Really, though, this is something I've said before:  Jack fans aren't the type to go, "Oh, hey, check out this sweet new picture of Jack I made!  It's got a bunch of hearts on it and Jack looks sooooo cute!"  We don't go writing a hundred different fanfics with any number of permutations of how Jack and Shepard fell in lovey-dovey with each other.  And we're not the type to post pointless blather posts about nothing in particular.  (No offense to the Tali thread, but... I swear half the time I go on that thread, the current page is all replies to a previous post, or people going, "Okay, I'm going to sleep now, bye!" but maybe that's just because of the hours I keep.)

In short, we just show our appreciation a different way.  And our way is a lot less verbose than others.

You just hit the nail on the head. This is the main reason why the Tali thread is so huge. They treat it like a chat room or an alternative to twitter. And they do that fanfic crap and other creepy stuff. The Tali fan thread has quanitity but the Jack fan thread has quality. The posts in this thread are actually relevant to the topic.

Anyway I support that everyone tries to get romance (not just sex on the table) with Jack so that they realize what is really hidden in Jack

Go Jack for ME3!!!!

Agreed. People are too judgemental and don't even give her a chance. If they just try talking to her often they'll see just how much depth she has, and that she's more than some tough chick.

Well then I guess supporting Jack is a great way to maintain my indie cred. Though I'm not sure how well this bodes for her chances of returning in the final game.

Surely Bioware knew Jack wouldn't be widely popular with her looks and demeanor. Especially when facing competition with "the perfect woman" and a mysterious alien babe with fan base from the prequel. It would be a total artistic cop-out for them to only go with the characters that have the most avid, dove-eyed fan base. Jack brings something very different to the table and is a clear break with the tired stereotypes we're usually saddled with. She's also well written and her paragon romance is legend --- wait for it --- -ary! ^_^

All the female LIs attract three archetypes among players pertaining to how they want to play as Shepard. Barring a better name, I call it the Solo/Kirk/Reynolds Postulate.

Some people want their Shepard to be Han Solo, which means they fall into slightly roguish territory and demanding an Ice Queen to thaw in the presence of one's perceived magnificence. Miranda fits the Leia bill perfectly.

Then again. there are a ton of Captain Kirks out there too. If you want to be Kirk, you want to be ten kinds of awesome and have green chicks fawning all over you, which is a service that Tali is happy to provide.

But the third and most rare is the Mal Reynolds (from Firefly, for the uninitiated), in which case damaged people cling to you like barnacles on the side of a fishing boat. If that's the case, and you want your Shepard to be a flawed but essentially good hero, then Jack's your girl. But I don't need to tell anyone that there are ton more people who want to be Captain Kirk or Han Solo than dear old Mal. Hence our predicament.

Of course, if you want to take my bullcrap little theory to its raggedy conclusion, then one must posit that Mal had a thing for River... Which I firmly believe is the case. ADMIT IT!

you had me til that last bit. MalxRiver wat

For reasons I explained in another thread, I think Jack's a likely potential squadmate for ME3 (if she survived your playthrough) by reason of the character itself: she's got no one else to go to, no home or friend outside of the Normandy, no extraordinary scientific or engineering skill that could be used elsewhere, no extensive network of contacts... And would Shepard really want her loose, by herself, on some unsuspecting station??? Nahhhh...

She's a (superb) fighter by nature, so her only possible contribution to the fight against the Reapers is as a squadmate. Jack's a keeper from a role-playing perspective. And she's one of the few that Grunt actually likes...

Jack is okay,...but Kelly was the best looking, most open minded, most helpful of all the female crew in the game for sure.

Jack is a very intriguing character who should be back, unless she becomes a victim of numbers. If BW has plans for Ashley, Liara, and Tali, etc....Jack, or some others, may be left out or only have a cameo role in ME3. I hope that is not the case, because as far as I'm am concerned, her story has so much more potential; her actually trying to integrate with the rest of the crew for instance, coming to terms with the possiblity of being rejected or hurt again as she opens up to people. The list is really endless.........in short, Bring Jack Back!

I am a Tali fan, but I am also a Jack fan as well.................I should probably alter my signature to reflect that Image IPB

EDIT:....changed sig:D

This is my thought exactly. You can even say to Jack "You don't make it easy to like you." So I think BioWare knew Jack may be less popular than others. And I don't think they would introduce a likely unpopular squadmate, just to kill them off due to unpopularity.

On a different subject...

If you take Jack with you to the bathrooms in the Dark Star Lounge on the Citadel, she'll tell you about one time on the Purgatory where she was attacked by 7 guys in the latrines. And she's says she killed two of them but eventually they "got her." I'm not sure what she means by that exactly but I think everyone's first thought is rape, which is pretty ****ed up and kinda pisses me off. Because it's one thing to physical abuse a girl, and it's a whole 'nother thing to rape them. I'm just wondering what everyone else thought she meant. She says that later she killed them all so at least she got back at them.

That is one thing that always catches in my throat. I can only ever read that little anecdote as rape... male dominance assertions are always pathetic, weak things like rape. How else do you put the scary woman in her place? Drag her down as far as you damn well can, and with guys with that kind of mentality, well... and in a prison too? It's not clear, granted, but to me at least it's difficult to read it any other way. She more or less spells it out talking about the ship that picked her up after her escape from the lab.

Folk might take issues with the character's sketchy memory of the truth of what happened in Telton, but everything that happened to her after that is no less horrible, and no less likely to make someone into the 'crazy whining ****' some folk like to peg Jack as. I'd guess most of them are male...

I heard that Jack had some kind of brain problem mentioned in ME2.

I'd check, but my video card is bust.

Any of you guys know if that's true or not? I'd hate for her to get a lame role in ME3 because of that.

I believe it was mentioned that Jack had some ongoing neural degeneration. I hope that's not an out for her to be excluded from ME3.

I've known someone very reminiscient of her, it was a foregone conclusion that she would be my LI.

And that semi grin when she said "you f*cker".

I've heard that before...

Her memory wasn't screwed up. She just didn't know what was really going on during her time on Pragia. I've always felt bad for her for what she went through. But what she says in that bathroom brings it to another level. And it made me go from sympathetic towards what she went through, to pissed off. Like I'm not just sad for what she went through. I'm pissed off at the things that caused her to go through what she went through. I know it's just a game but even the thought of rape just makes me really mad.

It would be nice if Average Gatsby edited the first post and put some of the sigs, link to the Jack group, a pic or two also. It does not have to as much as the Garrus or Tali support threasds  but a little something.

I can't believe I missed this conversation! O_O By the Maker, is there no ending to her suffering???
Well, on a technical side, it makes me proud to have a "I support Jack" banner in my signature. And Bioware guys are brave, talking about   hinting at rape and all.

Jack rules. Used her as the barrier holder for the suicide run... didn't nearly faint like Samra did, and looked kickass blowing back the rest of the Collectors

Think I'll use her from now on

That's not the only mention of rape in her backstory, either. I seem to remember that in her story of her escape from the facility, the crew of the ship that picked her up "used her," or she said something to that effect. And when you consider the fact that she said she escaped when she was still young... yeah, she's had it rough.

Well I think there's a small difference between being raped and being used. Like they would get her away from Pragia if she had sex with them; that's being used. But jumping her in a bathroom like what she mentions in the Dark Star Lounge, that's rape. Neither case is good. It's just that the scenario she talks about in the latrines on the Purgatory is especially disturbing.

Just happened to run into that conversation again on my latest playthrough, luckily enough. Her exact words were "They used me, then sold me." So, yeah, not a lot of ambiguity there as to what a scared young girl would be "sold" for. Escaped from one hell, only to find herself in another. Almost relieves you a little that Jack isn't as chatty as the other squad mates; doubt there's many happy stories in her past.

I didn't like Jack when I first met her. Probably in part to her calling me a puss, lol. Or something along those lines. I can't recall exact words. Then to my utter surprise, I found her growing on me throughout the game. By the end there really wasn’t any other choice in who should hold the biotic barrier. And Jack being Jack, naturally kicked ass. I hope she returns in ME3, along with all the rest.

Well her biotics would obviously be useful. But it was probably a mix of her biotics and sex.
