on energy drinks and crack, obviously), and after picking Jack up I barely put her down. Shockwave kept the gribblies off my back while I was lining up shots, plus she is easily voted in the ME2 Yearbook as 'Most Likely to Say Something Funny In A Firefight' much like Grunt. In fact, those two are a damn nasty combo; Grunt rides ammo up front, Jack does the ragdoll thing, and Shep hangs back going for the headshots.
The biggest issue I had with Jack in combat though is she seems allergic to cover... she's worse for charging at mobs than your average Krogan, and as Grunt points out
"Jack is... small." Pass the medigel. The amount of times she nearly caught a sniper round in the back of the head because her skull was suddenly in my sights or she threw a perfectly good shot in the face twenty feet in the air...
I've always taken her on the final showdown with baby-Ahrnold, as Shockwave renders the incoming Collectors null and void, leaving Shep all the time in the world to go for the eyes. Thinking about it, I used Jack and Grunt so much, I don't think I bothered using some characters outside of loyalty missions... I think I've used Thane twice in five plays through, though that's only because I'm a better sniper
